Regulatory capture - the weapon is for them to be used against us, not for us.
sda2··on Making Cooled Clothing
Ice bandanas are popular in the running scene, contact with the neck may help with thermal transfer (and also the perception of cooling).
sda2··on [dead]
Even treated as disposable objects with no warranty, these bags are a bargain for $2.
sda2··on Never Give Them Your Face
Can we start a trend of wearing ski masks and other face coverings in public?

sda2··on New Apple Silicon M4 and M5 HiDPI Limitation on 4K External Displays
Could one emulate an 8K display with software and mirror the result to the external display?

sda2··on A sufficiently detailed spec is code
it’s a measure of efficiency. one might not care about tokens until vendors jack up the price and running your own comparable model is infeasible.
sda2··on Suburban school district uses license plate readers to verify student residency
probably the same sort of demented people supporting Flock cameras in their own neighborhoods.
sda2··on AI Made Writing Code Easier. It Made Being an Engineer Harder
1 PM, 1 designer, 1 developer, and 10 SREs to clean up the mess.
sda2··on Ask HN: Job seekers, what's working / not working?
what’s working? physically, mentally, and spiritually checking out.

as the saying goes, not wanting is as good as having ;)

sda2··on ChatGPT Health
no one should trust any EMR or organization with their health data, it'll all be leaked eventually.
sda2··on Jony Ive's OpenAI Device Barred From Using 'io' Name
… a jerk off instruction?
sda2··on Modern cars are spying on you. Here's what you can do about it
it may be better to code out TPMS anyways. I had a BMW that wouldn't allow you to enter Sport/Sport+ when TPMS light was on, what a drag.
sda2··on The Tesla Model Y Just Scored the Worst Reliability Rating in a Decade
German cars can be very reliable if maintained properly. I think a lot of the bad reputation stems from owners who buy a depreciated German car and then cut corners on maintenance.

Japanese cars are more forgiving in that regard; some can go forever with the bare minimum.

sda2··on Small changes that made our daily stand-ups more useful
If I can’t report on what I did yesterday in excrutiating detail, how will I justify my job and avoid layoffs?

ha, we use NewRelic for our application but the company is so cheap, they won’t even buy the infra team a license!

it’s like we were playing musical chairs, the music stopped, and then they took away half the chairs.

given your impeccable taste, what are your top artists/albums of 2023?
sda2··on Apple TV, now with more Tailscale

sda2··on New Finnish study confirms that BMW and Audi owners drive like idiots
in my locale, Tesla drivers are far worse than any BMW/Merc/Audi. The combination of pretentiousness and a car that promotes unconscious driving leads to bad outcomes.
