shabier··on Tell HN: I probably spend more on piracy than if I just paid for content
> wasting your life watching all of those “must have shows” makes it sound like your brain has been co-opted by the content producers.

>Maybe put down the remote and pick up a book?

Isn't that the same thing?

shabier··on Show HN: I Made a Magic Trick
I'm so disappointed, you win.
shabier··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
I suggest you too read into Jobs' history before making that claim, lol.
shabier··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
> Because it was cheap and he wants to support journalism.

Sure, WaPa does fantastic journalism- it's obvious that they must be supported for their lengthy history of great pieces.

shabier··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
It almost sounds like you're implying that most of the conversation is happening on Twitter, that it is the town hall.

Good. Time to break it up and enforce fair rules.

shabier··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
> he has fired a lot of his own employees for what they said or posted online, no need to test him more.

Twitter is not Tesla or SpaceX neither are they considered the same (at all). To expect him to treat everything the same across the board is a disingenuou unrealistic expectation.

shabier··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
Calls of violence, deformation and whatnot are already illegal and partially enforced towards one side of the ideological spectrum.

Although groups like qanon tend to sway naive users to extremism, it would be unfair to silence different thoughts just because it "may" lead to that.

Fight bad ideas with better ones.

shabier··on Web3: A VC-funded gig economy of securities fraud
Spot on. It was easy to criticize the internet back then and the criticisms made sense. The tech has matured a lot since then and we're more online than ever.

Every community will always have bad actors, it's unfair to judge the entire community because of them

shabier··on Web3: A VC-funded gig economy of securities fraud
Because it has 0 exposure in the oversaturated market.
shabier··on Finland and Sweden set to join NATO as soon as summer
For the same reason western countries, especially the usa, have been involved in "regional conflicts".
shabier··on WeekToDo – Free Minimalist Weekly Planner App
You're spot on.

I've caught myself writing text in my editor and then copying it into Notion. Makes me wonder why I'm still using Notion if its latency _that_ bad.

shabier··on WeekToDo – Free Minimalist Weekly Planner App
I'm currently using a notebook, but I find it very limiting in the amount of information you can write down. It becomes rather difficult to maintain structure or add text later on. Pen and paper works best for quick, abstract notes in my experience.
shabier··on WeekToDo – Free Minimalist Weekly Planner App
I agree with you and same here; I've moved my entire workflow to the browser. From Figma to my entire dev environment, it's all in the browser and Google handles everything else from accounts to preferences.

While that enables me to do most of my work on a low-performance tablet, it introduces a bigger (chrome) issue; latency. I've noticed that most input websites (Notion, Google Docs, etc.) have an input latency whereas native apps don't.

shabier··on Old.reddit.com Down?
> It just have some images with flags and whatnot.

That's basically it, users can color a tile every 15 minutes or so. The reddit Twitter page posts some of the cool stuff if you're into that

shabier··on Old.reddit.com Down?
The new site doesn't work either. I'm assuming that it's due to the traffic to r/places
shabier··on Chrome 100
I'm with you.

The early builds, after they just released the canary, were so refreshing. From the UI to the UX, it just right. It's a shame they have integrated so much bloatware.

The PDF reader, however, is my favorite feature. It has the right UI and tools that other browsers are missing.

shabier··on Vanced Discontinuation
Good call, I didn't think of that. I believe that the non-root approach for LuckyPatcher is to create a separate, (limited) modified APK file rather than modifying an existing, installed app
shabier··on Vanced Discontinuation
Agreed. I think a smarter approach would've been to release the patches and other changes separately, and had the official YT app be patched locally. This, however, could probably not work on non-root devices.
shabier··on Vanced Discontinuation
> Isn't vanced just a patched version of the official app?

I believe that it is. Although they don't have the source code, just the binary which they have modified in order to add features, see smali[0]. Other projects like the Google camera mod are using similar approaches to modify or port official apps

shabier··on Vanced Discontinuation
The comment tread is arguing that it's hard to prove modified binary rather than the easier way; reuse of the trademark. Either way, both the modification and redistribution are illegal.
shabier··on Vanced Discontinuation
That's a good approach, I like it a lot. Do know a project that has already applied that flow?
shabier··on Lasers could cut lifespan of nuclear waste from a million years to 30 minutes
I suppose that parent comment is trying to say that given our history with nuclear waste, especially with the increasing caution, it hasn't caused any (significant) incident by the waste
shabier··on Twitter Client for UEFI
My only question is; why? Don't get me wrong, it is cool, but do people actually use it?
shabier··on Earn-IT threatens encryption and therefore user freedom
Spot on. Criminals will not be affected by these new laws. Perhaps this one is just a precursor of another law
shabier··on Pockit: A tiny, powerful, modular computer [video]
This is really incredible. I can't wait to get my hands on the device and tinker around with it. It is giving me the same vibe as project Ara[0], and I'm here for it.

shabier··on Ask HN: Any weird tips for weight loss?
That's insightful and inspiring. What did/do you eat on the fasting days? And on the regular days?
shabier··on Russian news channel RT to broadcast on Rumble after Big Tech curbs
You cannot simply give me one criterion, one that's conveniently specific to RT, to validate the statement in parent.

Both sides are, generally speaking, enforcing a narrative and rejecting objectivity in favor of the narrative ergo it's propaganda

shabier··on Russian news channel RT to broadcast on Rumble after Big Tech curbs
> And he didn't call for violence but for response from international community

> I would very much like international community to get involved and vaporize putin and entire russian army with entire government and elites.

You're a living contradiction, man.

shabier··on Russian news channel RT to broadcast on Rumble after Big Tech curbs
I'm genuinely shocked that all of this goes straight over your head. I suppose that your desperate need for yes-men and sympathy lead you to pulling false equivalence out of thin air. Perhaps that also confirms the name-calling, it must be frustrating to you.
shabier··on Russian news channel RT to broadcast on Rumble after Big Tech curbs
I suppose everything is weird to a North Korea sympathizer. See, two can play this childish name-calling, accusation game.
