sandis··on Show HN: Expensive Chat – Pay one cent per letter
Seems it has been taken down? Now it only returns three dots.
sandis··on TablePlus – Native GUI tool for relational databases (2018)
Replaced Postico with TablePlus, mainly because needed to access MySQL databases too, and Redis support doesn't hurt. Good UI, frequent updates and the free version isn't too limiting.

CCC talk on Curiosity rover onboard computers, for those interested - https://media.ccc.de/v/35c3-9783-the_mars_rover_on-board_com... (different rover, different CPU - RAD750 instead of RAD6000 that's on Opportunity)

sandis··on My Top Free Font Superfamilies
Would’ve helped to include screenshots of the typefaces.
sandis··on Ask HN: What's your favorite way of getting a web app up quickly in 2018?
That's pretty cool! Literally took me 10 seconds to sign up and deploy the sample function.

That's sad to hear. Has to be my favorite publication. I subscribe to the digital edition, and, while visiting Los Angeles, bought a print copy at Barnes & Noble. I did ask whether they carry older issues and unfortunately the answer was no.
sandis··on iPad 9.7‑inch
Surface Pro 4 still has a range of issues that makes for a frustrating use in the tablet mode. The major one being on-screen keyboard randomly not showing up a lot of times when you focus on an input field in a browser or some other application, and with no easy way to summon it manually. The fact that these issues happen with a MS OS running on a MS device - and not some OEM's - does not inspire trust in other Windows tablets either.
sandis··on Pebble's next step
> Warranty support is no longer available for Pebble watches.

That's not very nice.

sandis··on Ask HN: GUI Git client for macOS recommendations
I recently switched to Fork [1] after seeing it on HN and so far am liking it. It's currently in beta and is actively being developed.

sandis··on Behind the Pixel: Google’s First Real Threat to Apple’s iPhone
Specs page [1] states 2 years for OS updates and 3 for security patches, so not even close.

"The video appears to show SpaceX's new rocket — the BFR, or "Big Fucking Rocket" — as well as the company's interplanetary spaceship — the BFS, or "Big Fucking Spaceship.""

sandis··on Ask HN: Cheap dedicated hosting options for side projects
When was that? Just curious, because I did see some bad reviews before deciding to go with Delimiter, but also kept hearing that things have improved in recent years. Online.net (specifically their Scaleway brand) I've been happy with as well. Their support has a quick turnaround, but answers have been unrelated to what I've been asking.
sandis··on Ask HN: Cheap dedicated hosting options for side projects
I've been quite happy with Delimiter [1]. Cheap, but relatively beefy dedicated servers and S3-compatible object storage. You can use promo code B6NFT66YU7ZN to get 6% off in perpetuity (disclaimer: that's my affiliate code).

sandis··on Trent Reznor says YouTube is “built on the backs of free, stolen content”
Doesn't make it any less true
sandis··on Introducing Safari Technology Preview
While it was pretty bad, I remember Safari for Windows rendering text much nicer than any Windows browser (or app) at the time - particularly, the font smoothing. I recall using Win Safari to take "marketing" screenshots of an web app.
sandis··on The YC Fellowship and Stripe Atlas
Setting up a company in the UK - sure. Opening a business bank account when you're not a resident - nowhere nearly as easy.

sandis··on IntelliJ IDEA 15 Released, Adds Kotlin to the Family of Supported JVM Languages
Don't the equivalent IntelliJ plug-in updates land only a good while after the individual products get the new features?
sandis··on AWS Device Farm adds support for iOS
> a flat monthly fee of $250 per device.

That's a bit steep? You could recoup any iOS device in <= 3 months.

sandis··on Ask HN: How Do You Make the Most of Your Commute?
As a note: A lot of people usually recommend "This Week In Startups" or TWIS, but I find it to be an absolutely reprehensible show. It's just the Jason.
sandis··on Ask HN: How Do You Make the Most of Your Commute?
By not doing the commute. I know, it's not always an option. Podcasts that keep your attention ("Mixergy" and "Startups for the Rest of Us" are the ones that do it for me) or some learning on the side (say Coursera courses) will keep you occupied.
sandis··on Revised and much faster, run your own high-end cloud gaming service on EC2
I'd like to chat about it. I've been looking for a service like that and have tried the AWS GPU instance approach as well. My email is on my profile.

sandis··on Libraries – Open Source Discovery Service
I was about to start working on an identical tool as my side-project.

Couple of thoughts:

* Devise a "pagerank for packages" algorithm - number of Github stars, how actively they're maintained, number of issues/contributors/etc.

* For monetization offer a service similar to https://www.versioneye.com (found out about them on HN as well, after I had the idea). You're going to crawl the packages either way.

Best of luck!
