selectnull··on I resigned from Anthropic today
As a big fan of the whole Foundation saga, I don't remember any wars in "Robots and Empire" 3 books. Granted, those were the only books I've read only once (and a long time ago), but I'm pretty sure there was no war.
selectnull··on fx :Tiny, open, native coding agent.
Because we are in a gold rush and the best thing to sell are the shovels.
selectnull··on Odin, Wikipedia and engagement farming
Well, you're one of today's lucky 10000.

selectnull··on The <usermedia> HTML element
> When and why did people stop using Firefox?

Approximately at the time when majority of the Mozilla resources started going into non-browser projects. And pretty much for the same reason.

selectnull··on Show HN: Gitdot – A better GitHub. Open-source, written in Rust
> Install gitdot-cli to push and clone private repos

Hmmm... no. Why should I? Just let me use git.

selectnull··on Stop the Apple Music app from launching
Apple Music can not be uninstalled. That's pretty much "press ganged" in my book.
selectnull··on The Pressure
There are a lot of posts from prominent open source maintainers about this topic and from a far away, I always wonder if the solution is actually simpler than they want to admit: treat the project like a real business.

`curl` (and similarly important projects) have a tremendous leverage with the big tech and I don't see any of them on curl's sponsors page. Why not?

The sales pitch (and yes, treating the project like a business implies sales) would be simple: we are curl, you depend on us, pay us 1M/anually and with that money we'll hire the experts that we need to continue the development and support of the project. Raise a few millions (recurring) and secure the project's financial stability. Pay yourself a respectable salary, hire people. If "the big tech" refuses, publicly call them out on it. Connect with other prominent projects and act together. The internet depends on you, you should be awarded.

I have a tremendous respect for curl as a project and Daniel as a person (based on his writtings, never met him) and I know it's easy to comment out the stuff on the internet from a safe distance, but I still wonder if things could be actually different.

selectnull··on Googlebook
No, they will promise 7 years of update but kill it in 2.
selectnull··on Zig → Rust porting guide
Why not rewrite claude-code in Rust?

So, Anthropic acquires Bun team because claude-code uses Bun. They port Bun from Zig to Rust presumably because Rust "is better" (imagine big air quotes here). Again presumably, they want to make claude-code "better". Why make it so complicated? With all the power of LLMs they have, surely they can make claude-code the best possible by writting it in Rust directly.

selectnull··on Before GitHub
> what fossils are stored in within a museum is referred to as a "repository"

I own a cute domain for that: repositoryum.com. I had the plans for it, but it's one of those that never came to a realization.

selectnull··on Google announced that Chrome is becoming an agentic workplace platform
I remember when Chrome got released in very early beta, it was a breath of fresh air. Clearly, these are different times but I kinda hope that Ladybird (https://ladybird.org/) will become a worthy newcomer to the browser scene soon.
selectnull··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
> Apple’s software is the best [...] compared to Google's or Microsoft's

Honestly, that's such a low bar to hit.

selectnull··on Dario – local proxy to keep Claude Pro/Max working with any client
I love the name :D
selectnull··on Keychron's keyboards are now open source
"This project is source-available. Commercial use is strictly prohibited."

Nevertheless, very cool. Love those keyboards, planning to replace my K1 with a new one soon.

selectnull··on Astral to Join OpenAI
I see a lot of comments that are "somebody should fork this" or "community will fork it" or similar.

I didn't see a single comment of "I will fork it" type.

selectnull··on Hammerspoon
Love hammerspoon. I use it to map double CMD to swap between the terminal and the browser.
selectnull··on Anthropic blocks third-party use of Claude Code subscriptions
I'm willing to cancel my Claude subscription because of this.
selectnull··on Tell HN: HN was down
I already knew that. :)
selectnull··on Sick of smart TVs? Here are your best options
It's not that simple.

In the email you have linked to, he does not support tivoization. He simply says that he finds the term offensive (which is really funny coming from him).

Torvalds has also publicly stated that he doesn't think that tivoization benefits users, but it's not his battle to fight. More info on that topic can be found in the linked YT (linked at the precise time he is answering the question about tivoization, but the whole video is about GPL v2 vs GPL v3).

selectnull··on Ask HN: Why is there black line on top? I guess not because of Cloudflare outage
There can be more than one post about it.
selectnull··on Ask HN: Why is there black line on top? I guess not because of Cloudflare outage
Because of https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45960368
selectnull··on XSLT RIP
The difference being that JS is used a lot and XSLT not so much.
selectnull··on Tell HN: macOS 26 is making me have regrets for the first time in 12yrs
As someone who hasn't upgraded yet, what is causing the 15s wait after a locked system? That sounds terrible.
selectnull··on Show HN: I'm rewriting a web server written in Rust for speed and ease of use
There is something funny going on in the benchmarking section. If you look at the charts, they don't benchmark the same servers in 4 examples.

Each of the 4 charts have data for Ferron and Caddy, but then include data for lighttpd, apache, nginx and traefik selectively for each chart, such that each chart has exactly four selected servers.

That doesn't inspire confidence.

selectnull··on Vite+ – Unified toolchain for the web
I belong to the "small business" group and as such I would be entitled to "free" plan. But, I would actually prefer to pay and have the assurance that the team will be here to maintain it.

Please list the prices.

selectnull··on Modern Linux tools
So much talk about paying open source developers and when someone actually does something about it and try to make some money, it's again not good enough.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

selectnull··on Modern Linux tools
The tool itself has no ads. What's wrong with a README having an ad?
selectnull··on Better Curl Saul: a lightweight API testing CLI focused on UX and simplicity
A few years ago I was thinking about that same problem and came up with this: https://github.com/selectnull/endpoint

I don't see myself having the time to implement all the features I sometimes (half-assed) think of. It's semi useful tool, sometimes.

selectnull··on Chrome's New AI Features
That reminds me to donate to Ladybird.
