It is absolutely not supported by the Greens [1].

"The Greens have also called for:

A ban on the targeting, harvesting and selling of young people's data

A Digital Duty of Care on tech platforms

EU-style guardrails to limit the toxicity of algorithms and extreme content

The ability for users to turn down and opt-out of unwanted content

The full release of the Online Safety Act review.

Investment in education for young people and their families to help develop digital literacy and online safety skills, and equip them with the tools and resources they need for positive and responsible online use.

So powerful, an unequivocal argument for vaccination. Being born mid-1970s, I might have got peak lead exposure, but I'm so lucky to have got the measles vaccine (amongst others).

Straight to under 0.5% usage no doubt. Making a mockery of all the unpaid people who have committed code over the years. The Mozilla foundation have shirked their responsibility as a bastion against commercial interests.

Unaffordable housing, working 3 jobs, and ever-reducing social safety net are the ideal conditions for people to raise a family. I can't work it out.

Great for dnd dice, crits errytime

I used to subscribe to this argument but there is unlimited research on things that can't be owned.

Removing water from the atmosphere on scale can only be devastating to global weather patterns. Sorry country B, you get no more rain because country A is harvesting all the water.

I have some minimally popular answers on SO and for years my "points" graph has notched its way upwards. It flatlined at the start of 2024 as people moved to AI.

The best thing about SO is seeing the competing solutions, the discussions, meaning with some discernment you can find that peer-reviewed high quality code snippet. Why would people prefer whatever the AI spits out?

Fortunately I see a few blips on SO so hopefully people are coming back now that the shine has worn off AI.

What is the value of SO to the world economy? Billions. Like the internet archive, it should be some sort of government funded (UN?) library

My (government-funded) primary school got a room full of these, plus a couple of disk drives, printers and whatever networking joined them together. It must have cost a fortune. Of the handful of students I have since run into, 2 worked in IT for universities and one in defence. Plus whatever digital literacy was instilled in the people who went into areas outside IT. Pretty smart investment in building a future workforce.

I figure the AI is a long way from understanding why the dev environment is pointed to the test database, while the test environment is pointed to the dev database. lol

It really is the strangest community. Clearly an ex-slashdot flavor to it like free the penguins and then someone will make a comment that right-to-repair "increases costs and reduces profitability" and shouldn't be allowed. I don't think these people would naturally have a beer together.

So someone got a job from it. They paid income tax, spent their salary at the local stores, which paid other people's salaries who paid income tax and spend their salary at the local stores. Why is this a problem. Reducing all this employment reduces money flowing around the economy (a factor in the Great Depression).

Cadbury and purple...

These colours are their trademarks but I believe they don't own the colour in all domains.. probably just food? If you wanted to make a car company logo that colour you'd be ok?

That's just the direct value, how about the whole dimension of training the AI models

AI responses need a source (lol, I know) or they just can't be trusted. It's that simple. Unless you believe everything you read on the Internet!

They obviously are a step of evolution beyond search in capability.

My house is about 55 years old, originally it had 3 x 60W bulbs in the living area. So dark. Now it has LED downlights and 2 pendant lights - I added it up to just over 60W, and much brighter. I'll take the modern lighting thanks!

I agree, but we'll see what motivation hundreds of billions of dollars of cost saving (i.e. people's livelihoods) produces I guess?

I had not been across this issue but wow this article is enlightening.

> What business do you or I have in forcing upon them what they can do?

It's called regulation and we do it all the time.

I just think we'd fly to another city, or even internationally for 17 hours, without giving the radiation a second thought. It's just not rational to worry about 1/17 of that dose, once every 2 years, when there is apparently a benefit to oral health. If the dentist wanted to do it every week then that would be something to object to.

Australian here, and I will say that I fully trust my dentist. I have had one tiny cavity in nearly 20 years. X-rays are every 2 years, and it's to see between the teeth where they obviously can't see visually. I've been told the radiation dose is the equivalent of an hour on a plane flight.

Stop believing that these companies and people are benevolent.

Who's to say? It was setup to get nations talking and prevent another world war. We haven't had a world war since.

The United Nations deserves credit for this as much as anything.

I'm still waiting for the Virtual Reality from 1996 to change the world. Colour me surprised that AI is being found to be 90% hype.

I think Whittaker's changed their recipe some time in the last year. Whittaker's was what Cadbury used to be (good) but now I think they have both followed the same course. Markedly lower quality. This is the 200g blocks fwiw not sure about the wee 50g peanut slab.

Shower here too, and walking the dog

Apple killed PWAs years ago.

Eat (edit: whole foods) like your grandparents, don't smoke tobacco, exercise.
