senorqa··on CCC invites all model citizens to 40C3
He's great! I watched that talk couple of weeks ago. It's one of the best talks/performances I ever saw. Just give him a chance to entertain you.
senorqa··on The universal programming language of LLMs
Interesting. I've never heard of this before https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_workbench
senorqa··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
...Additionally, M5 Ultra features a massive amount of high-bandwidth unified memory, up to 512GB, and delivers a staggering 1.2TB/s of unified memory bandwidth that is 50 percent higher than M3 Ultra.

That's faster than majority of GPUs available today: 5090 ~1.8TB 5080 1TB 5070 0.72TB My R9700 0.64TB :(

senorqa··on My car’s OTA update broke Android Auto
I know people who aren't nerds and actually like to know what's in the update. Just ask a LLM to write a high level human-friendly description of the changes. That's it. Just be good to your customers or in general to others. Ignorance, whataboutism & Idontcareism spreads like plague. Don't make it worse.
senorqa··on Qwen 3.6 27B is the sweet spot for local development
On AMD R9700, I'm getting ~90 t/s with 35b MTP variant and ~40t/s with dense 27b MTP
senorqa··on Show HN: FastUbu – An Ultrafast Video Archive
This is amazing!!!
senorqa··on Making peace with your unlived dreams (2023)
These kind of articles remind me of an article in Polish I read few years ago: "Millennials are a generation that has fallen into the trap of constant self-development" It helped me to deal with my own unrealistic and unrealized dreams/aspirations/etc. Here's a version in English done by Google Translate https://archive.org/details/millennials-are-a-generation-tha... The original article in Polish: https://weekend.gazeta.pl/weekend/7,177344,30226401,milenial...
senorqa··on Failing grades soar with AI usage, dwindling math skills in Berkeley CS classes
Ages ago I had similar thoughts. Everything changed when I came to terms with the concept of change being the only constant. A bit of a cliché, perhaps, but profoundly true.
senorqa··on GitHub is sinking
OneDev is pretty cool too https://onedev.io/
senorqa··on A disabled kea parrot is the alpha male of his circus
Thanks to this article my WOTD is: allopreening - The mutual preening of two birds. Probably one of the most obscure words I've come across recently.
senorqa··on Brussels launched an age checking app. Hackers took 2 minutes to break it
stop calling it "age verification" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xa3-TkHBh90
senorqa··on Brussels launched an age checking app. Hackers took 2 minutes to break it
Why does this app even exist? Why is everyone in this thread so okay with more surveillance? It’s ironic that people are arguing over technicalities instead of tackling the moral and societal impact of age verification.
senorqa··on Microsoft Authenticator to nuke Entra creds on rooted and jailbroken phones
Just switch to Aegis Authenticator https://f-droid.org/packages/com.beemdevelopment.aegis
senorqa··on Study: emotional support from social media found to reduce anxiety
I think that the whole discussion about the impact of social media on people, especially the young ones, would change if people started calling social media what it should have been called from the beginning, namely anti-social media.
senorqa··on Sergey Brin's Unretirement
> Sergey Brin’s lesson for the rest of us

Is it? I know people who are really happy without doing much in their retirement. Probably because they weren't workaholics.

To my mind, if one doesn't have hobbies during the working years, then they will struggle to find purpose when they retite.

senorqa··on There Is No Future for Online Safety Without Privacy and Security
I’m puzzled by the limited opposition from businesses regarding government attempts to access encrypted communications. Granting governments easy access—which inevitably leads to uncontrolled monitoring—compromises a company’s most valuable asset: its privacy. This would effectively hand over the keys to their operations, exposing them to security breaches, stifling growth potential, limiting access to competitive markets, and ultimately, jeopardizing company ownership. Corrupt officials could exploit this access to manipulate markets, facilitate insider trading, sabotage business plans, and even plant fabricated evidence within company communications and systems, leading to potential takeover and imprisonment of owners.

senorqa··on A Brutal Look at Balanced Parentheses, Computing Machines, and Pushdown Automata
The pictures of Brutalist architecture are awesome!
senorqa··on Why I'm Learning Sumerian
> That's when I learned the difference between burnout and disillusionment. Burnout drains your body; disillusionment erases your purpose. You can recover from exhaustion with rest, but you need something else entirely to recover from meaninglessness.

This can be a life changing thought!

senorqa··on Two billion email addresses were exposed
If there's no meaningful reward or punishment for keeping or leaking PII, companies won't do anything about it. They'll keep collecting sensitive inf unless they're educated or forced not to collect unnecessary PII.

senorqa··on Nvidia buys $5B in Intel
I think trump told nvidia to buy those shares
senorqa··on The use of LLM assistants for kernel development
> The copyright status of LLM-generated code is of concern to many developers; if LLM-generated code ends up being subject to somebody's copyright claim, accepting it into the kernel could set the project up for a future SCO-lawsuit scenario.

Ain't that anticipatory obedience?

senorqa··on The cationic charged P-G3 reduces fat at targeted locations (2022)
Columbia researchers discover that the cationic charged P-G3 reduces fat at targeted locations by inhibiting the unhealthy lipid storage of enlarged fat cells
senorqa··on Graphene OS: a security-enhanced Android build
My personal favorite feature of GrapheneOS is that we can toggle the network access permission. In the past, I'd have to root my phone just to be able to install a firewall to do the same. Big props to GrapheneOS!
senorqa··on Graphene OS: a security-enhanced Android build
Revolut does work for me. They added support for GrapheneOS long time ago
senorqa··on A 1960s schools experiment that created a new alphabet
ITA looks like the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to me. I like that. If all English text was written in this way it'd be really easy to learn (at least for me). It reads like a breeze.
senorqa··on Try Switching to Kagi
99.99% of the time I use self-hosted instance of Searx-NG https://github.com/searxng/searxng You can easily co-host it with other apps on e.g. digitalocean for 4$ pcm. It's also highly customizable and your instance of Openweb UI can use it as search engine too.
