I'm paying $20 a month using opus 5.5 and having a blast.
sam345··on Data Protection Commission fines Google €403M over processing of location data
Exactly
sam345··on I hate you Microsoft
This is the educational free license. It doesn't allow desktop apps. Only the browser version. It's like Google Workspace apps. It's fine for most people. It's like complaining you have to use Google sheets instead of Excel desktop. If you like Google stick with those apps but it's no different than what Microsoft is giving you in your educational license. If you want the desktop app, tell your admin and they might spring a few dollars a month for a license. Microsoft is actually an excellent value for educational licenses. For a few dollars a month, you get a ton of desktop apps and a lot of web-based apps. And for free, you still get a lot.
sam345··on German Rheinmetall open-sources its Battlesuite connected weapon system protcol
Awesome.
sam345··on An update on Wayback Machine access
Just out of curiosity, how do we know that what is in the Wikipedia comments is accurate? I have no skin in the game. I was just wondering. Anybody can post anything on Wikipedia comments. I find it odd that Ars Technica would use that as a source. Maybe it's fine for gossip and speculation but it shouldn't be in Ars Technica then.
sam345··on Switzerland's Federal Government Is Replacing Microsoft on 3k Computers
Not that hard to get rid of windows bloat.
sam345··on Switzerland's Federal Government Is Replacing Microsoft on 3k Computers

sam345··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
Even Shingy. Ia he really the standard for explaining tech to normies? Ouch.
sam345··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
I have not seen this. The one time I did it was after a major layoff. People use laptops and take them home. I'm not saying it's not viable but the scene you depict I think is outdated.
sam345··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
So Europeans don't do this ? The EU is constantly trying to regulate US companies. Every time I click on a stupid cookie notice I fondly think of the EU .
sam345··on 1Password Replied to My Disappointment
Ridiculous conclusion.
sam345··on 1Password Replied to My Disappointment
1password is miles ahead of bitwarden. It is much better.
sam345··on Google avoids a breakup of its ad tech business
This is an incredibly naive view. It truly is shocking to me that anyone in this day and age with any sense of how business works in the United States or even in any reasonably free economic system would view merhers as prima facie bad or in need of regulation which this comment implies. Are we truly going to submit every merger of any size or type to regulatory review? Oh boy.
sam345··on AnkiDroid: Google Play no longer allowing Open Collective donation link
I've never heard of a cheap Android phone at the airport.
sam345··on Israel creates fake think tank in likely attempt to dupe AI chatbots
No reason? And how exactly do you see that? The Iran of 60 years ago before the revolution was a completely different country than it is today. It has taken glee in killing thousands of Americans directly and through its proxies, and shouted death to America a gazillion times since.
sam345··on Going Dark, and the era of law enforcement hacking
So you are advocating no police? You want people to police themselves? .Good luck with that.
sam345··on Going Dark, and the era of law enforcement hacking
You might want to try reading something other than leftist attacks on law enforcement. Yes there abuses here and there. But for the most part law enforcement works s in the constitutional rights of defendants are respected. And if they are not they are subject to appeal. The system is flawed but it works.
sam345··on Going Dark, and the era of law enforcement hacking
Wire taps That's the point.
sam345··on Kimi-K3 on HuggingFace
I don't think so.

sam345··on Qwen 3.8
Oh please. Yes it's what it is about. China stealing western technology and flooding the market with underpriced stolen ip to bolster dependency.
sam345··on China sentences official to death for taking $325M in bribes
Only if the CCP doesn't like you or decides that it doesn't like you because you are more valuable as an enemy. Otherwise it's no big deal because politics in a communist country does not get done without bribes in one form or another. Honest players are not to be found in a communist country. Government is like open source. The more open you are, the less likely there is going to be shenanigans.
sam345··on Tesco moving 40k server workloads off VMware amid Broadcom's abusive conduct
Incorrect. Maybe you familiar with the high cost of living areas. There are similar $5 deals in the United States. The US is a big place and has many, many businesses offering very similar deals.
sam345··on Gov.uk has replaced Stripe with Dutch provider Adyen
How are you defining monopolies? Companies that are successful? Because you seem to be defining most US companies that do business in Europe as monopolies. It seems that this is the kind of mindset that has kept Europe behind. Too bad. Regulation that keeps out competition or needlessly puts obstacles in place is bad for the consumer, bad for employment, and bad for the general standard of living. And If you think US companies are unregulated then you haven't seen the 20 ft of federal CFR regulations together with the regulations of 50 different states that US companies have to deal with everyday.
sam345··on The AI bubble isn't like the internet bubble
My thoughts exactly. At most you get a surplus of cheap third tier AI. Which may or may not be helpful. And or a bunch of unused unmaintained deteriorating data center buildings.
sam345··on Agents can now create Cloudflare accounts, buy domains, and deploy
Please explain. Your comment reveals your lack of understanding of corporate law and the benefits of one state versus the other. And smart companies are going to incorporate in Texas anyway and it has nothing to do with taxes. More to do with corporate governance.
sam345··on Google broke its promise to me – now ICE has my data
It has nothing to do with condoning. It has everything to do with stating what the law is And what is or is what is not required to comply. And what is and what is not permitted under the Constitution. Whether you like it or not has nothing to do with anything.
sam345··on Backblaze has stopped backing up OneDrive and Dropbox folders and maybe others
Shsh... It's an excellent reliable no frills service. People might flood it.
