So, last weekend I decided to give the new ChatGPT API a spin, and I came up with a seriously fun project. I decided to use ChatGPT to come up with book pitches, and I created a website called WouldYouRead.com to showcase them.
Now, I don't know about you, but I barely have enough time in the day to sit down and read. But even so, I absolutely love books, and I'm a sucker for a great back-of-the-book pitch. So, I decided to combine a bunch of AI prompts that I had been working on, and in less than 10 hours of coding, I had a working concept up and running.
Okay, maybe I spent a bit more time than I should have deciding on the perfect presentation style, but I ended up using a similar "typing" style to ChatGPT, and it looks amazing. And now, thanks to the incredible power of ChatGPT, WouldYouRead.com is creating about 120 book pitches every day.
I have a lot of UI work to do on it, but my goal was to get it launched before the end of the weekend and that was a success!
Let me know what you think!
Since 2020 was kicking me butt (and probably others as well) I decided to be pretty strict on what I spent so I ignored the whole crypto space ... fast forward to 2021 and, well ... what?
So here is a website I created to make me even more depressed.
You can select from about 15-20 different cryptocurrencies, say if you wanted to invest daily, weekly, or monthly in them ... then the website does its magic to show you what you could have possibly earned.
It doesn't take into account trading fees, etc. but gives you an idea of what could have been.
I quickly threw this website together today so if you have any design feedback please let me hear it.
I came up with this quick online tool since I kept formatting the URL format / structure for Twitter's Retweet URL.
I've been working on a lot of projects and having the ability for someone to "click to retweet" has simplified my ability to add tweet amplification to launches.
(and yes, I know the name is really close to another brand but I needed something straightforward that I could remember)
I quietly launched this new project last night for the selfish reason of needing an easy way to save some of my favorite design mocks / prototypes I've found on Twitter.
Then I realized other people might be interested in it so I thought I'd share it here.
If you want to get a design added to the website, just @DesignFavorites on Twitter to the design and I can work to get it added.
With so much maker news happening on a daily basis it is challenging to keep up to date.
Our hope is that MD solves that problem.
Some of the topics MD will cover:
Project updates such as financials, #OpenStartup data, acquisitions, etc. Project Launches ️ Maker Blog Posts
Let me know if there is any other areas of the maker-verse you'd like us to highlight.
trying to think of a way to do something like
https://www.emojifs.com/️🆒 where people can place the emojis in the URL and it will generate the GIF ... just not sure how supported emojis in URLs are.
I'm calling this one of my ugliest MVPs I've ever launched, sorry. I really launched this as a way for me to easily take a script coded by Pieter Levels and shared on Twitter (https://twitter.com/levelsio/status/1060282680338636801) to create GIFs from Emojis and make an easy to use form for myself.
So far, what do you think?
Was debating on the "next account please" button. Put it in there at the beginning just to help slow down the speed of unfollows. More of "I don't want Twitter to ban you" feature.
#2 ... Will see what I can do with that.
Thanks.
UNFOLLOW.xyz started as a way for me to take control (and clean up) who I follow on Twitter, but then realized that is a little bit selfish of me so I decided to open it up to everyone.
As you can see by its amazing design, I launched this in a very VERY MVP state.
Right now there is only one tool online. Basically wanting to see if this might be useful for Twitter users, and if so, I'll be releasing more and more tools.
Let me know your thoughts.
Going to brainstorm it a little bit.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or some "how the F did I miss that" UX/UI design aspects that, well, I missed.
When I'm developing my side-projects I am always in need of placeholder data (images, avatars, text, etc) but when it came to hyperlinks, I always defaulted to using a hashtag ("#").
Why? Because it was the shortest and simplest value for me to enter into the HREF.
So for years I've been using # as my placeholder hyperlink in all my side-projects but then had an "aha moment" when I started working on a project that I needed to test referral information.
The project needed to detect both referral-in-and-out information which isn't a huge coding lift but it does get somewhat messy with all the echo, print, etc statements for testing. This was a pain point I needed to solve.
Enter DummyLink.xyz.
In its simplest form, Dummy Link allows you to create a page on our website that will display referral and browser information for links clicking in AND create a clickable link out to the URL so you can test referral information on your server.
Wow ... that's a mouthful to even type!
I launched the website on March 1st and so far have 7 interviews online and finishing up another 10.
My hope is that I'll be able to release 3-5 new interviews per week.
Coming Soon - On my list Volume - On my list now! Decreasing Trade Volume - any suggestions on how to notate it?
WTF Did I Build It: Honestly, for selfish reasons. I'm in tons of crypto private chats and follow a good number of crypto Twitter people, and on a daily basis would see suggested cryptocurrencies to look into. Problem is that not all coins / tokens are available on every exchange and finding out this information was time consuming. Thus I created WTBC.
WTBC is straight and to the point. Enter in the cryptocurrency name or symbol and the website will spit out all the exchanges it is currently available on.
Again, since this really was for my personal use I tried to make the design as simple (and plain) as possible.
But now I'm turning to the HN community to help me take my selfish personal project to the next level. What can I do to improve WTBC that would make it easier for you to use?
This project started as a simple Google Spreadsheet but it was missing something.
Enter my "72 hours or less" launch challenge I gave myself ... over a month ago.
Let me know your thoughts and I'll keep this thread updated as I go through all the comments.
Also if I'm missing any event or conferences, just leave it in the comments and I'll them added ASAP.
Right now doing this all manually makes it difficult to scale, but I do think this can become a very valuable resource.
Counting this is the "alpha" release of the website.
Any thoughts? Suggestions?
Prior to launching BLD, when I'd come across a tool I'd bookmark it in Chrome. Problem was I had so many tools bookmarked that I couldn't really remember which tool did what.
I ended up building BLD to solve that issue so I could easily categorize and screenshot each tool so when I needed it I could find it fast.
After running this locally on my computer I thought I'd share it with others.
Thus BLD was soft-launched late last night at the tail-end of a long coding session.
Let me know what you think.
