sh4rks··on Can the knees go over the toes? (2016)
I think it's more that you now rely on a piece of equipment to do your workout. Say you're on holiday, you can't just hop into a random gym and get your leg workout done. You'd have to bring your squat shoes with you.
sh4rks··on A complete MIDI-based framework for automatic backing tracks generation
Is there any reason to use the hardware over the software?
sh4rks··on The effects of sleep debt
Can you switch to remote working? No commute saved me a lot of time and energy.

Try shopping and meal prepping on the weekends.

Try to go to bed at the same time every day. Eventually it becomes a habit.

sh4rks··on The effects of sleep debt
The problem with me is that technically I can find time for everything I want to do. But as soon as I start to get into a strict routine, things start to feel monotonous and I eventually go back to my old ways.
sh4rks··on I should have loved biology
Also to anyone reading this - don't feel compelled to drop out of anything to study something you find interesting. You can very easily find good resources online and do a bit of study everyday.
sh4rks··on Absurd Trolley Problems
Life experience that would make me want to want to die if I was in this scenario? I sincerely hope I don't experience anything like that.

But I'm glad that innocent-minded people like you exist. Here's a question, if you had the choice between killing me or yourself, who would you choose?

sh4rks··on Absurd Trolley Problems
Values don't mean anything if you're dead. Five complete strangers? Knowing how terrible people are, they would probably save themselves too if they could. Every man for himself.
sh4rks··on A carnivorous plant that traps prey underground
That sounds like good old natural selection to me
sh4rks··on Scunthorpe Sans, A font that censors bad language automatically
He's talking about the other end
sh4rks··on YouTube removes criticism of dangerous fractal wood burning, but leaves up tips
Exactly. I can't sympathise with any of the people who mess around with stuff like this. Surely if you had even the littlest bit of common sense, you would know not to mess around with high voltages without training.

To the people saying "mass report all fractal burning videos" - why not also take down videos on surfing, outdoor rock-climbing, and other dangerous sports?

sh4rks··on Driverless robotaxi fleet paralyzed for hours in San Francisco
Now that you mention it, robbing a self driving car would be easy. Just stand in front of it and it'll stop for you.
sh4rks··on Tell HN: I DDoSed myself using CloudFront and Lambda Edge and got a $4.5k bill
I mean, for all we know it could have been him mining the bitcoins, with committing the private key by accident being the cover up story.
sh4rks··on Life is not short
> You should organize each day as if it were your last

I never understood this. If you live every day as your last, surely you would only engage in short term pleasures instead of pursuing longer term hobbies/goals?

sh4rks··on Shark evolution: a 450M year timeline
You can also get ublock for Firefox Android, which also seems to solve the issue
sh4rks··on A common trap for people entering programming jobs
What are those specific skills? The links you gave don't seem to say anything about that
sh4rks··on Next-generation AI models
We owe a lot to the smart people working there
sh4rks··on Facebook says Apple is too powerful – they're right
Prime bait
sh4rks··on The brain has a ‘low-power mode’ that blunts our senses
> No, you don't lose much muscle (I lost 0.1%)

How did you measure this number? Unless you were on some kind of drug, this seems impossible.

sh4rks··on Cold Showers
Hype: using dynamically typed languages increases development time
sh4rks··on We're moving to a four-day work week at Beacon
Four 10-hour workdays, as opposed to five 8 hour days.
sh4rks··on Tim Hortons app violated laws in collection of ‘vast amounts’ of location data
You're confusing free with free
sh4rks··on Making a falling sand simulator
Nice. I used to play powder game a lot as a kid, and Noita is currently one of my favourite games ever.

Would love to see this made into a series. Maybe implement different elements or optimisations to existing mechanics.

sh4rks··on Britain to start approval process for Rolls-Royce mini nuclear reactor
I feel stupid for thinking these would be used to power car engines.
sh4rks··on My lizard brain is no match for infinite scroll
I would love to do this, but years of mindlessly browsing social media has seriously shortened my attention span. I used to read books all the time. I remember staying up late as a kid just to read the new Harry Potter book.

Nowadays I pick up a book, read a few pages, then immediately lose interest and go do something else. Anybody know how to get back into reading?

sh4rks··on I replied to a sponsored content email
> If you scroll back up and look at the agreement Paul and I made in January, there was no mention of me not being able to label the content as “sponsored”.

But they did mention it..

sh4rks··on Mathematically correct breakfast: How to slice a bagel into two linked halves (2009)
Stopped reading when I saw he drew on a perfectly good bagel with a sharpie. People have no respect for food nowadays.
sh4rks··on Why won’t anyone teach me math?
Are they really morons if they're working their dream jobs? I don't understand why people think that an undergrad class is the only way to learn about something. There are far better resources nowadays on the Internet where you can learn something from scratch at your own pace, without the stress of deadlines and grades. That's the unfortunate truth.
sh4rks··on Poll: Is the leetcode grind necessary to land a high paying remote job?
Sure, in a real world scenario you would Google the most efficient/elegant way to get the max item in an array. However in an interview situation, the interviewer is usually expecting a language agnostic approach, i.e. using loops.
