shabda··on GitLab Serverless
You are coming up with your ow definition of serverless. For most people serverless means

1. Per invocation billing 2. No need to provision resources ahead of time

Taking AWS's example

1. EC2 is not serverless but Lambda is 2. RDS is not serverless but Aurora Serverless is.

China has done remarkably well in last 6 years, lifting half a billion people out of crippling poverty.

If their political system is as incompetent as you describe, I wonder how they manage to do so well.

shabda··on Who Is Telling the Truth About Prescription Opioid Deaths?
I am from India. I have two close family members who are fighting metastatic cancer.

Their pain is not manageable with lower pain killers. I am thankful we have opoids to prescribe, which is making significant improvement to their quality of life.

shabda··on Who Is Telling the Truth About Prescription Opioid Deaths?
> Opioids may be a good choice for some people with long term pain (I personaly don't think they are)

What do you suggest be given to people with chronic pain which can't be managed with lower powered pain killers, say people with cancer induced pain?

shabda··on Modi’s Cash Crackdown Failed, Indian Bank Data Shows
There was dirty money created by demonetizion. We have not yet accounted for

1. Cash in Bhutan and Nepal where indian currency was widely used. 2. NRIs who legally held INRs but the cost of exchange was too high 3. Residents who have loose cash lying around - under mattresses, long forgotten jeans and missed the deadline for exchange.

shabda··on Tweetable Python – Tweetable Python 3.7 Documentation
I think the Python approach is better :).

> head -c 8 /dev/random | base64 Gives me PRM9hlMDpG0=

Which is 12 chars, not a big deal, but with Python I specified exactly how long the password should be.

With Python, I just used the first example as the anchor and then built more examples. (For example enforce it to be pronounceable by using every second char as vowel, or build a `horse battery staple generator` style password.)

> convert CSV to sqlite, several other examples

I am the author. I posted it on reddit to get some early feedback. I was hoping to post to HN as show HN after finishing everything.

> In less than a 100 chars, you can generate truly random passwords.

I could have used the secrets module. However, IMO, using random to generate passwords is fine. Your password needs to be sufficiently random, not cryptographically secure.

> 5. There's a HUGE grey market for phones in India.

I don't think this it true anymore. Brand name Android flagships are available for $150-$200. On the lower end, Jio along with data plan for one year costs $50. There is no price point for Grey market anymore.

shabda··on Spain leads the world in organ donation. What’s stopping other countries?
Plus with organ transplant you hardly "sit in a semi-vegetable state ". I am a transplant recipient, and have a near normal life.
shabda··on Spain leads the world in organ donation. What’s stopping other countries?
High five! I received my transplant at age of 24, nine years ago. I hope many, many years of life to you.

I hope anyone reading this thread considers signing up to be an organ donor. There is very few free lunches, but organ transplant is one of them.

Also, this line from the parent post requires a response:

> I don't think we have such a shortage of people that we have to save every and each one no matter the cost.

Organ donations are huge net positives for society. In a world with no organ transplants, the renal failure patients would be spending an average of 5 years longer on dialysis, which ties up hospitals, patients and caregivers mush longer than a transplant operation plus+ immunosuppressive treatments do.

shabda··on Spain leads the world in organ donation. What’s stopping other countries?
Are you seriously suggesting anyone who has renal failure shouldn't have children? What next - siblings of renal failure should be sterilized because they might be at Y% higher chance of X unknown disease?

Your choice if you don't want to sign up for organ donation, and I respect your choice. Everyone should make their choices about their bodies. However, your choices are coming from horrible misinformation.

shabda··on Spain leads the world in organ donation. What’s stopping other countries?
I am a kidney transplant recipient. I received my transplant 9 years ago.

My immunosuppressive treatments is a walk in the park compared to the 6 months I was on dialysis. I got married and had a kid after my transplant, none of which I even considered while I was on dialysis.

Which is to say, you are horribly misinformed. :). I hope you will read more about organ donation before making the decision to not opt in.

1. Multi language support: We have Python 2 and Python 3 to start, but we are planning to add R and Julia 2. We support on premise installs

Here are a few storyboards we have built which show what is possible:

shabda··on Hawaiians call Mark Zuckerberg 'the face of neocolonialism' over land lawsuits
Land owned in the commons, by community, or with a large group of people is hardly a new concept. It seems a broken legal concept because it has become uncommon now, but it was a very common way to hold land just a few centuries ago:

Please see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_land https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enclosure

This whole situation also reminds me a bit of the Vogons destroying earth:

"There’s no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now. ... What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light years away, you know. I’m sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that’s your own lookout. Energize the demolition beams."
