sarah-robiin··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
I'm turning ~10 years of accumulated software infrastructure into a reusable software production platform.

The stack spans a lightweight PHP framework, application kernel, Preact UI layer, generic business modules, deployment/provisioning and IaC. The rule has always been: solve recurring problems once, move them to the lowest sensible reusable layer, and let every app inherit the result.

PentaPaper is the main commercial product on top. The interesting part now is that new apps increasingly need mostly domain logic + UX, while AI coding works exceptionally well because agents operate inside fixed conventions instead of inventing architecture from scratch.

I'm now figuring out whether this can become a real software foundry/platform business rather than just a very elaborate internal stack.

sarah-robiin··on Ask HN: Alternatives to GitHub
Works well and is pretty straightforward.

Just set up a CI pipeline for PHP projects with a forgejo runner last week. Tried many approaches, ended up with a simple debian VM. Runner works well with docker images inside the VM, quite a flexible setup. Found this easier and better than my last tries a few years ago with gitlab, which always felt quite bloated.

I also published a blog post today about this whole journey: https://sarah-robin.com/blog/we-just-wanted-to-deploy-a-webs...

I'm working on touching more grass, virtually...

Willing to relocate: Not currently, open to US/EU collaboration and occasional travel later

Technologies: PHP, JS ES6, React/Preact, HTML/CSS/SCSS, Linux, MySQL/MariaDB, APIs, SaaS/web architecture, automation, AI-assisted workflows, and a lot more stuff I'm less experienced with.

Founder / strategic systems advisor with ~15+ years of hands-on experience across web dev, Linux infra, SaaS/product architecture, automation, and digital strategy. I'm strongest in messy founder-led or early-stage contexts where product, technology, positioning, AI, infrastructure, and business priorities overlap.

I'm looking for remote advisory or strategic contract engagements: product/technical strategy, architecture reviews, AI/workflow opportunity mapping, positioning/GTM clarity, founder decision support, technical due diligence, or async strategic memos.

I can still go deep technically when needed, but the best fit is not "extra developer capacity". It is helping founders and teams think more clearly, make better decisions, reduce strategic noise, and turn complex context into a concrete path forward.

sarah-robiin··on The AV2 Video Standard Has Released (Final v1.0 Specification)
AV1 already was a big leap toward efficient and open video formats. I'm awaiting AV2 since a long time.

Sure it'll take a while since it's implemented in chips and hardware so we got efficient and fast hardware encoding/decoding.

But a ~25% higher efficiency sounds very promising in times of increasing storage prices and chip crises.

sarah-robiin··on Tvheadend: Self-Hosted IPTV Server
I use it since countless years. Works very reliable, supports all kind of complex configurations, best way of receiving OTA TV and radio.

Just the ext.js UI is a bit dated and buggy, but it works. And we still got TvhClient on mobile...

Also great integration into Kodi and Jellyfin. Or simply use custom hook scripts or its API.
