saltmate··on AirPods 5
Yes it is
saltmate··on Devtools must be open source
That's not a solution, just the necessary work. You still have a stack of patches you continuously have to (have) rebase(d) on upstream.
saltmate··on My Steam Machine is a 50ft HDMI cable
Does anyone have a proper (and not overly expensive) solution for also moving input devices somewhere else? My main device is not in the same room as my TV.
saltmate··on Founding a company in Germany: €9600, 152 days and I still can't send an invoice
It is obviously possible, the process is probably very similar in effort and expenses to founding it in that form directly.
saltmate··on Optocam Zero: a Pi Zero based digital camera made using off the shelf components
> Functional comparisons among devices within a category are always fair

When they have the same prerequisites, yes. But then you need to count in the time the iPhone needs to boot as well, which will probably mean you are at a similar range.

saltmate··on How we run Firecracker VMs inside EC2 and start browsers in less than 1s
Too bad, lots of CMSs have that built-in, probably a checkbox away.
saltmate··on How we run Firecracker VMs inside EC2 and start browsers in less than 1s
The VM snapshot/load is about memory, not storage.

Noone thinks concert ticket sales are an open market tho. They have one seller that sets the price, no competition between different sellers.

It only becomes a "market" after scalpers buy all contingent to resell.

> At least so long as my actions don't directly cause technical problems for the service operator.

That's the point of the criticism. The praise of their anti-anti-bot features reads like it is commonly used to cause technical problems to the service providers, be it intended or accepted for the cause.

Did you ask them for an RSS feed? Lots of people are pretty reasonable for such requests if you write a nice email.
saltmate··on Hetzner Price Adjustment
No, this is the same prize increase. The post from 38 days ago was the announcement this one will come, now it is active.
saltmate··on TinyWind: A pixel pirate sailing game with real wind physics (380k+ kms sailed)
Nadeo, bring back Virtual Skipper
saltmate··on Uv is fantastic, but its package management UX is a mess
Cause the "uv pip" entry point is designed to be backwards compatible with regular pip: https://docs.astral.sh/uv/pip/
saltmate··on VoIP brings back old-fashioned pay phones to rural Vermont (2025)
How often do you have to call the police?
saltmate··on A History of IDEs at Google
Do you have an example of what eclipse can do that VScode can't?
saltmate··on Why does it take so long to release black fan versions?
Any examples for these cheaper brands with same performance?
saltmate··on New copy of earliest poem in English, written 1,3k years ago, discovered in Rome
1,3k years ago is such a weird way to write it. Makes sense if we are talking millions of years, but why not write "in 700" or just "1300 years ago"
saltmate··on Soft launch of open-source code platform for government
Given the URL contains GCHQ, it isn't really hidden.
saltmate··on I bought Friendster for $30k – Here's what I'm doing with it
I thought I was the only one immediately sceptical when I heard domains, without content, bought for multiple thousand dollars just for ad revenue? How does that even work, surely there cannot be lots of legitimate traffic for a site that shut down 10 years ago?
saltmate··on I am building a cloud
As I understand, a cloud provider where instead of paying for each VM (with a set of resources), you pay for the resources, and can get as many VMs as you can fit on these resources.
saltmate··on I am building a cloud
What images are you running that you'd need the latest version up after just a minute?
saltmate··on I run multiple $10K MRR companies on a $20/month tech stack
But then you don't get the benefits of having the DB locally, with in-process access.
saltmate··on Show HN: Twitch Roulette – Find live streamers who need views the most
That feature exists by now, called "Enhanced Broadcasting".
saltmate··on ATMs didn’t kill bank teller jobs, but the iPhone did
In which way is the cashless society due to smartphones? Cards did that already before Apple/GooglePay were a thing.
saltmate··on Practical Guide to Bare Metal C++
This seems very well written, but has a lot of requirements/previous knowledge required by a reader. Are there similar resources that fill these gaps?
saltmate··on Major European payment processor can't send email to Google Workspace users
I doubt Google Workspace is going to be the major provider for European businesses
saltmate··on New York’s budget bill would require “blocking technology” on all 3D printers
Does it really matter what "they know"? It seems like the entire post is written by an LLM.
saltmate··on I replaced Windows with Linux and everything's going great
Have you ever heard of Thunderbird? There's to my knowledge no other mail client besides maybe mutt that offers more features and flexibility. For office, LibreOffice doesn't feel very modern but is capable of a lot of things.
saltmate··on Fighting Fire with Fire: Scalable Oral Exams
Ah yes, the logistical nightmare any hair salon or nail studio handles just fine.
