seebetter··on Hackers take over prominent Twitter accounts in simultaneous attack
And just as I checked it, they pinned this tweet (an hour later)--

Elon Musk @elonmusk·38s

I am giving back to my community due to Covid-19!

All Bitcoin sent to my address below will be sent back doubled. If you send $1,000, I will send back $2,000!

Only doing this for the next 30 minutes! Enjoy.

seebetter··on SEC issues $3.8M whistleblower award
I knew a libertarian activist who never paid taxes on $1 million+ earned over 5-years. He'd get giant letters from the IRS in the mail. Years later he got involved in crypto and promoted a $750 million scheme. Knowing he had issues with the IRS, he contacted them offering information on international money launderers. He flew to Florida and was arrested by the FBI. He's facing 20+ years.
seebetter··on Starlink WiFi Router FCC Approved
A Starry employee told me they're going to start offering Starlink Internet next year in rural areas. In my city they're offering a $50/month 200-300 mb/s service using Air Fiber from Ubiquity.
seebetter··on The TikTok War
That’s not true about YT wormholes pushing viewers into far right content.

And yes people are being banned for innocuous misgendering. And for saying only biological women are women. It’s not hate speech to say that.

Declaring things as true don’t make them true. Let’s try reasoning from first principles and acknowledging that principles actually exist. Amorphous relativism is a destructive force in society.

seebetter··on Ex-Googler's startup comes out of stealth with simple, clever robot design
I'd like to buy one and try to have it build a robot like itself. Would I be able to sell them? Maybe now but not the version in 2040.
seebetter··on The greatest privilege we never talk about: beauty
People are more biased by charisma, beauty, having a skill, being fashionable, being talented, working hard etc etc. The idea that race alone is a deciding factor is minor compared to how attractive you are in general.
seebetter··on Whose Land – Indigenous Nations of North America
Was the word rape even a word 12,000 years ago?

It's shocking that my comment which is a balanced, reasonable, principled perspective, is considered controversial. John Locke is debatable now? Well let's hope the European Union and China know better how to prevent individuals from abusing others by ascending through government structures.

seebetter··on Whose Land – Indigenous Nations of North America
Name another country that's built better systems.

Of course, LIFE isn't fair. But be careful tearing down classical liberalism hoping that some centralized authority will dictate the perfect expression of how a human being should exist.

seebetter··on July 11, 2020 RIP my darling boy
Based on this story with Aaron and experiences in the 1990s with hacker friends, my opinion of federal prosecutors is very low. I see them as highly educated people who excel in relativism and twist ethics and law to achieve narrow goals without regard to principles.

Compounding this, I also got into a dispute with two former federal prosecutors, both of whom did wildly unethical things. One represents the Police Chief and the Sheriff of a major city. I can't even believe that former US Attorneys would act this way, but then I'm reminded by Alexander Acosta who protected Epstein.

seebetter··on U.S. Supreme Court deems half of Oklahoma a Native American reservation
They already do this in LA. Get sentenced to 120 days in jail but due to overcrowding you’d do 5-10 days in jail.

Soon local politicians will require you only to do 1% of jail time so you’ll be sentenced to a 100 years in jail for a misdemeanor. This already exists in the California bail system where you pay 1% of astronomically high bails (eg $60,000 bail for 1st time misdemeanor, like if they change a court date and fail to inform you).

seebetter··on Voice, an invite-only social network where everyone is verified
They raised like $4 billion. I like Dan Larimer but here's a funny article that encompasses his background-

seebetter··on The Purpose of Persuasion
Few people correctly remember that "yelling fire in a crowded theater" was a comment directed at anti-war socialists who were distributing 'propaganda' against World War I. It's a rallying cry for suppressing war protesters.
seebetter··on Zuckerberg: advertisers will be back to Facebook 'soon enough'
Facebook is funny because I generally agree and disagree with everyone. But people make their points so poorly, they have no sense of objectivity or analytical ability, that I’m dismayed by all sides by the lack of a principled approach.

90% of what people post about is a distraction and futile. I wish Facebook could motivate and inform people to attend local government meetings. Instead, it’s like an interactive tabloid magazine that we’re embedded in. We’re on the shelf in a Rite-Aid living in a world of ridiculousness as corporations pass by us and sell us stuff. 24 hours a day.

seebetter··on India bans TikTok, WeChat, and dozens of other Chinese apps
The Chinese State is based on Marxism-Leninism and wants to dominate the world. There is a difference in that and any other country that acknowledges natural rights. If you believe rights are innate, then you can’t openly tolerate a state that denies them.

I often think what would California look like if it had the laws of Texas. Or what would China look like if it had the structure and motivations of Nevada? Both have Elon Musk and gambling.

seebetter··on Facial Recognition Leads To False Arrest Of Black Man In Detroit
Reminds me of this-

Facial recognition technology flagged 26 California lawmakers as criminals. (August 2019)

seebetter··on The history that James Baldwin wanted America to see
Well some people think Robert E. Lee handled the defeat of the war in a noble way. While I’ve heard many perspectives, I’m not sure of the origins of the war or the implications. President Lincoln was a legitimate racist, so his opinion compared to a slave owner’s mind are both horrific representations of humanity. If it was solely for slavery, and there was no other way to end it, then it was worth 600,000 Americans lives.

I am, however, for keeping all statues. They aren’t the reason for wealth inequality or racism. It’s a diversion than only helps the powerful.

seebetter··on Procrastination is driven by our desire to avoid difficult emotions, says expert
I view Ritalin and Adderall as a performance enhancer. I have never seen a biological study proving ADHD except perhaps some EEG. Virtually everyone I have known prescribed amphetamines abused them.

(Anecdotal warning) And my ex roommate was a large prescriber of Adderall. He would see patients for 3 minutes. He had 3 homes (one an $8m condo) and drove a matte black Lamborghini Aventador. He was way overweight and dressed like Mick Jagger on LSD. That’s the type of person diagnosing ADHD at least in Los Angeles.

seebetter··on Jim Keller to Depart Intel
Jim’s talk with Lex Friedman was quite amazing. Highly recommend listening-

seebetter··on Blur Tools for Signal
There is no purpose for this. I was in the protests and amid the looting in LA. You’re being photographed for dozens of different angles.

I love Signal but it’s so klunky and broken. Telegram is much more fluid despite it being less secure.

And the Mayors in LA let the looting happen purposely.

seebetter··on How a lazy bitch like me learned to be productive
Speaking of lazy, if your brain is lazy like mine it might interpret this sentence differently:

“I only make one or two habits each month.”

The words above it combined with the expectation that I thought it said “baby habits” made my brain flash “I only hit 1 or 2 babies each month.” Hopefully I’m not the only person that experienced this.
