sgallant··on My Emotions as a CEO
I’m currently in that 1,2, 3 trifecta and it’s very challenging most days. It’s been a tough year: co-founder quit along with a few others and investors loosing patience, but I’m trying to keep everything together.

I haven’t given up because I believe in what we’re doing (most days) and I want to see if I’m capable of turning this thing around.

I appreciate this comment a lot. Thank you.

Can’t wait to try this out.

It’s interesting to see people building improved UX workflows on top of AWS.

Forestry.io | Senior/Staff Back-end Software Engineer | REMOTE

Hello HN, CEO/founder here.

We build a Headless content management system and we’re giving the power of Git to content editors. They get a visual WYSIWYG UI (like Wix) but under the hood it’s all open source code in your repo.

Our new product, Tina.io, will expose a GraphQL API for content stored in files (JSON, Markdown) in your Git repo and this role would be responsible for building and architecting much of this system.

We have a collaborative, passionate team with a strong engineering culture.

We’re looking for someone with deep experience architecting serverless and NoSQL systems on AWS infrastructure, 8+ years of programming experience, and proficiency with either Go or Node.js.

sgallant··on Canada: Hundreds of unmarked graves found at residential school
Yes. Death (and rape) camps for children.

[1] This is a very good interview with Murray Sinclair, the former chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission where he states:

"The parents were often not notified that their children have died and little effort was made to get the bodies home"

The government stopped documenting child deaths in 1920 at these "schools" because the death rates were so high. They documented 3,200 child deaths by 1920 but experts estimate the number increased up to 25,000 by the time last residential school closed in 1996.

Could you imagine what it would be like to have the police take your child away to an institution then to never hear from them again?

I'm so sad for the children and parents who had to endure this.

Hello HN, we're happy to share that our headless CMS, Tina Cloud, is now in public alpha.

Initially, we're targeting next.js sites that store content in Markdown/JSON in GitHub.

If you're looking for a starter site to test out Tina Cloud, fork this repo and follow the readme: https://github.com/tinacms/tina-cloud-starter

Would love to hear any feedback.

sgallant··on TinaCMS: A toolkit for building visual editing into your site
Co-founder (and long-time HN lurker) here.

We think that editing content for JAMstack sites can be WAY better without compromising code quality, extensibility, etc.

Most CMSs feel like a GUI on a database. We’re bringing an intuitive, contextual editing experience. Think a CMS meets Wix but developer-friendly.

How we're different:

1. Git-first. The filesystem can be a database for your content.

2. Visual editing. Your marketing team wants to see what they’re editingl.

3. Open-source and agnostic. Extend Tina with plugins. Point Tina to any API to read/write content (filesystem, GitHub API, or any 3rd party API).

Co-founder here. As jpohalloran noted, we're working toward fully decoupling Tina from your production site.

sgallant··on Show HN: A Markdown Notepad App
I had the same problem but started using https://bear.app/ because the search is so good. I add new notes multiple times per day (mostly meeting notes) and don't worry about organization since the search is so great. I love it and even pay a few bucks per month for it. It's kinda like my digital brain.
sgallant··on Creating Markdown Drafts with TinaCMS + Gatsby
A lot of people ask about creating new Markdown files and giving them "draft" status in TinaCMS. This article does a good job explaining how to achieve that.

Co-creator here. We just launched some starters if you want to kick the tires. https://forestry.io/starters/

The UI for these starters doesn't show off advanced stuff, but click on "Front Matter" and add complex fields/groups/blocks to get a feel for the UI.
