sfe22··on Air Force, FBI raid homes in probe of Area 51 website
Sounds like another wish to me. Good to have wishes but the world unfortunately doesn’t run on wishes
sfe22··on Air Force, FBI raid homes in probe of Area 51 website
Slight correction there, you are not “paying with your tax money” thus expecting something from it. Paying to buy something assumes you willingly committed to the deal and had the option to back out. You did not have such an option so you may not expect or demand something in return for it.
sfe22··on What to do if a nuclear disaster is imminent [pdf]
Not most of the dead though, one certainly wouldn’t envy the guy that died an hour ago after days of radiation poisoning or starvation.
sfe22··on Speed traps have no long-term effect on speeding: study
Well said. I would add they do the same once they jump out of the car, especially when placing speed traps that cause artificial traffic interruptions and possibly accidents. And when they unnecessarily pull over and harass drivers on the highway for driving normal speeds, posing great danger to others.
sfe22··on Louisiana man tells joke online, gets arrested by swat
Good wish. However why would the government give up this power?
sfe22··on Key staff driving Apple search engine leave to rejoin Google
There’s plenty of other search engines eagerly waiting to take googles space on ios, should google decide to block ios users
sfe22··on Survey of workers’ views on salary transparency
Governments and most education institutions are not part of the free market. Their income also does not depend on their efficiency or value they create so its not the same comparison.
sfe22··on French court: refusing to disclose mobile passcode to law enforcement is a crime
I mean you have got a point. Forces serving governments are known to kill innocents in cold blood, and commit plenty of genocides, so yeah…
sfe22··on Sequoia has marked its investment in FTX down to $0
I think they had plenty of FTT, probably just sold their instead.
sfe22··on Switzerland Is Paying Poorer Nations to Cut Emissions on Its Behalf
Read the article. Switzerland is already emitting less than a third per capita than an average American. Probably got stuck with the same percentage reduction to meet some global quotas, and they are increasing efficiency in other countries to meet it. I see this as double win, yet we complain here.
sfe22··on Purchasing Power Parity: Fair pricing for SaaS products
Agreed, the cheaper the service the more efficient economy they got.
sfe22··on Facebook reportedly laying off thousands of employees
But it creates jobs?
sfe22··on Apple asks suppliers to shift AirPods, Beats production to India
A king is replaceable too, whats your point. I did not make this claim.
sfe22··on Apple asks suppliers to shift AirPods, Beats production to India
Democracy means people rule. India has rulers afaik.
sfe22··on Cloudflare is breaking the internet by requiring "JavaScript and cookies“
It can show on any website proxying though cloudflare
sfe22··on The anti-inflation pivot of 2022
Why 8? Doesn’t there need to be a premium for borrowing money? If i can borrow money at zero percent inflation adjusted rate, that is a great deal and still inflationary. I would say 12 percent would be neutral on 10 percent inflation.
sfe22··on A few months ago, a complete stranger gave me $10k (2021)
I’d suggest to go one step further to advanced income. Government guarantees advanced income for everyone, why stop at basic, are you not generous enough?
sfe22··on Cloudflare's abuse policies and approach
The will make sure to nationalize themselves or whatever no worries, just making sure it is still democracy.
sfe22··on My Google Cloud was suspended too
that is very wrong though. Governments or other monopolies don't enforce free markets. People are free by default and act as such, unless someone forces them otherwise (a big government).
sfe22··on Cloudflare's abuse policies and approach
I have been waiting for someone to mention this board stuff. A question for you: If facebook opened up their board for votes by public, imposed mandatory taxes on Americans and had a police to control the population, would we still be living in a democracy?
sfe22··on Cloudflare's abuse policies and approach
That means cloudflare is such a good company for offering cheap and good service, yet somehow we find a way to attack them because their competition is not “as good”. What a shame that this company that is not supporting their competitors?
sfe22··on My Google Cloud was suspended too
Upvoted. Love that you are not suggesting that another (worse?) monopoly (the government) has to come and save us poor devs. We have options and in reality Google is not a monopoly.
sfe22··on Housing is at the root of many of the rich world’s problems (2020)
It is easy to pick an example like this to show the “bad” sides. But what is the alternative? If people had to pay inheritance tax on their family home, how many could not afford such a tax bill and would have to get rid of their family home to please the tax man.

Regarding the cost basis rest that is so people can upgrade their house without having to pay a tax bill. This is just deferring the tax not avoiding it. Without this it would be much harder to get a bigger house once you have kids. Most people would have a harder time moving and removing this would lower our quality of life.

sfe22··on A pizzeria owner made money buying his own $24 pizzas from DoorDash for $16 (2020)
I did not make a claim that it is impossible to start another taxi company, rather they have to provide proof of this too in order for their claim to make sense.
sfe22··on A pizzeria owner made money buying his own $24 pizzas from DoorDash for $16 (2020)
Did they really drive the taxi business to the ground? Do you have any proof of this? And if so, why is it now impossible to start a taxi business again now that Uber decided to triple their prices?
sfe22··on Uber's Still Not Profitable
And what if android charged a penny a year?
sfe22··on TikTok and the Fall of the Social-Media Giants
But that doesn’t mean an equivalent service cannot survive on just a dollar a month.
sfe22··on Wikipedia is currently in an edit war over the definition of recession
Have to disagree. Many things are not that clear cut. Decentralization will never hurt. You can also have your own “Facts are facts” entry xD
sfe22··on S3 isn't getting cheaper
Are you seriously suggesting that S3 is a monopoly with means to block competition. I mean even when discussing cloud in general, what you are suggesting is a joke.
sfe22··on Instagram is shifting to videos – users aren't happy
Drive (and docs/gmail) is also profitable. So is maps and youtube.
