scrubs··on Quantum experiment shows events may have no fixed order
article writes:

"In this setup, a single photon is placed in a superposition of two paths using a beam splitter. Along one path, the photon experiences event A before event B; along the other, it experiences B before A."

So in an article about ico (indefinite causal order) how do we we know that? That's definite causal order (albeit no measurement has taken place yet as photon in super position traverses these paths).

The ico part must be about measurement... later on ... but i find the write up confusing.

Interesting point.

scrubs··on GitHub is once again down
Agree. I do not give a cat's whisker about AI for source control. 0.0%. Notta. Nothing.
scrubs··on Judge Dismisses Lawsuit from X Accusing Advertisers of Boycott Conspiracy
We're in a place where the antagonist is king, and entitled. It's like the walter in "breaking bad" broke out into wider culture and all the maga morons said "oohhh meee tooo" at the same time.

Thank goodness the judge did the right thing ... not everyone is bad ... but the cockroachs are on some kind of rebull stimulant nowadays.

I mean look at it from elon's standpoint: when you're that stuck on stupid he's right and you're wrong. Class it up people! The elon's of the world are getting fed up!

scrubs··on Intel Announces Arc Pro B70 and Arc Pro B65 GPUs
I tried to use SRIOV to virtualize mellanox nics with vlans on redhat Linux. Long story short it did not work. Per Nvidia the os has to also run open switch. This work was on an already complex setup in finance ... so adding open switch was considered too much additionally complexity. This requirement is not something I run across in the docs.

Anybody know better?

scrubs··on So where are all the AI apps?
I mean how else could it be? Some app for Grampa? Junior? The scope of complexity of these problems (which build on tech the viber need not make) is small. There's no serious support dimension or risk.

The last step matters. When I'm talking about "apps" as a professional software engineer, I'm thinking about postgres, big table, ramcloud, dpdk, and applications in finance like a security master or system of record. Those apps have actual customers that for the money they pay demand something in product quality Claude can't do.

You write "products on the market are not solutions to problems." This speaks volumes and not to the good. You then add "tools to make money" which I read as "side hustle." It's has all the salience and import of a disposable tissue ... what you'd expect people to see that as? Bold leadership? C'mon, get real.

scrubs··on The Treasury just declared the U.S. insolvent
Oh c'mon! We know that. Good Lord, if a country's debts were held elsewhere, it'd be the Trump administration trying to repo someone first for Nato money or other some fool reason.

Meanwhile, there are in fact actual, bonafide, tangible problems to financial stupidity you're quip forgot to address.

scrubs··on US to require $15,000 bond to visa recipients from 12 more countries
My wife has a friend which got workers into the US on visas for work. In business since 1990.

Recently at a luncheon the owner mentioned voting for Trump for several reasons also pointing out Biden intended to increase some paperwork costs to some $400.

That company is now out of business.

scrubs··on Iran attack wipes out 17% of Qatar's LNG capacity for up to five years
Well I'm not sure about any of that.

I will say this: a demonstrably better foreign policy to the good for the USA and everybody else is our own energy sufficiency trending into green energy.

Two, Israel and surrounding countries get they're act together themselves. Own you're own liberty. Like Aeschylus' Oresteia the furies are out of control.

Three, the general we in the US who voted for trump, the senate that approved the idiots running the executive branch, must move away from shadow boxing culture warfare. It's a waste. The dems lost twice to trump; they are out of touch. The current slate of Republicans are a sinister combination of wusses, liking trumps broader policies, but executing them so malignly and incompetently it's breaking into systemic destruction from law to prices. Im not a liberal; nobody is owning me with smart ass memes. We are simply failing each other while debt increases, our friends in the world are cold hearted to us (derservedly), while congress will not discharge its constitutional responsibilities.

I think im gonna volunteer to help with 2026 voting. Its our next shot at righting this rotten ship.

scrubs··on Using calculus to do number theory
Loved this. Thanks.
scrubs··on [dead]
a couple of general points:

- the bad guys always eat their own as a "show of strength"

- the trump administration is a joke at bringing cases. Most go no where. Maybe Tucker is fine.

- at some point the west got sick and tired of moody king's, court gossip, and palace intrigue. Hell the French court had guys taking daily stool samples on Louis in this context. In light of this we may well have to independently rediscover from zero all over again how right our forefathers were.

scrubs··on “Design me a highly resilient database”
The interviewer question was adversarial... don't think it puts them in a good light.

More importantly I appreciate the OP for describing lessons learned through this hard experience. I worked in finance: Cassandra is no kind of answer for systems of record

Thanks

scrubs··on Why the US Should Ratify the Congressional Apportionment Amendment
I tend to agree subject to the condition states pay for the ID creation, and provided states mandate this themselves. I agree because some better operational control wouldn't hurt.

The fed has no real business here. Hell, the clowns on the hill can't handle what they should have been doing all along. It's something like 10 years since the last time budgets got done in regular order. Debt, interest on the debt are big problems. The DOD can't pass an audit. We have a war in Iran without congressional authorization. Let's face it: congress is an institutional zero.

Trump has the devil's problem, except even the devil isn't that stupid. He says 2+2=4 (analogously show id). But there's no trust. Moreover trump is replete in attempts to cheat, distort, and corrupt voting. Nakedly so. Therefore, he is his own worst enemy here.

Cheating or errors don't alter elections. Trump et al lost 10s of cases saying otherwise. Trump is all talk. No reality. It must suck to be him.

But you know what would help more? Getting the people who don't vote at all out. Thats some 40ish percent of all Americans. In Brazil you are fined for not voting.

scrubs··on My “grand vision” for Rust
Well ok ... experiment but maybe unlike c++ we could have added N keywords removed M keywords for arguably net-simpler language.

Geez I'd hate to be in rust dev shoes if I can't remove something later when I have a better better min/max. I guess this could be done off main, stable.

scrubs··on Lawmakers Want DoD Investigated for Biblical 'Armageddon' Claims
Correct. I was raised but quit this environment around 15. Peculiar to us American's is the Protestant evangelical Christains who for which the apocalyptic books of Revelations, Daniel is literally true. And thereto every 10-15 years there's a bunch of Armageddon is nigh runs hot in their world.

The last one I suffered through was the era of US v. Communism with a side of AIDs around 1980. Seriously demented nonsense.

And something else again from personal dealings here: the evangelical type is pushy boot strapping God's plan for them into material world through networking, media savvy, outrage, fear and basic organizational money raising to power.

Its strange to watch. Alone they seem to have no bearings or self importance or relevance. To get what they feel they need, they attach to the flag, goverment ie to power in state.

>further away from god

What is that? Some new bit you're working on?

scrubs··on Statement on the comments from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth
I mean, yah. How else could it be? Xerox, GE, IBM (1990 Gerstner) and a zillions of other rock stars fell hard. And had to be over hauled. Thats why continuous improvement is a thing, and why a platonic take on the world was never a thing.
scrubs··on Statement on the comments from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth
It's gotta be thus.

For if you don't the next step is cynicism maximally operationlized: what you're not doing game/political BS to get ahead? What are you? A chump? An idiot?

That kind of stuff spreads like wild fire making corporate America ... something else to put it politely.

Doing the right thing has cost me big time here and there. I don't care. Simultaneously orgs are not all bad; thats another distortion we can do without.

scrubs··on FCC asks stations for "pro-America" programming, like daily Pledge of Allegiance
I agree. Culture wars have distorted, then corrupted a lot to the point where Christains think the state is their personal PR guy, bouncer, and front man ... with an undertone of entitlement to pursue while state is obligated to comply.

To me it smacks of desperation.

Wanna get more adherents? Live your life right, and keep stronger boundaries between personal and private. People will see and respect that.

When things cross, stop already with seeing public comments as an opportunity to evangelize, and blabber on about holiness.

Good example: there's a guy rusty (US state secratary) I believe got caught in the middle of Trump's 2020 election nonsense on the issue of alternative electors. He testified Jan 6 saying cooperation was against his faith and morals whatever the outcome.

Man, I had big respect for his actions and explanation. Short, factual, backed up by action.

scrubs··on FCC asks stations for "pro-America" programming, like daily Pledge of Allegiance
You can thank Billy Grahm, a major US preacher, for that under God [1] in which the GOP and religious right started to get more aligned around 1950.Indeed, Graham could often be seen later with Regaen (US president 1980-88).

I think it's decently accurate to write US founders were religious except:

(1) church private and state public was more of a thing even though the majority shared similar private values

(2) God was away/apart more so in a static background way
