scottmcdot··on Exercise is good for you. But what's the right amount?
3 × 1.01⁵² = 5.03 hours per week at the end of a year if you did 1% more than you did last week if you're already doing three hours a week.
scottmcdot··on JetZero
Another pointless "up to x% better" specification.
scottmcdot··on It's getting harder to focus every day
I've started to go stand in my front yard and just watch the world go by for 15 minutes or so and if I do it around dinner time then I can get away without looking weird as it's perfectly normal to wait uber eats this way.
scottmcdot··on I Stored a Website in a Favicon
Which bit? The short sentences?
scottmcdot··on What old technology do you still use regularly?
Also love my muhle safety razor. Also prefer rim brakes over disc on my bicycles. Steel frame bikes. Drive a 2001 corolla. Use a denon 2308 avr amp from 2008. Run hdmi from mini pc into a smart TV that's never seen WiFi or the internet. Run optical from TV into the avr, 3.1 setup. No soundbar. No stream. Everything simple and reliable.
scottmcdot··on Ask HN: What do you do while your agent works?
Stare at the wall and think about what I'm actually solving.
scottmcdot··on Cats Lock – keyboard lock for cat people
What's next, Dog Pause?
scottmcdot··on Using public GitHub code to find local talent (repo hunting)
That's unfortunate to hear. This has allowed me to connect with talent that has otherwise not been given the opportunity to showcase their skills. At the scale I'm doing it it's pretty harmless but can see how it can be easily exploited.
scottmcdot··on Schedule tasks on the web
Me too. It doesn't have ability to alert only on true positive. I has to also alert on true negative. So dumb
scottmcdot··on LLMs predict my coffee
Slightly related, I was using an LLM to help me understand whether I should add milk to my coffee before walking to my table or when I get to my table (objective to maximise coffee temperature at the point drinking). Turns out it's best to add the milk immediately when the coffee is made because the rate of cooling is higher at higher temperatures.
scottmcdot··on LotusNotes
I see lots of em dash in this article.
scottmcdot··on The New Collabora Office for Desktop
Working with data I need to be objective, and while thinking objectively I prefer brutal/minimal ist UIs
scottmcdot··on Ask HN: Share your personal website

scottmcdot··on Postal Arbitrage
Is there a simple way to search for everything and order by price descending? I'm in Australia so those items aren't much use.
scottmcdot··on Linux is good now
Same! I made a comment earlier that it's now very easy to navigate bash with guidance from ChatGPT.
scottmcdot··on Linux is good now
With LLMs it's now much easier to navigate Linux and bash. Definitely happy with Linux Mint as a Windows alternative.
scottmcdot··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2026?
I've just started managing a team and would like to develop my EQ and think more before I speak.
scottmcdot··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2026?
I hired my wife one too. She's really enjoying it [1] [1] www.lacasitaspanishschool.com.au
scottmcdot··on Show HN: SQLite Online – 11 years of solo development, 11K daily users
Thanks for tool! I've been using this for conducting interviews.
scottmcdot··on Austria's armed forces switch to LibreOffice
No note [1] of programming a semi-automatic bullet feature.

scottmcdot··on Show HN: Weather Watching
Yes please, would love this. Feel free to email me from profile. Thanks
scottmcdot··on Radio Garden
A feature I've requested (no response, paid membership) is to hide radio stations. This is because I like to trial each radio station in a region before I favourite it. It's difficult to keep track of which station I've trialled if there's no way to hide them or leave a note on them. Hiding them from the map would be most effective.
scottmcdot··on Ask HN: What are you currently trying to figure out?
How to build a segmentation model based on a sample of data that needs to be representative of the population.
scottmcdot··on It is as if you were on your phone
Whenever I'm waiting for the bus or waiting for anything, I love to people watch (while not making anyone uncomfortable). People are so interesting!
scottmcdot··on Ask HN: What's the best thing you've watched this year?
Bald and Bankrupt's recent coverage of the situation in Syria.
scottmcdot··on Ask HN: What are you working on (September 2024)?
Can I ask where you host a personal website like this?
scottmcdot··on Show HN: PDF to MD by LLMs – Extract Text/Tables/Image Descriptives by GPT4o
Does it do image to MD too?
scottmcdot··on Rearchiving 2M hours of digital radio, a comprehensive process
How can we listen to radio from the 90s?
scottmcdot··on Ask HN: Why can't I subscribe to Google One Basic ($2.49 /month)?
It seems you need to first go with the 5 TB and then downgrade. Dark pattern! https://imgur.com/a/BI7VO4V
scottmcdot··on Show HN: Safe Routes. real time turbulence data, ML predictions with an iPad
Out of curiosity, was this product a result of a company 'pivot' after the Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 turbulence incident?
