selivanovp··on [Dennis Yurichev] was forcefully draften/enrolled to Ukraine army
I don't think we have a totally verified number up to this day. It's definitely several thousands as Ukrainian army actively prevented civilians to leave the city, so significant number died under collapsed buildings.

Overall, according to UN "More than 12,654 civilian men, women, girls, and boys have been killed, and over 29,392 injured since 24 February 2022, as verified by HRMMU."

https://ukraine.un.org/en/289667-civilian-harm-and-human-rig...

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1293409/civilian-deaths-...

With the May of 2025 the total casualties are claimed as 13341:

selivanovp··on Israel said Iran racing toward a nuclear weapon. US Intel says it was years away
That's exactly what's going on. Bibi just uses a window of opportunity and forces USA to join in an attempt to regime change in Iran.

>Radio Free Europe is a really solid outlet that has maintained a balanced and consistent coverage of Russia for many years

Lmao. I guess you're their employee?

>this seems to piss off Russian

Yes, that's the only thing they're good at. Pissing off Russian citizens as the level of lies they keep producing for years is just unbelievable.

selivanovp··on [Dennis Yurichev] was forcefully draften/enrolled to Ukraine army
Man, stop reading and posting this propaganda bullshit. RFERL is a shithole on a USAID payroll.

Migrants can't even be conscripted as they're not Russia citizens. So, police raids against migrants are targeting illegal migration, have nothing to do with military service.

selivanovp··on [Dennis Yurichev] was forcefully draften/enrolled to Ukraine army
You're missing/mixing the concepts.

Conscripts army exists in Russia for decades, it's a mandatory service unless you are not fit due to some illness or due to higher education exceptions. Russia conscripts from every region proportionally to a population about 160k people every half a year (1 year mandatory service). These people do not participate in Ukrainian war directly unless they're part of the border guard and Ukraine tries to breach it.

And there's a professional army, with contracts. That's who is fighting in Ukraine. Conscripts after their mandatory service is finished may sign or not sign a professional contract. MoD hires soldiers in every region, pays good salaries, but this salary is very lucrative for periphery regions, but not as attractive compared to some jobs in cities like Moscow or St.Petersburg. Yet, they increased bonuses for two capitals compared to other cities. So, overall, most soldiers are not from Msk or SPb, but every region has enough volunteers so far to not mobilize.

selivanovp··on Google aims to reinvent email with Wave (2009)
Wave was an interesting project. I really liked to be able to subscribe to certain waves and read the news from there. Sad that it ended up in a grave of most other Google projects.
selivanovp··on Musk Says SpaceX to Decommission Dragon Spacecraft Immediately
Yeah, pretty sure that they'll just nationalize SpaceX to prevent it from happening, but not gonna lie, it'd be funny to see how USA government would have to crawl back to Russia for ISS resupply.
selivanovp··on Musk Says SpaceX to Decommission Dragon Spacecraft Immediately
It was obvious from the beginning, that economical miracle of SpaceX is based on government subsidies. Without USA pumping money in every Musk project, his hi-tech businesses are dead.
selivanovp··on We are no longer a serious country
Yes, USA is not. But not because of just Trump. The process started a while ago, when USA elites decided that they’re “exceptional”, and started to promote so called “rules based order”, with the only rule that reads like “USA may do whatever they want to do, and you have to obey our orders, or you’ll be punished”.

Diplomacy is dead in USA. These days nobody sane in the world believes anything coming out of White House, not even a paper, and Trump is just a current facade for the same elites that nobody trusts.

selivanovp··on KDE for Windows 10 Exiles – Upgrade your software, not your computer
Usable and lack of additional functionality are absolutely different things. Gnome is the most usable DE in linux, and a default for major distributions for a reason. It’s simple, it’s coherent, pretty much never breaks and just in general designed to bother you as less as possible so you can just do your work.

KDE tries to satisfy anyone with all kinds of options, but as a result most of such options are half baked and DE starts to fall apart with memory leaks and inconsistency as soon as you’re deviating from default experience enough. I do like KDE’s innovations and attempts to get as maximum performance as possible, but sad truth is that in he last 15 years I’m trying fresh KDE once in a year or two, but have to crawl back to gnome after about a week, as small but annoying problems, memory leaks or inconsistencies result in frustration.

selivanovp··on KDE for Windows 10 Exiles – Upgrade your software, not your computer
Try again with Ubuntu’s Gnome if you’ll have an opportunity. The “problem” with KDE is that it tries to look like and behave similar to Windows, but it’s not, so older people that remembered how to deal with one UI are confused when what looks similar in reality behaves differently. And it results in frustration.

Gnome, on the other hand, provides a totally different UI, so user immediately identifies that it is different and needs to be learned a bit. But thanks to Gnome being pretty coherent and simple in how UI works, it usually takes very little time to learn and then they just keep using it. I experimented with my parents, father is 70, mother 65, and they both earned default Ubuntu very quickly and don’t have any issues using it, unlike win10+, which constantly raised questions and frustrations that something changed (MS likes to bring idiotic widgets to panels and menus after updates no matter that nobody asked for them).

selivanovp··on Britain's biggest companies are preparing for a third world war
That’s not true. Russia was perfectly fine with a sovereign Ukraine, as long as it respected their own constitution and terms of separations from USSR: to be a military non aligned country.

It’s not so hard to notice, that all the problems started when the other side of Budapest memorandum decided to not respect it anymore. Since 2004 Ukraine became less and less sovereign, resulting in a puppet government installed in 2014 and starting the hot phase. It’s also not hard to notice, that at every step Ukraine could chose negotiations, but was pushed towards more confrontation by Western bakers.

selivanovp··on Why old games never die, but new ones do
Old games were created to tell you a story, or surprise you with unusual environment, or unique gameplay, or some mix of above.

These days games are created on the base of monetisation with everything else intended to hide the fact that the goal is to pump as much money from you as possible.

Quit using Arch. Normal linux distros have no such problems.
selivanovp··on India launches attack on 9 sites in Pakistan and Pakistani Jammu and Kashmir
They had neither money nor ability to support their bombers. And that’s why they happily cut them to pieces for US dollars. Russia managed to get just a part of the fleet thanks to massive gas debt already accumulated by Ukraine back then.

selivanovp··on Oracle engineers caused five days software outage at U.S. hospitals
Because Oracle comes to any country/industry with trucks of money to corrupt officials and lobby their adoption.

And after a few years you find yourself in a situation when you already paid for Oracle so much, integrated it so deeply, so switching to any alternative is a massive pain and in most cases it’s safer and easier to keep paying Oracle.

selivanovp··on Widespread power outage in Spain and Portugal
The answer is simple: EU and USA taxpayers billions pumped into Ukraine to buy hundreds of thousands of mobile diesel powered generators and fuel for them, and spare parts and replacement blocks for everything that’s been destroyed.

On top of that, Ukraine inherited a lot of nuclear power plants, and despite losing the largest one in Zaporozhie region, still operates all the other as Russia doesn’t attack them in any serious way.

No miracles, just pumping money non stop.

selivanovp··on Full power outage in Spain and Portugal
Dugin's views and influence is greatly exaggerated in Western media.

>renewed Russian empire that stretches from “Lisbon to Vladivostok,” a phrase popularized by Dugin and repeated by Putin."

This is a direct lie. Putin has never said this.

And one of the greatest lies that is being spread about Putin that he intends to conquer Europe and recreate Russian Empire.

selivanovp··on Full power outage in Spain and Portugal
No in most cases. Meta products are banned, twitter, discord and youtube (this one mostly works in reality), but pretty much everything else is unaffected.

Some Western side companies banned Russia by IP's like Intel, but in general, my list of websites to tunnel through a VPN is rather short, like a dozen and mostly to unblock youtube as meta and twitter are cancer anyway.

selivanovp··on Russian Propaganda Campaign Targets France with AI-Fabricated Scandals
That project has nothing to do with Russian censorship. Libgen has always existed as a way to share scientific and other literature for free, basically supporting communism in such a way.

Russia in attempt to make friends with the West at some point approved the laws to prevent piracy and started to respect foreign intellectual property and copyrights, so projects like libgen were outlawed and forced to hide/ change hosting.

But all the books, videos, games etc sharing websites that were born on a territory of the former USSR has nothing to do with censorship, but economic reality that after switching from communism to capitalism citizens became so piss poor, that couldn’t afford to pay for such things, and their communistic mind still thought, that information has to be distributed for free.

selivanovp··on Russian Propaganda Campaign Targets France with AI-Fabricated Scandals
I find it amusing how you guys are noticing ethnicity when it suits to point that someone doing good is not ethnically Russian, but doing an opposite when you need to prove that Russians are bad.

Stalin was a Georgian, Khruschev and Brezhnev were from Ukraine, and together their ruled most of USSR history, but it’s Russians to blame.

Elbakyan was born in USSR in a Russian Armenian family, on a territory that is now a separate country- Kazakhstan.

selivanovp··on Philip K. Dick: Stanisław Lem Is a Communist Committee (2015)
The funny story is that Lem despised this adaptation and for a good reason if you manage to read his book. He called Tarkovsky an idiot and refused to cooperate with him on the script as Tarkovsky threw pretty much all of Lem ideas from the book to shoot Crime and Punishment in space.
selivanovp··on Syrian government falls in end to 50-year rule of Assad family
I do remember the same shit promoted when Gaddafi was toppled.

And then Western mass media stopped showing news from "freed" Libya. Because, you know, public executions and human slave markets kinda not something, their population should know about, unless it's done by "bad guys".

selivanovp··on Assad Has Left Damascus
Get ready for new waves of Syrian refugees in your countries.
selivanovp··on Prediction-Nuclear Pwr Will Be > 30% of New Installed Capacity in 10 Years in US
It looks like wishful thinking. There were reasons why USA for decades was buying Russian nuclear fuel and not building new nuclear power plants. Meanwhile, Russia and China were building them all over the world. Restoring competences and building lots of new stations in just 10 years seems not realistic.
selivanovp··on Why the Guardian is no longer posting on X
It depends on what country you live in. Youtube was throwing Navalny and his friends videos into my feed no matter the "don't recommend videos from this channel" button. It somewhat lowered the intensity, but they still tried to mix their political agenda into my feed.
selivanovp··on My company has banned the use of Jetbrains IDEs internally
Nobody likes traitors. My guess is that in a couple of years JetBrains gonna be bought by one of the USA corps, most probably Google.
