saikit··on What Happened to Talenti?
I got 3 jars for sale for under $9 last week so while the quality has probably dropped it's usually the cheapest gelato product at the supermarket.
saikit··on The Rise of “Movie-Set Urbanism”
I guess they resolved the heating issue with an even more American institution. Stepping into Aeon Mall Rycom is a like a localized version of my youth in New Jersey.

American Village in Okinawa is exactly like this. Outside of Naha, getting around Okinawa strangely feels like an American suburb.

You can read all about the group that's against the plan. https://www.14thstreetcoalition.org/

The locals in the US are militant against anything that reduces street parking in their neighborhoods.

saikit··on Who Killed Lard? (2012)
Lard is still key ingredient in Chinese cuisine, through it's rare to find dishes made with lard outside of China.

Here's instructions on how to render your own lard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9KXFgXQG70

The flair-era of TGI Fridays, as immortalized in Office Space.
saikit··on Japan’s special take on a packed lunch
Working in Manhattan, I am lucky to have access to a Sunrise Mart that sell bentos and other Japanese comfort foods. It's my go to lunch spot when I'm in a rush and want something cheap and healthy.

There's also a growing UK/Japanese chain called Wasabi Sushi & Bento that has locations in both Penn Station and WTC Oculus.

saikit··on How and Why Athletes Go Broke (2009)
Could be an exception to the rule, but the highest profile athlete bankruptcy recently is from a hockey player

saikit··on Google Clips is a new $249 wearable camera
The first thing I thought was that this was a civilian body cam.

Coincidentally, the police in my current hometown are also trying out a Google product for their body cams.

saikit··on Amazon to Build Second HQ in North America
Newark, NJ.

Audible is already located there. Easy access to NYC and their many distribution centers in New Jersey.

That ship has already sailed.

saikit··on The Japanese Iced Coffee Method (2012)
As other commenters noted, this is not a particularly Japanese method of ice coffee brewing.

This Kyoto-style coffee tower, however, is:

saikit··on The Japanese Iced Coffee Method (2012)
Recently paid $5.50 for cold brew in Brooklyn.

I think cold brew is an attempt by coffee shops to upsell what used to be regular coffee + ice. Taste wise, it's completely subjective. Value wise, nothing beats Starbucks double shot on ice.

At home, I just aeropress into an ice cube. That way, I don't have a pitcher of cold brew concentrate that has to be used within a week.

saikit··on Mozilla Chief Steps Down After 1 Week
I'd check the gay marriage positions of say... Yandex or TenCent.
saikit··on Mozilla Chief Steps Down After 1 Week
I don't think multinationals like Microsoft or Google would be too concerned if they were to pick up one of the top programmers in the world for a, presumably, a non-CEO position.
saikit··on Mozilla Chief Steps Down After 1 Week
What's done is done. But now that Mozilla rid itself one of its best assets, what's do prevent a rival like Microsoft or Google to hire Eich and have him work on their products?
