The article was posted by "cprogrammer1994", that should've been a hint!
sdiepend··on Ask HN: What do you think of the Wordle guy not monetizing it?
Everything is a remix of other things that look like it. In this case it's the fact that everyone has the same word every day and you can compare how well you did that made it go viral.
sdiepend··on Show HN: I make $3K/mo from a browser extension
I really appreciate you taking your chances and building something for yourself and being able the live off of it is even better. I'd call it "hack your life" ;) and find Timwi's reaction overly negative.

I also share the feeling it could have been a Tell HN instead of a Show HN.

But let's be honest, of course you want to promote your product. It's not a bad thing to admit that.

There are people that spend most of their available hours playing video games against other players to get the most kills, wins, ... but of course we call them esports athletes.

For some people it's a job that generates income for others it's an addiction that impairs proper functioning.

Diving into a old undocumented codebase and then deleting code, rewriting code and document it without breaking stuff can be more challenging than designing and writing new code.

> > we don’t use DNS internally — just configuration-managed /etc/hosts files

That's what configuration management does for you, edit the file in one place(preferable it's also in version control) and it will change it on every system for you. Some config mangement "tools" that do this for you: Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Saltstack, ...

We have a global economy but not a global tax system or a global set of rules. That's the essence of the issue here I think. What also happens is countries upping one another with lower taxes and exceptions to attract big companies hoping to get some (small) benefit from it.
