service_bus··on Ask HN: How to retrain tongue/mouth muscles for foreign language pronunciation?
Repetition.

It's really that simple.

(1) Get an understanding of how to make the sounds from native speakers.

(2) Make a list of all the words you know you don't have a good pronunciation of.

(3) Repeat the words to yourself regularly.

That's it.

Some words will come easier than others, and ones you have mastered can be removed from the list.

I find it's best to do them in small blocks. Five at a time, or whatever you can easily hold in memory.

service_bus··on A Vegan Sued Burger King over Its ‘Impossible Whopper’
They are saying the patty is 0% beef ingredients, which is factually correct.

I don't think that they were intending to be misleading, and they never attempted to even say the word vegan or vegetarian.

Even the article starts off with the premise that the intended market are vegans and vegetarians, which is presumptuous.. there's a whole class of people that just want to cut down on their meat consumption (myself included).

This whole thing just seems like more of the holier-than-thou / all-or-nothing approach taken by many of the vegan crowd that end up doing more harm than good for their cause.

This seems like a misunderstanding in advertising that's easily resolved, not a "shut it all down" sort of thing.

service_bus··on Ask HN: Any good alternatives to pen and paper?
A yoga style tablet and Microsoft one note can be leveraged to do roughly the things you are describing.

It also has the advantage that when you add screenshots, those are also OCRed and searchable.

It's not quite as native feeling as grabbing a pen and paper though, so it takes some getting used to.

service_bus··on We ‘may’ have discovered a potential remedy for tinnitus
I remember reading this on reddit as well and all of the comments were saying the same as the article.

It works momentarily, but that's it. Not enough to provide any actual relief and does nothing for the situation long term.

It's more or less a party trick for people who are suffering from this.

service_bus··on Breach affecting 1M was caught only after hacker maxed out target’s storage
This is true, but the way the article is worded it makes it very much sound like the passwords were being stored cleartext.

Most airlines typically try to purchase their fleet all from the same manufacturer if they can.

There's a lot of additional cost that goes into maintenance, pilot training, pilot availability, etc. that has to be accounted for if you're mixing aircraft from different manufacturers.

You can just look up the aircraft owned by an airline and it will give you a pretty good idea what to expect.

You can also go on flight tracker sites and just look at what aircraft are running the route currently, which would also be a good indicator.

service_bus··on Amazon stops charitable donations via Amazon Smile if you turn off notifications
For me it's not so much about how he uses his money, but how he gets it.

Raking in obscene amounts of money by working people to the bone and forcing them to pee in bottles and not be able to take proper breaks is unconscionable in my book, and can't bring myself to support such a morally repugnant business model.

service_bus··on Boston Dynamics puts its robotic quadruped Spot up for sale
They ballpark it in the article.. tens of thousands or roughly the price of a car.
service_bus··on Microsoft Hosts First Windows Subsystem for Linux Conference
I recently lost a weeks worth of work as well (due to a mistake at my vpc provider)

I resented them for causing me to lose my work, but deep down I knew the fault was mine for not having proper backups.

service_bus··on Software Vulnerabilities in the Boeing 787
Unlike the security researcher, I do have access to multiple 787s as I am one of many people responsible for maintaining them.

I'm obviously not going to attempt to exploit the firmware on an aircraft for obvious reasons, but the security researcher's notion that you can "pivot" from the in flight entertainment to anything to do with aircraft operation is pure fantasy.

These systems are entirely separate, including the electricity that controls the systems.

This guy is preying on individuals' lack of knowledge about aircraft mechanics in order to promote himself.
