scottshea··on Justice Department Investigating S.&P. Over Mortgage Securities
I often wondered why Moodys, Fitch and S&P got away with the MBS issues. In some ways their failure there made me less concerned about the downgrade of the US debt. I mean, how authoritative could they be?
scottshea··on RIP, legendary programming textbook author Daniel McCracken.
"How can you not love someone who was showing people how to program computers when the only computers were mainframes–and who continued on for so long that he was recently teaching Android programming?"

Indeed, that sort of longevity is impressive!

scottshea··on Test if any website is Blocked in Iran in real-time
My Blogspot blog is blocked which is not exactly a shock. I imagine most Blogspot blogs would be. This is very cool.
scottshea··on Ask HN: Leaving post acquisition?
I do not think you are crazy at all... you were freelance and started the company because you like that sort of thing, presumably, and now that it is more stolid it does not have any appeal. It happens a lot.

That said you will want to handle this professionally so that you do not burn any bridges. You have sold one company and may want to do it again so you will need a reference there.

I remember reading that when Jim Clark wanted to leave SGI (prior to founding Netscape) he spent about 6 months working it out. Obviously your situation is different but you may want to pickup his book Netscape Time and read the sections on his exit from Silicon Graphics to see if there is any advice there that you can use.

scottshea··on Mono: A cure for Microsoft monotheism
I think once the IDE catches up to the level of Visual Studio or the Java stalwarts Eclipse/IntelliJ it will really take off. I usually do my stuff first in VS then bring it up in Monodevelop to finish it off and make sure I am mono safe.
scottshea··on Apple deletes an entire galaxy
Probably did not file the appeal properly either
scottshea··on Ask HN: feedback on our startup project
I think that it has some real possibilities especially in keeping local items relevant. Where the previous poster's argument comes to play though is in content that has no specific geographic tie but rather a conceptual tie (e.g. Linux) etc. However if that is not the type of content you want then maybe it is not a big deal.

I would suggest having someone edit your About page though to clean up some grammatical issues.

scottshea··on Licence stupidity in 2011.
Software licensing in general has always been problematic because people with little idea of how the process works but a great deal of legal ego make statements.
scottshea··on Facebook Bans Advertiser Pushing Google+ Follows
They should probably concentrate more on moving away from mySQL; that albatross around their neck will be much worse in terms of Google+ than someone looking for Followers.
scottshea··on Today a spacecraft orbits an object in the asteroid belt for the first time
With the demise of the Space Shuttle program news like this gives me hope for future exploration. Reminds me of the dark days between the Apollo and Shuttle missions when Viking and Voyager received a lot of attention... hopefully without the hokey Star Trek V'ger movie this time.
scottshea··on In Los Angeles Coders Are Too Scared To Take Risks
LA is a rough place to do start-ups but thankfully better than Phoenix where I am now. After the bubble burst the heart kind of went out of LA. Also some companies sucked so much life out of people that they stopped trying.
scottshea··on How to lockup the in-flight entertainment system on a Boeing 777
You gotta love someone who experiments with these things in public. I do the same thing often getting systems to fall out of their intended use mode.
scottshea··on Astronauts have never explored space
And yet another salvo in the engineers versus astronauts argument.
scottshea··on [dead]
It amazes me that people who generally are computer averse wind up making decisions about the legality of actions with computers.
scottshea··on Nearly Half of All College Grades Are A's
When I was in college I had a professor offer to not put a grade on any of our work. I took him up on it and it was one of the best classes I ever had. I was so much more focused on the feedback rather than the score. I wish more college classes were like that.
scottshea··on Builder Blames Navy as Brand-New Warship Disintegrates
This seems like the classic "bug v user error" argument on a much different plane.

This quote: "“Galvanic corrosion has not been a factor on any Austal-built and fully maintained vessel,” Austal stressed, implying that Independence hasn’t been “fully maintained” by a negligent Navy.

That’s an, ahem, interesting approach to customer relations for America’s newest warship-builder."

...was particularly funny though.

scottshea··on Larry Page: If we can't win on quality, we shouldn't win at all.
Almost the complete opposite of a company I worked at in the late 90s where the CEO would say things like "If rover will eat I will feed him" (meaning if the customer buys the schlock we're selling who cares what you think) and "Quality Assurance is an impediment to revenue".
scottshea··on Autism and Agile Software Development; pt 2
That is horrible. I imagine he has a hard time being assertive with the dev lead too.
scottshea··on Theory suggests wrinkling of wet digits evolved for a reason
I wonder when my revulsion at touching paper or other skin with wrinkled fingers came into play?
