scrubs··on MongoDB CEO resigns to join Meta
Folks, we also need to address why meta hired the guy if failing up hypothesis is to gain ground. Meta is either part of the problem, stupid, or wants his connections all arguably bad.

scrubs··on A single firm is behind OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta hacking scandals
Last month I can report my better half's company let ai do a code review, which it then escalated into completing the PR since it was not approved for 72hrs, which lead to it logging into a remote office's voip and main IP router system which it shutdown. No phones. No internet.

Why in the hell do people let ai out with keys? I mean c'mon!!

scrubs··on Anthropic CEO says AI swarm could 'take over the Internet' in 6-12 months
But not before the second coming claims pentacostal fundamentalist christains!!

Congrats! Certain companies are running with the same fear driven crazy nonsense that blows through the other side time to time. Hell, get together! Maybe ill get a wedding invite. I'll hang on it the wall. It'll give me something to think about.

To be sure the craziness is for $$$$$$$. They want to look like the inevitable next big thing ... which has similarity to the other s... well they want their 10% cut regardless

scrubs··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
All the time? Oh, c'mon!

By the way two important social media strategies whether on TV or in text forums are,

1) appear unflappable

2) never deviate from the talking points

Read (1) and (2) with an implied parenthetical phrase: "when in public"

These are effective because the other side usually settles for small wins of seeing their counterpart flinch, feel lost or embarrassed i.e. to win in a fleeting way. Therefore, to the degree you can keep a straight face the better you deflect these small wins ... in public.

It has a strong secondary benefit of removing from context common sense, consistency i.e. the realm of cause/effect, policy where reality is more closely aligned. And when that goes out the window, your runway to BS is 10x longer.

Ejecting family wrongly arrested, misidentified, or those have followed the law (meager and crappy as it is sometimes), or who are denied due process is not unalloyed win in private people claim in public. Even if the guy is here is illegal and should be removed ... there's kids, money, and other dependencies involved. It's not the clean win people say.

What goes on off camera and off the HTML page is a whole other reality.

Here's an anecdote I heard personally: a guy I know went to Mar a Largo for a business function not related to Trump, but as a club house selling its meeting rooms and menu for revenue. My buddy is a non-white guy of considerable wealth, business success, and connections. This guy allegedly ran into Harris Faulkner (FOX news host) . During chit-chat she said she told this guy she does not associate with everything she says on camera. She continued to explain by saying she presents a viewpoint her employer pays her to convey.

scrubs··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
That 35% will change their tune if it screws their stuff up. Trump et al is great in the large unless he's your business partner or boss screwing your money and life up, hitting on your wife or daughter, owes you money etc. Cheap symbolism is appealing in a fog only, not in your face.
scrubs··on Never Forget How Eagerly Apple and Google Coddled Fascism
Pathetic. The most maddening words in corporate america are "ohhhh, mmmeeee tooo".

If it's minor then why comply? If it's major then it's a major error to comply.

Stop being an apologist for the stupidity of corporate America. And yah, I can and I do blame them.

A final point: the more political things get, the more things become about cheap symbolism and shadow boxing BS the more things get untied to reality which pre-sages failure.

scrubs··on Software is about people, not code (2020)
Of course CS is about code. To say otherwise is absurd. And organizational climate can be a huge problem to doing "business" in the drucker, Deming, ishikawa, munger, buffet sense.

And there too CS must work in business ... these ties are not optional carrying large magintudes.

scrubs··on Software is about people, not code (2020)
I agree with article thesis. I have come to conclusion myself previously.

In fact, after every 15-20 years working for corporate america i get so sick of it, I take 18-24 months off. The first time I went back to school. This time im working on a start up.

"Management"? Pleeeaaaassse .. 99% are glorified overpaid babysitters and gossipers with consequent degradation of organizational cohesion.

You better hope I don't aim AI at your job!

Now, I have run into some super smart middle managers. My better half works for a wonderful set of people. Man oh man what a difference the gems make. Thank goodness there are some guys and gals out there who bring the good stuff!

But the other 80% wears me out periodically.

scrubs··on Trump again tries to limit US birthright citizenship with new executive orders
Ok, I stand corrected ... your details add facts, nuances my more emotional post did not entertain.
scrubs··on Trump again tries to limit US birthright citizenship with new executive orders
There's no doubt the gop is cravenly criminal. Yes, there are plenty of democrats who were/are criminal too but the trump administration is a whole other level of corruption by comparison.

Speaking of democrats: how out of touch and how operationally ineffective do you have to be to lose to trump twice? A lot. Like systemic institutional failure bad. Dems are not so corrupt relative to trump, but their level of ineffective clulessness is cosmically big. So let's not get too righteous about the other side.

Washington dc is rotten. Rotten to core. Rotten by us to us. Immigrants, Russia, Iran, China didn't do it. We did it to ourselves. Moreover I have no sympathy for belt way insiders. You poisoned your own institution.

Two more bad consequences are increasing polarization --- swing hard right then left then right --- while deficit, security, interest payments, debt, fairness under the law go worse. Far left has its own set of problems potentially with similar greed in extended power centers

In the near term it puts the wind at the back of populism for the little guy because as of now re: trump draining the swamp? Maga voters sing it with me:

I heard it in a love song. Heard it in a love song. I heard it in a loooovvve song. Can't be wrong (Marshall Tucker band)

Meaning? Of course it's wrong. Wrong by intention and wrong by construction. You were told what you wanted to hear, and you ate it hook line and sinker. How can anybody believe trump could handle and serious responsibility?

Trump is getting his and there's nothing you can do about it for the next two years baring religious level miracles.

scrubs··on Trump again tries to limit US birthright citizenship with new executive orders
Got it - Apologies.
scrubs··on Trump again tries to limit US birthright citizenship with new executive orders
When in the heck is Congress gonna get some backbone and hold this clown accountable. Tariffs and citizenship has been ruled on the Supreme court.

Whether it's those rulings or not deporting immigrats as ordered by judges, this administration does what the hell it wants.

And the cynicism is even in our face. During the citizenship case at scotus, the government's attorney was asked something to the effect of what happens if the executive branch disagrees with the ruling. The response? The executive branch retains it's right to interpret the law as it sees right.

In other works the trump administration follows judge's orders it likes --- claiming it's honorably following the law --- or blows it off as rulings by wacko judge's when it doesnt. Whence the question: why not be a man and just do what you want without the pretense of caring about the law. Answer: assholes always try to hide behind paperwork when they can.

It's like the stormy Daniel's case. Instead of coming home and saying I wanna bed porn stars but I still want to be married and be called husband, father --- take it or leave it -- he delegated the problem to a moron lawyer who took about a 2nd mortgage on his house who then did the paperwork for him. He hid behind an nda, and paperwork pushers. That's a man? No, he's a coward.

When you have no accountability whatsoever delegating your work and blaming foot soldier's is never done! You gotta feel sorry (sarcasm) for someone that stuck on stupid and the idiots who run to it.

Good god! I am sick of this fool, and the do nothing congress.

I give a comprehensive introduction to formal methods without assuming background with a constant emphasis on examples, and using the tool.

scrubs··on C/C++ projects packaged for Zig
The cross compliation story for zig could use an engineering document that the various "hey look at this cool thing i can do with zig" just won't come close to solving.

Sure zig can be a drop in replacement fot clang or gnu but that doesnt engage cross compilation either.

Now suppose you wanna do zig 90% with 10% curl net i/o. Now, here comes the confusing part. If you know curl has a terrific c-api you can install with apt, you can write some zig c-bindings then link curl into your zig executable.

Except ... the curl lib was compiled on something else and the headers you include are for the host os. Now how are you going to cross compile that?

So the fall back position is to see if zig proper has a curl like api (it does) so you can avoid host specific external libs. Now cross compiling zig is cool and guaranteed ... so long as you gound an acceptable replacement.

Or you're going to have to build curl from source using ONLY zig's clang compiler and only zig's provided headers without accidentally allowing any host libs or includes sneaking in.

Having done this in zig 0.16.0 I can report, it took me several hours of reading the std.Build apis to keep everything 100.0% zig only. Ultimately it was simple ... but dang it i cannot shake the feeling zig's apis are here and there cluttered with too much noise. Here, rust is better. The apis tend to be far better documented with an emphasis on minimal + complete. I'll write up my assessment later this year when ive got a decent system first.

Zig has decent+ equivalents for curl, sha256 compression. But take postgres clients as another example. How would you cross compile that?

scrubs··on Ask HN: America turns 250 today. What does it mean to you?
It means we the USA have to grow up.

- Congress is a failed institution

- must get money out of politics including inside trading. I'm will to pay congress more salary for that. Offenses thereafter are criminal offenses

- the days of pretty boys talking atomically small wedge points on complex issues on tv is over. The shadow boxing over cultural issues to get re-elected by constantly winding up dumb voters is over

- attenuation to the center. Corporations and rich individuals have gotten entitled and too safe which by overshooting will create a far stronger far left, which I do not want either

- do what we say we do instead of just talk lovingly about it: justice to treat all equally under the law.

- stop scapegoating foreigners and immigrants: the failed US congress which is us has been the single most damaging thing to this country. They're weakness has let trump run amuck in addition.

scrubs··on You shouldn't copy-paste errors into Claude Code
Good lord! Since when did engineering become making crap then fixing crap as a flex? To just make payroll so some corporate robo moron can make rent? You cannot be in my team. Or my company.

Willy nilly giving an agent more (write) access to figure out a bug ... man you're daydreaming.

scrubs··on Zig's new bitCast semantics and LLVM back end improvements
I sort of agree ... bit casting from an N width integer into an array of ... woah ... that's too far. It's bitcast not byte-cast which has an implied reinterpretation on a same or smaller word size in the cpu.

Once you see that the fact somebody has a u24 in their code is between them and the compiler alone.

As others probably noted byte casting (keeping the same endianess) is what unions are for.

This wasn't a hobby. At least the head engineer and sales persons were constantly stressed by flagging sales and lack of customer acceptance.
