sandebert··on Jabra: we know our Bluetooth headsets don’t work with laptops
"wire fraud"

I see what you did there.

sandebert··on Rough sleeping has been almost eradicated in Helsinki
As a representative for Sweden, I can say this is something we had problems understanding also.
sandebert··on Without Fail: Podcast with people who did hard things; what worked, what didn't?
This is a brand new podcast from Gimlet Media, where Alex Blumberg talk to people who have done hard things.

I've listened to the first four episodes, and I'm hooked. These episodes Alex talked to Andrew Mason (Groupon founder), Sophia Amoruso (Nasty Gal founder) and Nina Jacobson (Very Successful Movie Producer, of Hunger Games, Crazy Rich Asians etc fame).

They have all been very open and frank about their journey, and I found it really interesting to listen to them. So I thought this might also be interesting to the HN crowd. Recommended!

sandebert··on Solving Sol
Sorry, I don't have anything substantial to add. Just that I love Sol's art and got all giddy seeing this!
sandebert··on The Big Hack: How China Used a Tiny Chip to Infiltrate Amazon and Apple
"Two of Elemental’s biggest early clients were the Mormon church, which used the technology to beam sermons to congregations around the world, and the adult film industry, which did not."

Well played, Bloomberg. Well played.

sandebert··on Google activated battery saving mode on multiple phones, then rolled it back
I don't mean to be a tin foil hat, but I have to ask: How do you know? Do you work at Apple, with this exact thing?

From my perspective there shouldn't be a problem for Apple to have the regular updates work as you describe. And also for them to have an alternative method they can use without any user intervention at all. (Which probably very seldom is used.)

sandebert··on Google activated battery saving mode on multiple phones, then rolled it back
I wouldn't be surprised if both Google and Apple could do whatever they want with our phones remotely. It's just that they usually don't, so we never see it.
sandebert··on The Illegal Ramen Vendors of Postwar Tokyo
I've never heard of them, got curious and found this: https://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/i-tried-eating-at-jap...
sandebert··on Pop Songs Written by Native Speakers of Swedish
All of a sudden I kind of want somebody to make a cover with your text instead.

sandebert··on How to deploy an app to production with an actual button
You should have an actual button for that.
sandebert··on Ask HN: What is the most LGBT friendly company you know of, preferably hiring?
How would you know you don't have a LGBT employee..!?
sandebert··on Ask HN: Who are some unsung heroes in open source that need more support?
That's an app I use daily. A couple of years back I tried to send him some money, as a way of showing appreciation for his work. He wasn't interested so I kind of assumed money wasn't an issue for him.
sandebert··on AI Can Detect Illnesses in Human Breath
(That would be Idiocracy, a movie by Mike Judge from 2006. I enjoyed it quite a bit, go see it if you get the chance.

sandebert··on Microsoft Is Said to Have Agreed to Acquire GitHub
I can imagine the people at GitLab being very excited about this! Perhaps sytse would like to comment?
sandebert··on Removing Trending From Facebook
That's my strategy also, can't recommend it enough.
sandebert··on Lobotomizing Gnome
Really? I've used Linux for ten years or so have never had a problem like this. When I started using it I was really, really worried because I suspected this be standard behaviour really. ”Surely this 'package management' thing will break things all the time?”. But nope, runs like clockwork. (I've always used Debian based distros, if that's a factor.)
sandebert··on Suggestive Drawing Among Humans and AIs
This site repeatedly crashes my mobile browser, I can't even remember when that happened last. (Chrome on Android 8.1)
sandebert··on A one-second video taken by the Rosetta probe on the surface of a comet
They should use jQuery for that. I hear it's good for all the things.
sandebert··on Teenager facing prison for downloading unsecured files from government website
I'm not saying that I agree with you, but I'm curious: does antisocial behavior mean it's illegal?
sandebert··on I am a “MasterChef” survivor
Yep, completely true. And if memory serves me right, I read in the newspapers that he had a history of mental issues. Not entirely sure about it though. What I do know for sure was that it turned into a MAJOR thing in media in Sweden. The show was called "bullying tv", and the producers instantly declared they would re-cut all the episodes before showing them. They did, people hated it for the first few episodes, but by the end of season one pretty much everybody was hooked. The success was a fact.
sandebert··on I am a “MasterChef” survivor
I don't know if it's a factor, but it might be worth noting that Survivor originated from Sweden. (Where it was called Expedition Robinson, after Robinson Crusoe.)
sandebert··on The day I accidentally killed a little boy
I don't really have anything to add other than I completely agree. I won't read the story. There's also certain documentaries I won't watch for the same reason.
sandebert··on How to Fix Facebook Before It Fixes Us
I did this a year or so ago - can't recommend it enough.
sandebert··on Kickstarter launches Drip, a Patreon competitor
It's worth mentioning they actually had the domain drip.com but sold it to the current owners. (For a six figure sum, informed a person at the buying company in a recent podcast, Art of Product.)
