sharieskenas··on Show HN: I built an app to switch Gmail notification modes instantly
Owl VIP Email Alerts is an iOS and Android app I built to make Gmail notifications easy to control from one screen. You can instantly switch between VIP-only, All Emails, and Off, allow notifications from only selected senders or domains, set Gmail-only quiet hours, and assign custom sounds to important senders.

I built it because Gmail notification control is possible through settings, filters, labels, or focus modes, but I wanted something faster and more direct.

sharieskenas··on Show HN: Catch That Pizza Maze Game (maze with a randomly teleporting target)
This is my first mobile game, created using Unity with C#. A pizza randomly teleports itself around a maze and you have to catch (eat) it before racing to exit the maze. There's four game levels with increasing maze complexities and extra pizza to catch at each level. I implemented an algorithm to generate a new random maze every time. This game is free on Apple app store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/catch-that-pizza-maze-game/id6... and Google Play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sundaelect...
sharieskenas··on Ask HN: Please share your experience teaching your kids to program
I recently released this C programming book that is good for kids called A Day in Code: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LG7DW4C

It's a picture book that tells a story with C programs that represent real-life situations. It teaches C programming with the code examples that make up the story. It has full-page illustrations like a normal picture book!

I'm writing a Python version now: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/914595512/a-day-in-code...

I hope these are fun ways for kids to get started in programming. :)

sharieskenas··on Show HN: A picture book written in C code
I’m writing a unique beginner coding book- it’s a picture book written in the C programming language!

The code consists of simple C programs that represent situations in the story. The illustrations next to the code show the situations. The code is also explained below each program.

The purpose is to help beginners learn core programming concepts and C syntax through a fun illustrated story represented in code. I want to replace the Hello World program and other boring example programs with fun code examples (involving pizza).

I’d appreciate any feedback…thank you!

Thanks smt88!
sharieskenas··on SoundBrake 2.0 device makes headphone users less oblivious
Thanks slang800...to add to smt88's good points, phone apps that are supposed to perform a similar function don't work well and reduce the audio quality- as you can see from the reviews on this phone app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/awareness-the-headphone-app/... This is due to hardware/app limitations. Another advantage of being a separate device is you have the freedom to place it where you want with an extension, so you won't have the microphone buried in your pocket for instance. Also, it adjusts the alert level to your surroundings after a button press. A phone app wouldn't be as convenient because you would have to unlock your phone and go to the app for adjustment. Lastly it has 50+ hours of life on a charge (rechargeable) and can be used with any audio player and headphones.
