Prove it?

Feel free to disagree, but you will be wrong.

This is just wishful thinking.

Building the product was never the hard part. Getting it in front of people is. That will continue to be true, except the build stage will be even easier.

I climbed out of the code trenches years ago - I have multiple small companies, I'll be fine.

And yes, they both have moats that will take AI at least 5 years to erode, at which point I'll just retire.

Regarding the dog shit code comment: this is the problem with your whole line of thinking. Customers don't care if the code is dog shit. They care if they get value from the product.

As I mentioned, there will still be some demand for devs who code by hand, similar to how theres still demand for blacksmiths who make ornamental weapons.

Because no one is going to hire developers who write code by hand, apart from a few niches. For the same reason that no one hires a courier who delivers by horse anymore, or a miller who uses windmills to grind their grain, or a cooper who continues to use wooden staves and iron hoops instead of forming plastic or metal containers, or...

Codeberg are going to have issues in the future when all code is AI generated (except for artisanal code of course, written for the love of the craft but not to achieve anything of merit).
schnebbau··on Show HN: Make cursed fonts like Times New Bastard
Well today I learned corner-shape is a CSS property now.
schnebbau··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta

Yikes. I thought this was America.

schnebbau··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
> The human body really was never supposed to go over 50

As I get older I'm beginning to align with this.

When you're younger you think everything is going to be great until you die from a short illness at the average age of 79. Wrong. In my cohort of friends, notable age-related degradation started appearing in our late-30s/early 40s, even in the fit ones who stayed active.

schnebbau··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
No, it just sounds like a troll.
schnebbau··on Among European Companies That Use a CDN, Nearly 9 in 10 Use Cloudflare
Yeah because it's priced well and it works. It's a no-brainer. (Also if it does go down, well so has everyone else so no big deal)

Also in this list of GOATed companies: Tailscale, Ubiquiti.

schnebbau··on Codex outage
I think the most concerning thing we discovered here is when the agents go down, work completely stops.
schnebbau··on ChatGPT outage – Resolved
WE'RE BACK BABY! Work can now resume.
schnebbau··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
Well, time to end the day here I guess.
schnebbau··on SteamdDB Joins Nexus Mods
This uses a load of private Steam API endpoints to work, and I think Valve has just allowed that because it's a loved community project.

Maybe they'll change their minds when NM tries to monetize it. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they just create their own first-party version, then nuke this one.

schnebbau··on Stripe acquires Clerky
> Stripe now controls all of the early incorporation infrastructure now. This feels deeply problematic.

Lol, no.

Firstbase, Doola, Capbase. Not to mention all the old school cos that will help you incorporate in their state.

For you.
schnebbau··on I used to be excited about new tech, but I rarely am anymore
Agreed. He's just old. He's been around the block and seen new tech releases a million times.

It's still exciting (and has always been) for the young'uns.

schnebbau··on I requested a copy of my data from McDonald’s loyalty program
That seems fair though?

If my diet is the cause of a medical issue, then I'm the one at fault.

Car insurance should cost more if I'm more likely to claim, that's how insurance works.

This just sounds like you don't want data to force you to be honest.

schnebbau··on I requested a copy of my data from McDonald’s loyalty program
> which they can do bad or immoral things

Such as...? Lure me into a trap with a 10-piece spicy mcnugget that they know I can't resist?

schnebbau··on Stateless MCP has recaptured my interest
MCP is a stupid term, it makes no obvious sense what it does or what its for.

I propose AII - AI Interface. Lets make it happen!

schnebbau··on AI doesn't generate working products, that's still your job
I meant that no-one writes assembly anymore. I wasn't around when that transition happened, but I bet there were the same "this high-level language is compiling to inefficient code, it's useless" comments.
schnebbau··on AI doesn't generate working products, that's still your job
This has happened to my side project too. There's so much going on in the code now that I can't possibly grok it to make changes safely by myself any more. But I think that's OK. Because I don't have to grok it anymore.

I've been crafting beautiful code for almost 20 years - that itch is scratched. Now I just want to be productive and build cool stuff. AI is helping me make a better end-product in a fraction of the time. As long as codex understands what's going on in the ball of spaghetti, there's no problem. Sure - if I was working in enterprise then this is no good. But for personal projects and small indie shops, it's fine.

AI is just a new layer on top of the stack now. In the same way high-level languages are a layer on top of writing machine code manually. You just need to let go.

schnebbau··on Claude Opus 5
> We're all sacrificing great things

Oh please.

> Unethically sourced data

Is that a great sacrifice?

> data centers that cause droughts

That's nonsense.

> normal people can't afford to buy RAM anymore

Lol? Another great sacrifice?

This isn't a healthy or sensible way to think.

schnebbau··on OpenAI and Hugging Face address security incident during model evaluation
Recently, as part of the task Codex was working on for me, it needed to access a website behind a Cloudflare turnstile. It tried a regular scrape and failed. Then it found some code in my project for a proxy, which it isolated and repurposed to interact with the site it needed to scrape.

I thought that was cool.

schnebbau··on Airport Simulator
This is cool. What is it built with?
schnebbau··on Gleam Is Now on Tangled
Smashly and GoFlam have merged.

Grimbl and Sporkify are joining forces.

GetSocks is now on Zoobazoop.

schnebbau··on Write code like a human will maintain it
Yes, this resonates. I have noticed things slow down over time. But fortunately my app will never grow that big so I don't think it will be an issue.

The solution, as you say, is probably to break it down into isolated sub-components that are only aware of each other's APIs and nothing more.
