From my basic experience editing Wikipedia I'm not sure you should edit the page of your own project. Maybe add a discussion for it instead? Or perhaps I'm mistaken.

I can't find the page now but iirc someone had attempted the same idea and got some serious backlash from the communities/servers scanned and eventually shut the project down. I agree, though, that discord really needs to be searchable; at least project pages and the like.

There is v2ex[0] which was suggested in another thread some time ago as a similar forum to keep with with chinese tech news. I don't use it much personally because of the load times from outside of china and translation difficulties but I've kept it bookmarked just in case.

As a native english speaker I don't run into this problem, but in the context of a PR do you think having the original native PR documentation alongside the machine translated documentation would have a similar problem?

A rare win for gnome web over firefox here

I use it. It's not the most practical I'll admit but I like the simplicity (I'm not super experienced with linux server administration so both of them feel similarly foreign, but SmartOS is pretty minimal and has been pretty straightforward to manage), and I won't lie it's a fun gimmick to be running a descendant of SunOS for random household services.

I really enjoy working with illumos on my home server. I run SmartOS[1] and it's zone management is great and the webui they've been working on is pretty cool too.

Yeah a huge part of reddit's usefulness for me is the ability to pull a page when googling something and being able to see discussion right there. I sympathize with the fear of scraping but I think this will hinder development and discoverability a good bit. It may also just be for the beta period? I don't see a blog with any info on that though.

Love to see the Cocteau Twins mentioned as they've been my favorite for the last few years. What an incredible discography!

Not related to the article specifically but at the bottom they have a "add as preferred source on Google" which is a new concept to me.

While i respect the vision (the decentralization scheme is really enticing), the last thing I want to see when opening up a storefront is an AI "ask me anything" prompt. I want to see what the storefront offers. When I open amazon on a private tab right now I see the wide range of products they sell from mobile devices to toys to beauty supplied. If I open Etsy I see blankets, artwork, and dalls. If I open Wootings store page I see the different keyboards they sell. As a first impression a blank page with "ask me anything" (even with a couple suggested prompts) makes me uncertain about the whole situation I walked into.

I feel like fedora is pretty accessible at this point. The main speedbump is enabling non-free repos but if you're helping someone install linux for the first time you just tell them to check that box during setup.

This isn't the same due to the sensitive nature of pornography consumption but in the US this is exactly what happens when you buy certain cold medicines (pseudoephedrine specifically)

I use firefox mostly because it's not blink based, and because I've used it all my life, but I also really love the userChrome system even if its hidden behind a flag. Since I use mostly vanilla gnome I use a firefox libadwaita skin [0] that makes it blend in nicely. I used to be jealous of chrome based browsers for their performance but I tried to switch to brave a couple years ago and honestly it doesn't look or feel very nice.

Most chromium-based browsers feel the same and its disappointing. If I wasn't as happy with the gnome skin for firefox I'd probably be using Zen [1] because its nice to see a firefox based browser that tries to introduce new features and create an identity of its own instead of joining a size measuring contest on how hard(ened) they are (I respect them, but it's a very saturated market at this point).

Editing to add that like @WarOnPrivacy said, containers are also a huge feature that I don't think I've seen any chromium-based browsers replicate.

I was the same way for years and appreciated it but unfortunately I did start to treat myself more and it's hard to go back, but my financial situation is also much better. I think it's valuable to stick with the lowest sufferable quality of something until you have the ability to meaningfully upgrade or improve upon it.

Unfortunately the rumors were misinformed. Microsoft's official response states that while they will be moving towards allowing more security functions to be run outside of the kernel, "It remains imperative that kernel access remains an option for use by cybersecurity products to allow continued innovation and the ability to detect and block future cyberthreats" [1].

I agree with that sentiment, and I think if framework had been working with several small lower quality distributions to support the overall ecosystem this may not have come across as poorly as it did. Looking at their supported distros they have, officially: Fedora, Ubuntu, Bazzite, and then community: Linux Mint, Arch, Bluefin, and NixOS. Each of these are high quality projects that each fill a niche well and while no longer listed Omarchy stood out as being much less polished than the others.

This comment sums up my own feelings towards this concisely :

Beyond the disappointment I have in framework for giving my money to someone so clearly off the rails, it's also disappointing to see it wasted on such a poor distribution as well. Omarchy, in isolation, is just a bloated arch install with thrown together scripts, zoom, spotify, and google apps preinstalled. I appreciate that it brought new people into linux but there are countless more polished and creative distributions that would be excellent to see partner with framework instead.

besides toomuchtodo's nicely made argument, I would like to point that that many "major" nations (I'm assuming that refers to mostly western countries, correct me if I'm wrong) were able to focus on committing to emissions because they gave their dirty work (ie: mass manufacturing, waste disposal, resource extraction) to other countries, especially China.

As a casual linux user with a 2in1 framework I feel very represented by Gnome's design choices, but I'll admit that I know I am nowhere close to representing most linux users. I do also really like it on the desktop too fwiw.
