serious_angel··on Teaching a World Model to Play Pokemon
This is so dear sorrowful...

Art is a conversation between two people, that is a timeless communication between human.

An artwork to realize... to surf within to learn from, to listen to, to realize someone's images, someone's ideas, someone's worries, someone's messages... someone...

Art is someone's work of life, their experience, their... love...

There's human time in art... in a book, article, painting, soundscape, film, video-game... there's alive time of other human who reified their life experience, views, ideas... in an artwork and passed it to the outer world... to be inscribed in the infinitely magnificent history...

This...? This is just, sorry, deadly awful, dreadful, dark, and dear pain in heart... This is also disrespectful towards the Artists, Developers, people who worked on the Universe and this exact artwork...

This is utterly sorrowful...

serious_angel··on The Price of Intelligence Is Falling Rapidly
These ML/LLM/AI are systems where no one will ever be accountable for and guarantee its stability, safety, and its value.

ML/LLM/AI may be useful, but it must always be considered unauthorized, mistrust, experimental, unverified, always probable to fail on each iteration. Its data must always be accountably supervized by an alive human, who realizes responsibility, life, pain, art, effort, love... Always, even at 2999+ years/times. No life/pain/art/love is no sense/trust/confidence/respect/safety.

That is, it may be fun to play with as a toy, as any ML/LLM/AI based system, where no trust exist but only probability, entropy, chance, luck... but nothing serious, time-rewarding, or humane enough to appreciate and love it in the long run.

An actual Developer is someone who prioritizes thinking and solution finding relying on something deterministic and accountable.

All systems based on LLM, ML, or anything that is algorithmically based on feedback system, learning, training, is indeterministic, and hence, always inaccurate, unreliable, and irresponsible systems, by design.

The process of art-working, coding, programming, development, solution finding... that feel of an achievement. This is what I understand, too. There's no achievement in anything AI-driven - it based on luck/moment/probability/chance.

"Oh My God! Please, all Gods, make this AI output the finally correct code! Please!"

Fudge it.

And you also pay for it. You pay and depend on it, on the the luck, for the chance, for the probability someone controls for you over an API or algorithm you don't even know or cannot verify due its "self-training" design, or it being close-sourced.

> ...you're gatekeeping programming... you are not seeing the big picture... you are missing opportunities...

No, sorry, never. I do not agree with that. These "responses" are coming from infants, immature, children, I believe, sorry... from those who could not care less about the development, responsibility, the overall process of the life of us, people, to find solutions, to reach the goals, to treasure achievements, to write our history with actual names of people on papers sign on papers by hand... for what will leave after us, with art, statues, quotes... in the infinite history of the ineffably magnificent world...

Your name should be in the code you write alone or with a team, your commits, solutions. Your work must be acknowledged and kept in the history. You should be always a respectable alive artist, who is responsible for their work. Our history must evolve, be preserved, respected, appreciated, and shine with glory of our achievements with human names in it for the incredibly marvelous future of opportunities, discoveries, love, and purely magnificent marvel.

There's whole space out there, still, and we must add and keep human names in the history cherished.

serious_angel··on The next GitHub is not worth winning
The author mentioned Forgejo, but why don't mention Gitea that is the direct fork of Forgejo without which the former would not even exist?

Why skip such a marvelous project that is still modern and inherits a marvelous amount of human time and work within?

Perhaps like you, I did contribute pull-requests/issues to the Gitea project, and know people who did, too. Why do you mention a fork that changed the license and added possibly just a few if compared to the initial base repository of the Gitea and its Action Runner based on nektos/act they mentioned in their own fork even, too?

Is this how they dim so recent history, but why?

serious_angel··on There's no such thing as a small software team anymore
Thank you. I do not believe the author has any idea what he is talking about, too. It's worth to also mention some basics:

    1. Dependency on some outsourced LLM vendors (no Internet? No API response? Welp, you do you.);
    2. Undefined amount of payments/paid subscriptions at vendors;
    3. Undefined amount of tokens burnt on each prompt/iteration within undisclosed algorithms;
    4. Absolutely no responsibility/copyright for the LLM output;
    5. Privacy concerns on inside/company project source code uploaded;
    6. Incremental eventual atrophy of developer's own skills;
    7. Inhuman attitude for art, development, effort, purpose in general, since the models are built on stolen effort of other, now unknown, people...
serious_angel··on Ubuntu is growing faster on Windows 11 than on Linux PCs – Canonical (nonsense?)
Does the contributor of Canonical mentioned consider the fair difference between the absence of any telemetry on actual Linux desktop people just opt-out initially, and the forced/hidden telemetry on Windows?

How is that even possible to compare these numbers and state anything aloud like this, if we have literally no idea how many genuine Ubuntu setups are there with absolutely no Microsoft involved?

Sorry, but I believe the blog post author's statements regarding "statistics" are not fair, inaccurate, and simply invalid.

The "AI" part is a literal nonsense, bigotry, and just awful, too. The author should rather check the following stance, and reconsider his history and life decisions, I believe:

    > AI drive-by issues, pull requests and security reports are overwhelming maintainers. Rising security expectations (thanks Mythos) require maintainers to do even more work. Open source funding is hard to secure and insufficient.

This is not art. I do not and never will believe "AI" supports the creativity mentioned. More to that, I believe only not artists would say that nonsense. Or, sorry, a dear idiot even, who could not care less about art, human, the future at all.

Do you even realize how ineffably much an artist may imagine, consider, realize, choose while actually creating? It may be weeks, months, years... when artists developers, creates, enchants their unique miraculous creation... making it invaluable... an actual art...

These human experienced choices are immeasurably important where no "AI" should ever exist... The effortful lovely choices, where every single choice polishes an artwork... reifying it into a perfect or an imperfectly perfect miracle...

Thank you. Good point, but I did not mention anything about "auditing" but: "developing", "accountability", "art", and "mind".

There's no "religion" nor "subjectivity" here, and I have no issues with any developer who uses LLM for reviewing and auditing if they have no time or don't know anyone nor participate in Communities who will support a project in the subjects required.

If you still develop with your mind, accoutnability, creativity, and effort towards actually learning, getting valuable experience, and always prioritize a human, art, and effort, you should better know when use an LLM and when not, considering an undefined magnitude of marvelous knowledge, people, and experience you will definitely miss meanwhile, possibly remembering nothing and have no idea what you're doing at all alongside the non-accountable and prone to nonsense algorithm as LLM.

For example, if you do not consider the meat-ground miracles and artworks inside a yet another "free"/sold LLM dataset of now defaced/unknown artists, developers, engineers mentioned, people (like you and me), then if you prompt for a case to audit, require all sources to the evidence/suggestions found, carefully read the output, and manually approach it making notes to learn from and base your future on, it still may be considered an accountable development process.

> Do you think we will become more and more tolerant?

I do not, sorry. This question feels quite odd to see, too, frankly. I became intolerant in ~20 years just "because", and only when I checked at medics for non-related general tests, and out of the blue it showed on the results paper. And And this is when I never had any abnormal meals with it, but just casually and normally as any other one, I believe. It was like a blow to the gut...

This intolerance changes the life much. It makes impossible to have any meals with other people in group or be afraid of trying anything that may have any kind of milk in it, and you may imagine that there's so much of it out there... including many kinds of common bread, cakes, candies, certain cheese, coffee as Latte, Cappuccino etc. The aftereffect depends on the person, and some have diarrhea-type issues, but in the case here, it only the stomach that hurts so much as if someone cuts it inside-out. There are tablets, but... it's always dear scary and it doesn't help much...

Currently, I am ~1.75m and ~63kg in ~40 years old woman, and I see more of this intolerance become normalized in European and Asian countries where some stores sell lactose-free holy milk and some cafes offer a so much appreciated lactoze-free lovely coffee...

serious_angel··on I regret migrating to Codeberg

    > The announcement blog post, however, reads very poorly, and the section titled “The development team of none” is the worst of it. It states:

    > > Using LLMs to work with your code gives you a kick of adrenaline. You can develop at a rapid pace, build things as if you had a large team. Only that you have none. In fact, you are (often) alone, working with a statistical machine that turns energy into code.
---

This naive "rapid pace"...

Those who do in that careless "pace" will invest more time maintaining it, fixing it, supporting it, or well... realizing it, I believe.

Not to mention that they make themselves more and more dependent on some LLM vendor prospering these vendors with each iteration and tokens burned, and training their models on your own ideas, creativity, and your time of life. Yet, not a single person will guarantee a stable outcome, and no one to blame after. Is that "development"? That is dark horrific sorrow.

This "vibe coding" may be quick at starters, if lucky and all Gods and the Fortune got you, yet supporting that and investing your life time after?

No, never. I have my own mind to train. The people I work with have their own minds. The Communities out there have their own minds. We all have our mind to develop, and learn from each other. Otherwise, it’s empty, pointless, and not art you will be proud of as a developer who inscribes moments in the history, and stand your name in it.

serious_angel··on Reviving a 15-year-old netbook with Arch Linux
The Community behind the marvelous project as ArchLinux32, are ineffably awesome... The project provide various options, including i496, i696, and pentium4 architectures with or without PAE requirements. The OS comes with pre-configured systemd, and supports numerous up-to-date repositories out-of-the-box. Some relatively lightweight custom window manager like Awesome or i3wm may also shape the environment if X required.

Apparently, I do still have a few photos in backups of someone's own enchanted marvel of a portal to universes powered by a Celeron D, USB pen-drive of 16 GiB, a single RAM of 1 GiB, we all managed to acquire and built, for such a short time we had!

Preview of the device: https://imgur.com/gallery/h1tWKp3

Since the CPU had no physical address extension (PAE) to electrify a more common OS, and something customary was required for the limited resources, where we chose ArchLinux 32-bit (now ArchLinux32, indeed) and arranged a custom AwesomeWM environment visually suggesting a console design just for it!

And dear... we adventured a few nights back then backed by this machine and some self-compiled emulation software, ZSnes and Gens, for the titles she had collected from a few local stores and magazines!

It was quite long ago... more than a decade and half... but it like all happened just yesterday, and how freaking awesome it was!
