saint_yossarian··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
That prompt mixes in unrelated results about the workings of search engines. You could just use `udm=web`:

https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=web

saint_yossarian··on Chrome again exempts Google from user site data settings
I can reproduce it with Chromium 152.0.7977.75 on Debian sid.
saint_yossarian··on So Reddit has decided that plain HTML is unsafe
Seems to work fine here?

Kodi does have bultin server functionality (both DNLA and a web interface), it's just less commonly used that way, and I don't think transcoding is supported without plugins.
saint_yossarian··on Nano Banana 2 Lite
Proton has a pretty good importer for GMail/Calendar/Contacts.

The downside is that their Android calendar app is shit (a rewrite should come later this year), and Android contact syncing doesn't exist (planned for 2027). Not sure how the situation looks on iOS, but AFAIK it's similar.

saint_yossarian··on GrapheneOS has been ported to Android 17
For me it's the added security features: per-app network permissions, scoped storage/contacts permissions, and a bunch of system hardening measures.
saint_yossarian··on My Homelab AI Dev Platform
It's on a malware list: https://quad9.net/result/?url=rsgm.dev#domain-tester
saint_yossarian··on The circus freaks of open source
Oh I thought this was going to be about Bun.
saint_yossarian··on GrapheneOS user reported to authorities for using GrapheneOS
Because the GrapheneOS team takes security seriously, and spoofing would actually justify banning.

From https://grapheneos.org/articles/attestation-compatibility-gu...:

> GrapheneOS not only upholds the app security model but substantially reinforces it, so it cannot be justified with reasoning based on security, anti-fraud, etc.

saint_yossarian··on Mouseless – keyboard-driven control of macOS/Linux/Windows
I wouldn't say they're dead, just more hidden (e.g. GTK4 only shows them when you hold Alt). AFAIK most toolkits still support them, but app developers also have to actually define them.
saint_yossarian··on WSL 2 is getting faster Windows file system access
Outside of games using anti cheat, for me the most common fix is to just select Proton Hotfix or Proton Experimental in the game's compatibility settings.

For some reason certain games default to specific older Proton versions. And then of course there are a bunch of older games with a native Linux port that is now unmaintained and stopped working at some point, but they still work just fine with Proton :)

saint_yossarian··on Gmail thinks I'm stupid, so I left
You can use the advanced search to find mails larger than X.

Also if you're not aware, Google Photos lets you downscale photos and videos so they don't count towards your quota at all. See "Recover storage" on https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement

saint_yossarian··on GTA 6 Developers Unionize
This is about their UK workers.
saint_yossarian··on Claude Opus 4.8
Yeah militaries don't use commercial chatbots for that, they have their own machine learning implementations. Look into Project Maven for example.

And while there are still humans in the loop, the impression I get is that this is increasingly becoming meaningless, from the way they talk about optimizing the "kill chain" and letting small teams make hundreds of targeting decisions per hour.

saint_yossarian··on Show HN: Files.md – Open-source alternative to Obsidian
To be fair you can just keep using Obsidian or similar apps on your phone for this, along with an external sync solution like Syncthing.

I tried it for a bit in the past, the main friction is apps formatting Markdown slightly differently (indents, blank lines).

saint_yossarian··on Incident Report: CVE-2024-YIKES
> But for a long time (and maybe even still), a hacker creed was "move fast and break things."

Was it? I thought Zuckerberg coined this horrible phrase.

saint_yossarian··on Ghostty is leaving GitHub
That was my connection too! I joined in 2008 when I got my first Rails gig where they were using GitHub, which I hadn't heard of before.
saint_yossarian··on An AI agent deleted our production database. The agent's confession is below
...says the emperor with no clothes on.

Are you going to validate your own backup strategy, or will you just keep ignoring that responsibility now that Railway has restored your data?

saint_yossarian··on Stealth signals are bypassing Iran’s internet blackout
We also "know" Mossad had agents provocateurs there and was supplying weapons to dissidents. And since the war on Iran started it seems pretty obvious those "peaceful protests" were part of their regime change operation.
saint_yossarian··on jj – the CLI for Jujutsu
It's available in Debian sid, although a few versions behind: https://packages.debian.org/search?searchon=names&suite=all&...
saint_yossarian··on Make tmux pretty and usable (2024)
I think the mouse wheel is mapped by default if you `set mouse on`? I also additionally map Shift-PageUp/Down in my config. And recently they added a `pane-scrollbars` option for a clickable ASCII scrollbar.
saint_yossarian··on Make Tmux Pretty and Usable (2024)
Check out the `choose-tree` and `display-menu` commands.
saint_yossarian··on We've raised $17M to build what comes after Git
There's `git diff -w`, and most forges expose a setting for that in their diff views.
saint_yossarian··on How many products does Microsoft have named 'Copilot'?
Yes but which one?
saint_yossarian··on Artemis II crew take “spectacular” image of Earth
Just behind the horizon somewhere on the top right, or maybe some of those clouds are already it.

You can see for yourself in Google Maps if you enable the globe view, unfortunately it seems I can't share a direct link.

Kubrick, even.

The resolutions are different, 1920x1280 vs. 5568x3712.

Also possibly different JPEG quality settings.

saint_yossarian··on Show HN: Home Maker: Declare Your Dev Tools in a Makefile
> it's not easy to add any of them

For most of them there's nothing to add though, you simply publish tools on GitHub/Cargo/etc. and mise will know how to install them.

https://mise.jdx.dev/registry.html#backends has a bit more current info.

saint_yossarian··on Show HN: Home Maker: Declare Your Dev Tools in a Makefile
What conclusion do you mean? Aqua is just one of the many backends it supports.

For example there's also the GitHub backend which lets you install binaries from releases, no plugin needed at all.
