Congress is so strange. A man gets up to speak and says nothing. Nobody listens—and then everybody disagrees.

The whole discussion and the article are just an instance of an optimization problem, for a crowd that claims to be technical, the fact that the discussion has so much heat is revealing.

Would love to see people read, write and do more math.

> It’s not really about the numbers though.

Of course not.

seg_lol··on New York’s budget bill would require “blocking technology” on all 3D printers
We have video from both sides of the door of a stack of ICE agents with AR15s breaking down a door to a daycare without a warrant.

We have video of at least three ICE agents executing people in the street with testimony that contradicts what we see with our eyes.

seg_lol··on Adobe Animate will be discontinued
Knowing how to finish can be just as important as how to start.

Or, a bad finish can absolutely ruin a good start.

Adobe has no clue how unattractive it is right now.

seg_lol··on Don't rent the cloud, own instead
Your numbers don't line up, if you are spending 5k in cloud costs, and on prem is 1/3 of cloud. At 48 month replacement cycle, 1/3 of 5k * 48 months is 80k. So it is 80k vs 5k a month for 48 months.

I think the primary reason that people over fixate on the cloud is that they can't do math. So renting is a hedge.

seg_lol··on Don't rent the cloud, own instead
Using "big" cloud providers is often a mistake. You want to use rented assets to bootstrap and then start deploying on instances that are more and more under your control. With big cloud providers, it is easy to just succumb to their service offerings rather than do the right thing. Do your PoC on Hetzner and DigitalOcean then scale with purpose.
seg_lol··on A real-world benchmark for AI code review
Curious what papers you are reading on this. Benchmarks are way more important than people realize, on every level.

> Why would the 2A people say anything

Because Trump is very anti 2A.

Of which Pretti did zero of.

seg_lol··on I miss thinking hard
I think harder while using agents, just not about the same things. Just because we all got a super powers doesn't make the problems go away, they just move and we still have our full brains to solve them.

It isn't all great, skills that feel important have already started atrophying, but other skills have been strengthened. The hardest part is in being able to pace onself as well as figuring out how to start cracking certain problems.

I'd be more excited about Intel making HBM.

seg_lol··on The TSA's New $45 Fee to Fly Without ID Is Illegal
The confusion in this thread shows me that even here, no one understands even the question, let alone the answer.

You can walk someone to the gate, you just have to have a ticket.
seg_lol··on The TSA's New $45 Fee to Fly Without ID Is Illegal
This is a scam that the GOP has convinced many of, that taking from the government commons is the right thing to do. But the GOP is the embodiment of a low trust society. I'd rather live in a high trust society.

I had like a +7 random screening hit streak once. Old and comfortable and that melts away as you become the system.

How about standardizing on an API, then switching backends can be up to the administrator of the machine.

seg_lol··on Bugs Apple loves
My favorite one is Calendar, where you just made a new calendar entry and if you hit Esc to make the window go away, it will delete the whole thing. It isn't a dialog box, there is no save. If you hit close, it will close, if you click away, it will close, but if you hit Esc it will delete silently.

I asked people that work at Apple, they hate these bugs as well, but they don't fix them!

The US is subsidizing and allowing technofeudalism to grow larger, not supporting the base to raise the whole pyramid.
