Lots of places have decaf in Korea.
sam29681749··on I Don't Have Spotify
CDs are smaller, cheaper, sound great, and have longer playtime. I think they're the superior medium. I get people prefer the sound of vinyl, though.
sam29681749··on Show HN: I Built a Todo Task Management Web App
So what app are they _actively_ using?

sam29681749··on Australia's 3G Shutdown – Why your 4G/5G Phone is now Blocked
I suspect that's not the reason why the graffiti wasn't removed.

sam29681749··on How to find your perfect keyboard?
Here's what I look for:

- cheap (I prefer the feel of cheap plastic keyboards to anything fancy)

- dongle (Bluetooth frustrates me).

- number pad

- dedicated media keys

- no function next to ctrl on the left

sam29681749··on Australia's 3G Shutdown – Why your 4G/5G Phone is now Blocked
Not good for dumbphone enjoyers. I specifically bought a sonim xp3 because it had 4g + VoLTE. It's all very confusing, but it sounds like it won't work when I land back in Australia, regardless of whether I'm willing to switch networks.
sam29681749··on Show HN: A minimal iPhone widget for people who love saving links
What's the advantage of this over sharing links in a group chat?

The design looks great.

sam29681749··on 'I grew up with it': readers on the enduring appeal of Microsoft Excel
Our team runs into errors (changes not syncing, etc.) on a regular basis 'collaborating' with Excel. definately doesn't work like magic in my experience.
sam29681749··on Org Mode Syntax Cheat Sheet (2017)
What specifically about emacs org mode made you more organised?
sam29681749··on Typing fast is not so important
Link won't load for me.

Couple of instances where I want to be able to type _very_ quickly is when I'm (a) taking notes while someone is talking or (b) writing out a lengthy code block I don't need to think that hard about. Other than that, typing at a modest speed is good enough.

~2 months ago. A typical laptop is more stable when sitting on my lap, etc.
sam29681749··on Looking into the Nintendo Alarmo
Somewhat related: what software did you use to create the diagram?
sam29681749··on New iMac with M4
If you're talking about the magic keyboard, I wouldn't consider that a clamshell. I mean it opens like this: _ < L
sam29681749··on What surprising thing have you learnt about me, given all our conversations?
"I'm not your psychologist and you need a girlfriend".
sam29681749··on Show HN: I built an app to use a QR code as my doorbell
1 & 3 seem reasonable applications for this, but I don't see it as a replacement for a doorbell. 2 seems just like a minor organisational blunder.
sam29681749··on Show HN: I built an app to use a QR code as my doorbell
Don't all apartments have an intercom? I suppose I just assumed they did.
sam29681749··on A return to hand-written notes by learning to read and write
They have in the form of monkeytype wpm scores. I think these are generally based on an a-z lower case test, so I doubt it's a realistic indicator of someone's actual typing speed.
sam29681749··on A return to hand-written notes by learning to read and write
I can't imagine people code at an equivalent to 120wpm.
sam29681749··on Show HN: I built an app to use a QR code as my doorbell
Grandma delivering cookies is out of luck. To be fair, if you don't have a phone you could just knock. But then you could just knock to begin with.
sam29681749··on Show HN: I built an app to use a QR code as my doorbell
Doorbell or knocking solves this? What are the other uses you can think of? Genuinely curious because I don't see them.
sam29681749··on Show HN: Turn your home into a co-working space – when it suits you
I would find working from a stranger's house awkward. Also, if I was the one with the house, I wouldn't want a stranger using my bathroom.

I'm remote and working abroad. Cafes and coworking spaces work fine for me.

sam29681749··on New iMac with M4
iPad's form factor (ie, not a clamshell) makes coding from train, couch, bed, impractical.

I think there are cases you can get that turns them into a clamshell on the other hand.

sam29681749··on Ask HN: Learning to interact correctly in online communities as a neurodivergent
I would take a closer look at your interactions and try and identify what, specifically, is leading to the negative reactions and adjust accordingly.

It's also worth considering, a lot of online communities aren't the most civil of places. It's best not to take these interactions personally.

sam29681749··on Show HN: I built an app to use a QR code as my doorbell
If you don't want to use electricity, you can have a knock.

What reason would you want to be notified of unknown visitors knocking on your doors when you're away? The only people I can see fitting this description are delivery drivers & salesmen?

Further, what if you're home and your phone is in another room, is on silent, or is dead?

What is you have a spouse or housemate? Do both of you get notified?

And there's also a subset of people who get frustrated by having to use QR codes in restaurants, who I suspect would be equally frustrated by this.

sam29681749··on Ask HN: What ist your AdBlock strategy?
Ignorant question: what ad blocking is required outside of your browser to require anything more than something like ublock?
