samiq··on Memos – An open source Rewinds / Recall
I really wonder how much of an issue this sort of thing is, is people out there actively thinking they are going to get caught? For what? Like Eric Schmitt said once, if you have nothing to fear, you have nothing to hide.

I’m personally fascinated by this sort of reactions.

samiq··on [dead]
powerful video and reminding of how certain companies can make people feel

samiq··on Short history of all Windows UI frameworks and libraries
Also worthy of mention ReactNative Windows which wraps around winui with JavaScript, which is widely used by Microsoft both on windows as office, also worth mentioning that FluentUI web is also widely used at Microsoft to build OS apps (copilot as an example) with wrappers of the chromium web view
samiq··on Flutter Flow 4.0 [video]
I've been following Flutter Flow since before they joined YC, crazy how far their IDE has come, Google should acquire them and turn it into a the official IDE for Flutter projects.

samiq··on Got accepted in an accelerator. What kind of visa?
Oh and by the way u don't even need a visa to open up a company in the states, u can do that even online, so no worries on that end
samiq··on Got accepted in an accelerator. What kind of visa?
Yes, they told the immigration officer they were coming to participate of an incubator, to one of the partners then officer asked him to show some papers and the demo. Again u have to remember u r not coming here to stay... Yet. U r here for the program, if u happen to be successful and then find the need to stay u will figure it out with the help of lawyers from the program, but for now focus on the problem at hand, been on the program
samiq··on Got accepted in an accelerator. What kind of visa?
A couple of friends of mine came on a b1 and had no issues in NYC just make sure u bring all the papers and demo with u in case they ask.
samiq··on Pygn-appengine - use Gracenote Music API using JSON requests
as part of our research on music api's, today I spend the day playing with the Gracenote Music API, given that their API is based on XML and runs with all the bad things of x-domain policies, I wrote this little wrapper as an appengine app that exposes the api for json requests.

samiq··on PayPal: "State Department Said It Was Illegal"
when has paypal been known for defending their users? or even going the extra mile to talk and try to figure it out themselves? ... it's not only a nightmare to work with them as developer, it's also one to have them as a general service providers.
samiq··on Nicaragua Raids Costa Rica, Blames Google Maps
and here is google's official take on the issue

http://googleamericalatinablog.blogspot.com/2010/11/aclaraci...

basically what every body knows, the SLA for Google Maps doesn't cover military actions and no country in the world should use it as the basics for a military conflict.

yes, we made a mistake and we are fixing it.

samiq··on Nicaragua Raids Costa Rica, Blames Google Maps
the thing is the border between costa rica and nicaragua is a river (hence a natural boundary instead of an imaginary line somewhere) and part of the conflict is that they are working on changing the course of the river so it can increase their territory... and come one which serious commander will use google maps to back up and strategy when every other single map on earth calls the territory costarrican?
samiq··on Nicaragua Raids Costa Rica, Blames Google Maps
been a costa rican myself it's hard to understand the mind of this nicaraguan leaders... been the 2nd poorest country in latinamerica shouldn't they be more concerned about making it up for the people rather than invading another people's land? the worst of all is having Chavez behind it pushing for a military conflict :S

samiq··on [dead]
this whole thing remains me lots of Dougla's Adams books... amazingly portraid and if somewhere there they would have quoted the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy it would have been awesome :)
samiq··on IPad Now Available Thru Amazon
but it's easier ;) ... just one click away which works better for lots of ppl which will translate to new customers for ur app and as an added value it's tax free in most states
samiq··on IPad Now Available Thru Amazon
I think this is a new step towards commoditization of the ipad and a step forward in making it wildly available before the wave of android-base tablets makes it there first.

Points for amazon getting this deal as this means pretty much a new level of customers for our apps.

That's why I shared it.

BTW I didn't know it was against the hn rulz to add ur referral to news... as every single tech blog and news outlet out there is pasting their own tags on the link... and yes it was free of charge :)

samiq··on Windows Signature Experience: it's just windows sans the crapware
point is microsoft is supposed to be doing a certification process already which as far as I remember was to certify that the experience was guarantee... so base on this news, that certification sticker is just full of crap and now I need a geek squad or microsoft itself to tune it up to be the best experience.

seriously, if microsoft did their quality process the way it should be there should not be a need for "pc optimization services" or this such "signature experience" of any kind.

samiq··on Windows Signature Experience: it's just windows sans the crapware
paying microsoft extra for the experience I'd have got from the beginning is shocking... microsoft should focus more on getting OEMs stop this crapware fair and instead provide a great experience for their end users.

anyway, this a response from someone at Microsoft from a twitter conversation that started from this same link:

@xpaulbettsx: @timheuer @shanselman @samiq we are working to do this via perf requirements - slow down the OS, get penalized

samiq··on Nokia's OPK is out, replaced by Microsoft exec as President and CEO
having been a nokia customer now for quite some years (I own an iphone 3gs and a galaxy s for research purposes now) it's been sad to see them went down like the have done... gosh they even had a multi task, full web experience slate device 4 years ago... but the vision didn't get them anywhere.

hopefully with some new blood on it a rebirth can happen and we can start seeing some disruption in the market, after all nokia research has a lot of cool stuff that could be put in practice nowadays that the smartphone market as grown smarter
