shaolinspirit··on Why Decentralization Matters (2018)
nah, I don't buy this. Education matters. Let the folks educate on how to spin up their own website on a VPS. Let folks educate how to subscribe via rss or websub and get notifications. Let folks educate how to add "donate me" button on their website.

Instead, people are educated on how to use useless NFT's and how to burn their time trading air on binance. Web3.0 is the definition of vanity.

All of the tools required for freedom are there. You just need to have the honesty and willingness to use them. Instead everybody waits for some web3.0 magic, which will make everybody rich.

shaolinspirit··on Ask HN: What are the best-designed things you've ever used?
I would be more from a dev perspective here

*nix OS's and their terminal with various commands. The idea of pipe operator in terminal is just mind blowing, high praise to the guys who came up with this, they literally included FP concepts inside a terminal back in the late 60's.

shaolinspirit··on Pessimists Archive
this is hilarious. I'm wondering if blockchain will be there :D
shaolinspirit··on Show HN: Randomly create beautiful website layouts
this is crazy good, I love it
shaolinspirit··on iOS and Android config-driven experiments without new releases
it is quite funny that the more you will follow this thought process to make everything more customizable, the more browser-like environment you will recreate. eg, rendering custom layout based on a file (html), styling from a file (css) and so on.

shaolinspirit··on Ask HN: Is back end dev generally easier than front end?
definitely, frameworks are great for a lot of use cases. I was as well touching a little bit mobile dev, which is still in some sense hard. You need in each app write a little "browser engine" with websockets, rest api with http cache, image caching and a lot of other things that the classical browser environment gives web developers for free.
shaolinspirit··on Ask HN: Is back end dev generally easier than front end?
I've tried native mobile dev, web frontend and backend dev. The nuance of frontend dev is that you need to pack a lot of things into one process, so it requires more sophisticated coding skills. reactive patterns or stream based approach is a good-to-go knowledge to have. backend is easier to code, however the nuance is to split and scale it once you getting more traffic, proper configurations, dependency management, deployment etc. based on my subjective perspective obviously, there are far more things to consider. in general, do what you love ^_^
shaolinspirit··on Ask HN: I've realized I'm a bad software engineer and I'm over 30, what's next?
you can write perfect code who nobody will use or crap code with millions of users. focus on delivering maximum value over some ideologies or dogmas. purity is overrated focus on value means as well to find the perfect balance between good architecture, timing, maintenance and value for users. good luck and don't get the judge inside your head beat you up.
shaolinspirit··on Reasoning about Taxes
this reasoning begins with the argument that we need government, let's play devils advocate here. anarchy by definition is absence of government, eg is not equal chaos. order is coming from within = no chaos, personal responsibility. national defense - what is nation and what is there to defend? question of global consensus and global dialog.

I see a possibility with the help of technology to open new ways how to represent global consensus instead of giving power to one centralized authority which is not transparent, not flexible and highly prone to corruption.

a slave has a relationship with slave master and both are benefiting from this contract - one has no responsibility and burden of choice the other has the power and control.

I'm sure people will solve this problem in the future and will thrive until there will be some brave individuals who do not tolerate abuse and have a sense of self worth.

speculation - solution lies somewhere in the domain of culture.

shaolinspirit··on Why blockchain is not yet working (2018)
oh wow, are you straight from Disneyland?
shaolinspirit··on New MacBook Pro models to feature magsafe, no touch bar and more ports: analyst
recently my battery died and I need to sit with the magsafe all the time... the performance dropped even more, processor throttling is on max :)
shaolinspirit··on New MacBook Pro models to feature magsafe, no touch bar and more ports: analyst
lol, I was thinking I'm the only one sitting with my 2015 macpro ^_^ love this laptop, however it got super slow and the battery life is almost zero, which is fine after almost 4 years of serving.
shaolinspirit··on State-backed manipulation rampant on social media
i would disagree with #1, we are products of our curation and observation of information that is coming in forms of feelings or outer causes. you can be in a bad environment but still curate where do you put your attention by explicitly acknowledging what subjective values do you carry during your lifetime.

as above, curation is the main skill of the future, you can use youtube to watch stupid cat videos or to watch self development content, it is up to the viewer. if you are willing to read lies, you deserve to be deceived.

with the current abundance of information and possibilities it is a blasphemy to argue that people are manipulated, they are rather choosing this by being lazy or not curious enough or because it already confirms their biases / beliefs.

it is sad to see that people replicated the TV (Tell-Me-Vision) model on the internet.

wow, this was my favourite black mirror episode!
shaolinspirit··on To the moon: defining and detecting cryptocurrency pump-and-dumps (2018)
being rational is overrated, modernism is boring
shaolinspirit··on Ask HN: Predictions for 2021?
Technology is a tool, with a hammer you can smash people's heads or build houses. You never know what ideas can emerge, what creative energy can be formed in the context of blockchain. What comes to my mind is to find a more sustainable and ethical business model than advertisement.
shaolinspirit··on Ask HN: Predictions for 2021?
Yes, this is true that every asset will go to the moon, especially the stock market. I hope that the mainstream cultural perception of bitcoin and blockchain will change from being purely speculative and related to dark markets to actually being used with a good intent.
shaolinspirit··on Ask HN: Predictions for 2021?
* Baizuo gestapo

* The DJ mix fades slowly from Covid to climatechange

* Bill Gates does geoengineering

* Trillions of dollars printed -> effect -> bitcoin to the moon

* People will say that internet in 2020 had freedom

* Migration of taxpayers to other countries

shaolinspirit··on Fired App Reviewer Sues Apple
I like apple devices, I always hated to develop for them. The burden of review on app store is just too much. I would rather prefer to do a web app and to be free, to make quick releases instead of chatting with apple reviewers for weeks when you need to publish some critical release. I don't need apple customers, neither they payment system. Web is king.
