satya71··on Crypto Capture of Foreign Aid
World Bank doesn’t typically give money to people. They fund development projects.
satya71··on The new Firefox design is here
Thanks for the config. To their credit the UI change is instant. I double clicked a few times to find out why the old UI looks better.

The old UI has less visual noise (at least dark mode on Windows). The new theme has random highlights and high-contrast lines everywhere that draw attention to the browser UI. I want the browser to fade into the background not stand out.

satya71··on Tell HN: iOS 27's Connectivity Assist subverts DNS level adblocking
Luckily you can turn it off

> Connectivity Assist improves your connection by using cellular data when this Wi-Fi network is unreliable or slow. If you're concerned about cellular data usage or you use an ad blocker, you may want to turn this off.

satya71··on Ask HN: Lots of sign ups but people not completing onboarding
You don’t give enough details to help diagnose the problem. But if you’re looking for great insights on every stage of startup The SaaS Playbook [1] is very good

satya71··on Ask HN: Any true alternatives to electron JavaScript?
I had good luck with Avalonia UI and F#. I don’t understand either, but Claude nailed it.
satya71··on The shingles vaccine may reduce the risk of dementia
TL;DR Shingles vaccines reduces chances of dementia by 20%. Yet, most countries health systems only look at the upfront cost of ~$300 and don’t recommend for all who could benefit.
satya71··on Hospital at centre of child HIV outbreak caught reusing syringes in Pakistan
This is common practice in much of developed world. Long ago, they used to have re-usable glass syringes that could be sterilized. Unfortunately, people switched to disposable syringes. The unit costs are...high in the US, unreasonable in developing countries.

It's not just this hospital, it's widespread ([1] report 38%)

satya71··on Astral to Join OpenAI
Fortunately, there are competing LSPs of reasonable quality now. I'm using pyrefly. Not sure if ty/ruff have one too.
satya71··on The Appalling Stupidity of Spotify's AI DJ
Indeed Apple Music Classical or Idagio. Spotify has never cared for classical, because the market is too small for them to bother.
satya71··on GitHub is down again
I use git town. Fits my brain a lot better.
satya71··on Reverse engineering a $1B Legal AI tool exposed 100k+ confidential files
I had a look at some of FileVine's output, and I can say I'm not surprised. This is not an organization that prizes engineering at all.
satya71··on Pyscripter – Open-source Python IDE written in Delphi
A blast from the past! Pyscripter was definitely a top contender back in Python 2.3 days. Not sure when I stopped using it and why. Seems to be actively maintained. Will have to try again.
satya71··on Show HN: Modshim – A new alternative to monkey-patching in Python
This is a nice system. I wonder if modshim can be used to or extended to do hot reload.
satya71··on The time bomb in the tax code that's fueling mass tech layoffs
Yes, but businesses operate on cash, not tax credits.
satya71··on Ask HN: Senior SaaS developer wanting to pivot
Why do you want to switch?
satya71··on Show HN: GitQuill – free cross-platform GUI for Git, inspired by GitKraken
Interesting. I've been missing `svn changelist` feature in Git. GitButler calls it virtual branches. Indispensable feature. Going to try it out.
satya71··on Scientists found a way to make sound travel in only one direction
This seems to be similar to a microwave circulator. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circulator
satya71··on Ask HN: What is the most expensive off-the-shelf software you have seen?
Most semiconductor EDA software cost > $10k per seat, sometimes > $100k per seat.
satya71··on Ask HN: Should we bring software dev in-house?
This seems like the story in "The Phoenix Project". If the outsourced software is critical to your operations, it seems it should be brought in-house. Software design is best done when the feedback loop is very tight. It never is with outsourced software.

As for how to go about building a team, you are better placed than I am to figure it out. Probably start with a small team with the most critical bits and build from there.

satya71··on Ask HN: Navigating a strategic acquisition as single bootstrapped founder
Suggest getting a sell-side agent. They do that everyday and know the nuances. I know Einar as another poster suggested.
satya71··on Ask HN: What makes you disable your adblocker?
ethicalads.io seems totally fine to me. I think there was another one similar to it. Those are unblocked for me.
satya71··on Ask HN: One-person companies—how do you manage it all and stay sane?
Here's the advice I've gotten:

1. Hire a VA for mundane stuff.

2. Hire a coach to fill in your blind spots.

3. Hire the most senior people you can.

satya71··on Ask HN: Search engine ranking monitoring tool?
Rank Tracker https://ranktracker.app/
satya71··on Double-swiping rewards card led to free gas for months and felony theft charge
Likely, 28000 is mostly investigation costs, not the actual cost of gas.
satya71··on Target launches paid membership program as it chases new revenue streams
Isn't this just renaming Shipt as Target Circle 360?
satya71··on Meat–rice: grain with added muscles beefs up protein

satya71··on Potential Perturbation of the Ionosphere by Megaconstellations
Does this mean we can now expect stellar SW radio reception around the world?
satya71··on A hacked Microsoft test account was assigned admin privileges
But most auth implementations don’t bother checking it.
satya71··on Ask HN: Are height adjustable desks worth it?
For shorter people, the some height adjustable desks are the only ones that are low enough for good ergonomics. Standard desks in the US are too tall for a large portion of the population.
