seo-speedwagon··on Twitter suspends pg's account [fixed]
It’s interesting to consider that this is likely the “less online” crowd’s (i.e. what I suppose to be the vast majority of Twitter users) first experience with capricious and arbitrary moderation of their online discussions. Folks who have posted a lot in smaller forums with moderation drawn up from the user base are a lot more familiar with this kind of thing, but if you’ve only posted on corporate, “professionally moderated” platforms, it must be quite disorienting
seo-speedwagon··on Twitter has re-suspended ElonJet account
He should just make a rule that you can’t post about his plane. People would appreciate the honesty
seo-speedwagon··on The Twitter Files Part 2: Twitter's Secret Blacklists
None of this is new information. There is an entire help page about this

https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/twitter-reach...

The only new info I learned was Libs of TicTok apparently got special protections not afforded to regular users

seo-speedwagon··on The exploding Ford Pinto of 1973 (2021)
Crazy how back in the 70s, manufacturing a car that turned into a giant fireball in collisions would make it unpopular.

From a decade ago, cops bust into a guy’s house and he unloads on them. Fully acquitted

seo-speedwagon··on cdk8s: CNCF-Backed Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for Kubernetes
This is good to see. I haven't had a chance to play around with cdk8s, but I've used the AWS CDK and Helm pretty extensively. Helm was a good tool for its time, but the limitations of template-based reuse are pretty clear, at least to me.

Helm suffers from the common problem that occurs when you try to build reusability out of a template-based system. Eventually you end up surfacing so many configuration parameters to meet different use-cases and needs, that complexity starts becoming unmanageable.

CDK's approach tends to lead to smaller and more understandable IaC, because it targets re-use at the component level and not the application level. I haven't come across a template-based system that does that effectively; usually there's a macro-type system at most.

seo-speedwagon··on Kiwi Farms is down across all domains as DDoS-Guard terminates service
This is a pretty weak argument and extremely susceptible to Goodhart’s Law. It feels like you’re treating the existence of vile sites like this as a metric for the health of internet free speech. Be careful you don’t make the continued existence of such bigotry your target
seo-speedwagon··on Simone Biles, Aly Raisman Suing FBI for $1B over Larry Nassar Investigation
I consider the current path much, much riskier for society, where qualified immunity and SCOTUS precedent essentially shield cops entirely from the consequences of their misbehavior and malfeasance

I’m still salty that Germany didn’t send Electric Callboy
seo-speedwagon··on You're Not Losing Fat Because You're Eating Too Damn Much (2016)
The TLDR really is that counting calories is the only way to truly know. If you have a very regular diet it’s not too hard. For example I eat the same breakfast every day, and a handful of different lunches. So it’s easy to know what my macros are for those meals.

Incidentally at one restaurant I like, I always get the salad, because it’s one of the highest-calorie options they have.

seo-speedwagon··on Former employee blows whistle on baby formula production plant tied to outbreak
Even if we buy your premise that actually putting teeth behind food safety regulations would cause a capital strike, that just provides opportunity for others to step in and fill the gap. Like your post alludes to there is a large and stable demand for safe formula. The problem is right now one company owns a majority of the market share thanks to the poor way the existing govt reimbursement program is structured

Buddy I got some news for you r.e. the availability of that option

seo-speedwagon··on Disney tells investors state can’t dissolve special district without paying debt
Genuine question: how do you figure it’s unconstitutional?

Don’t states have pretty broad sway in how they manage their municipalities? It’s not like this is the first time a company owned a company town

edit: also it seems like they mostly took over local governance - fire, sewer, cops, trash, etc. I haven’t read anything about them not being subject to the state laws of Florida

seo-speedwagon··on The Tower of Weakenings: Memory Models for Everyone
This is my question as well. I don't write a lot of C or Rust code, so I'm curious when int -> ptr and ptr -> int conversions are actually needed in practice. The only scenarios I can think of with my limited domain experience in are low-level things where you actually know the numeric addresses of certain important locations in memory. In which case, saying "yeah, that's a lower level in the weakenings tower" seems sensible.

What’s your point?
seo-speedwagon··on First gene therapy for Tay-Sachs disease successfully given to two children
1. Tay-Sachs is not limited to a single ethnicity. Carriers exist in the population in general.

2. Assuming you’re referring to the fact that being a carrier is more common in Ashkenazi Jews, you’re aware that there are a number of genetic screening programs run by Jewish organizations, right?

seo-speedwagon··on Google lowered its salaries in North Carolina. Now workers are protesting
What would you have the maximum salary be (or total compensation, whichever metric you want), above which people are no longer entitled to unionize?
