sans_souse··on First recording of a dying human brain shows waves similar to memory flashbacks (2022)
Hmm is it worth the read? edit: coming from someone who overall was mildly fond of Angels and Demons and would consider that as the bar for worthwhile reading

sans_souse··on Google Pixel's most dangerous bug: failing to call 911
It's ok guys, I'm on it. I filed a support ticket with Google a couple years ago, and I'm sure they are just busy and will get back to me soon. I am a paid subscriber, after all.
sans_souse··on Surveillance data challenges what we thought we knew about location tracking
Late on this but thanks I'll check it out
sans_souse··on Surveillance data challenges what we thought we knew about location tracking
How do you think that works with cops and body cams? I am genuinely asking what you think here. I would guess probably most turn them off but maybe not all do. Why? Because all that stuff is irrelevant in the case the records are checked in the first place.

If you're job is to soft thru evidence for legal process, are you watching the cop take a leak? You only care about rhe specific time frame of the incident in question. In fact you're jurisdiction is only within some narrow time frame so you'd have no business watching anything outside of that.

That's my point.

sans_souse··on First convex polyhedron found that can't pass through itself
Actually, perhaps you're onto something there - didn't Rupert's original conjecture specify polyhedron dice? Perhaps symmetry is one of the requirements for the law..
sans_souse··on Alaska Airlines' statement on IT outage
How exactly does an IT outage occur yet not be linked to any "other events?"

Can we really use the phrase "IT outage" as if it's an explaination in and of itself?

sans_souse··on Armed police swarm student after AI mistakes bag of Doritos for a weapon
I thought on first glance the source was from doritos.com

That would have been bold

sans_souse··on Has your iPhone typing accuracy been getting worse? This video may vindicate you
I have 4 Android devices I still use regularly, 2 OP7 Pro's, a Samsung S20 5G and a Pixel 7. That's 3 different OS's and all using most recent updated play store versions of gBoard. I've noticed in the past month or so, all my devices seem less precise when typing, and I know it's not just me.

Just my observations from the Android side of things.

sans_souse··on Federal shutdown deals blow to hobbled cybersecurity agency
(yet another) Perfect Storm scenario playing out. This article points out the timing of the CISA furloughs and their coinciding with the expiration and non-renewal of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act.
sans_souse··on StageConnect: Behringer protocol is open source
Behringer will always hold a special place in my heart.
sans_souse··on Surveillance data challenges what we thought we knew about location tracking
I know this isn't a popular stance but in the present age of surveillance, mandated 24/7 body cams on every civilian might actually not be such a bad thing so long as you aren't a bad person. [edit] ideal world, and all of that et al
sans_souse··on Ryanair flight landed at Manchester airport with six minutes of fuel left
Just started reading the linked text after reading your comment and I agree, this is high quality education, and enjoyable. It's an art, really. Thank you for sharing your work and please keep it up.

Just a thought I had while reading your introduction: this is applicable even to running a successful business model. I'm honestly having trouble even putting it into words, but you have my analytical mind going now at a very late hour... Thanks!

agree, and this is what I've heard in general of the post shutdown landscape
sans_souse··on I played 1k hands of online poker and built a web app with Cursor AI
When I left (or, got shut out, so to speak) in 2011 the games were getting a lot tougher, less big fish and more reg on reg with marginal if any edge, where you're essentially just paying the rake (-%rakeback).
sans_souse··on I played 1k hands of online poker and built a web app with Cursor AI
Cool write up. I played online professionally for the year leading up to the big online shutdown. AMA, always love talking poker strategy.

Is Simple Gallery known to do anything shady now, behind the scenes? I had no idea it was sold either, and it's been my go to gallery app on all my devices for a long time. Just curious.
sans_souse··on Show HN: The text disappears when you screenshot it
Not sure what you mean - I can screenshot it freely that's not the point the point is if you look then at the screenshot you cant discern the text because its a single frame now
sans_souse··on Bosch Unveils New Brake Technology
I was thinking about exactly this possibility just a few weeks ago. Always nice to see a new, innovative technology that allows higher granularity in control, without pushing additional bloat or further limiting other areas of user controls..

To anyone wondering this essentially turns your brake pedal into a gas-like brake pedal.

Now what I'm wondering is, can we tie this all to the brake-light brightness?

sans_souse··on Your First Call After You Shoot Someone
Plot twist: the author himself, having just purchased SHIELD Insurance and graduating "AR-15 Markmanship FUNdamentals" goes on a "defensive shooting rampage".

Ok, I say this tongue-in-cheek, but it's plausible and that's the point. There's a lot of wrong here in this insurance being allowed to exist, and I'd only add in along with the author's points how this "murder insurance" opens up a can of Murphy's Law that we clearly don't need right now.

sans_souse··on Immaculate CONSTELLATION document released in Nov 2024 [pdf]
In light of the recent UAP video release, I did some searching and came across this document. It's honestly pretty wild stuff and worth the read.
