strato.de are very good too, and have very similar offerings to hetzner: I've been using them myself for years. However, they require payment by German domestic bank transfer, and the contracts are a little harder to terminate. I'd try hetzner the next time.

She's pretty fast to dismiss Shen.

Emacs support for multiple cursors is also available: https://github.com/magnars/multiple-cursors.el

sanityinc··on Emacs packages for programmers
There are various insecurities in the existing package ecosphere; e.g., provided a package X does not currently exist on Marmalade, anyone can upload a possibly-doctored version of X and make it available for installation. There's often no way to involve the upstream author directly, because many of them don't use or care about ELPA, and many are simply unresponsive.

A robust process for auditing packages is going to be hard to establish. In practice most developers seem to be happy to install any and all updates as long as they're reasonably sure they came from the original author. By using verified upstream source repositories both el-get and MELPA ensure this is the case, as long as one steers clear of libraries originating from the EmacsWiki.

MELPA co-maintainer here. MELPA builds packages from source, so once there's a recipe, there's no need for package developers to prepare or upload new package files -- the packages just appear automatically on MELPA soon after the source code is updated.
sanityinc··on Runit For Ruby And Everything Else
runit's a wonderful tool. Those interested in using it with ruby might want to take a look at the bunch of configurable runit services I use to reliably run several busy Rails sites: https://github.com/purcell/rails-runit

I also wrote an introduction to runit's process supervision scheme here: http://www.sanityinc.com/articles/init-scripts-considered-ha...

sanityinc··on Solarized - Color scheme for vim, mutt, terminal emulators
After investigating this (and raising the aforementioned Emacs bug), I've concluded that sRGB hex colors - as used by Ethan - are simply not the right hex colors to enter in Emacs in order to get the desired results. Instead, Emacs apparently works with Generic RGB values, and after some laborious conversion calculations in Apple's "ColorSync Utility", I got the right results:

The color fix will probably get into sellout's repo, so interested parties should prefer that one over mine.

I made a similar port, with some different faces and a slightly different feel:

https://github.com/purcell/color-theme-sanityinc-solarized

(Using the latest Emacs under OS X, it suffers from the same color issues mentioned elsewhere in this comment thread, but hopefully Emacs will soon get fixed up accordingly.)

Cocoa Emacs doesn't seem to handle gamma at all; the color you set isn't the color you get. I just raised an emacs bug here: http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=8402
