sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
Yeah but that’s 2-3 years of lost earnings and respect.
sadamznintern··on My dad’s resume and skills from 1980
Meanwhile I applied to 40-50, did interviews for 20 odd companies, 8 onsites and got only 2 offers.

It doesn’t matter as long as the company you got into was good lol (it wasn’t like that for me)

sadamznintern··on My dad’s resume and skills from 1980
I only took 1 of those in my entire undergrad career...

Amazon doesn’t pay much.
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
People know the hiring bar is low and the perks don’t exist and the TC is low etc.
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
Is Amazon “making it”?
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
I’m not there. I think I’m not the smartest guy around but I want to achieve my dreams and achieve upward class mobility. But today I’m stuck.
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
I failed a FB loop a few weeks ago despite studying really fucking hard and doing pretty damn well on the questions I got.

I’m afraid I’ll be stuck at Amazon, which nobody is actually impressed by, if I’m lucky and not PIPed out.

sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
Same, except I had an extra phone screen because I fucked up the logic portion (guess I'm dumb). Still got the job, and then finished the internship, then got a return offer.
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
Probably SDE. It's a similar process for everyone.

There's a lot of handwringing about it because it basically lets Googlers and Facebookers shit on our employee quality now (and you know they think we're inferior).

sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
If I could pass a Facebook interview I could finally be happy. I envy you.
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: How did you find your current job?
It's a big company so I applied online. Come to think of it all the companies I've accepted were the same way, though I've gotten interviews by directly reaching out to recruiters.
sadamznintern··on Blind: an anonymous, corporate social network
No this is how the world works.
sadamznintern··on 24-core CPU and I can’t type an email
.9ghz in 2018!? What machine is this?
sadamznintern··on Blind: an anonymous, corporate social network
Because they are clearly superior humans than me.
sadamznintern··on Blind: an anonymous, corporate social network
They also seem more attractive and less self loathing. I’d wager they do.

>hugged

Oh jeez I hope you didn’t create a new issue

sadamznintern··on Blind: an anonymous, corporate social network
Are we reading the same Blind

Most of them are Indians mad that they can’t get laid (typical for Seattle and Amazon-tier Indians).

I wonder if the Indians at Google Fremont have that problem..

sadamznintern··on Blind: an anonymous, corporate social network
>It has over 2 million users, including 43K at Microsoft, 28K at Amazon, and 10K at Google. In

It's remarkable how unhappy the people at Amazon on Blind are.

Literally everyone is just leetcoding to get out or bragging about getting in early enough to make a killing on the stock surge.

sadamznintern··on Companies Shouldn’t Be Accountable Only to Shareholders
I'm not on board with 50% of this but damnit if you're pushing me to be on board with all of it.
sadamznintern··on Companies Shouldn’t Be Accountable Only to Shareholders
Who the fuck still has a pension? Private sector employees and many public sector employees sure don't.
sadamznintern··on Serverless Docker Beta
Specifically AWS Lambda is. In terms of performance and flexibility AWS and GCP are far far behind.
sadamznintern··on Serverless Docker Beta
From an software engineering perspective it’s a travesty to include Apple and not Amazon.
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: Can engineers from Google or Facebook solve whiteboard questions easily?
>I presume it's Google and Facebook's extremely high hiring bar that you're attributing to elitism?

Yes and no. It's that I'm inferior and stupid for being at a lower tier company than at Facebook or Google. I can see it in every condescending hiring post about how easy it is to pass interviews without seeing similar problems before, switch companies and save for retirement and how nice it is to work at a company that treats you like an ubermensch.

>I've detected no elitism from any recruiters, interviewers, or hiring managers, and I've seen a number of people hired as interns and full time engineers as a direct result of my outreach.

I have absolutely heard of individuals from top tier schools getting easy questions while I got tougher ones, cases where people from top programs and other top companies (like Facebook) getting the benefit of a doubt in borderline situations, etc.

In some ways its even worse than at Facebook, at least at Facebook there isn't a hiring committee after a team match like there is at Google now.

sadamznintern··on Ask HN: Can engineers from Google or Facebook solve whiteboard questions easily?
It may not have been the intention but I'm honestly aghast at the utter elitism coming out of Google and Facebook. I get that you are "superior humans" that are plucked from top institutions making 25% more than me at Amazon, but you don't have to keep emphasizing it.

My interviewer offered suggestions. Finally I described memoizing it (can be done with 2 lines in Python with a dictionary) though he was more interested in how to do it without extra space by utilizing a BFS that uses the input list as a queue. Then he ran off for another meeting.

sadamznintern··on Ask HN: Can engineers from Google or Facebook solve whiteboard questions easily?
>They just told you how to solve it. But I can't see how they approach to get the answer. I think that part is the most interesting and valuable part for non-talent like me.

I ran into this too when I was preparing for a loop, especially for more complicated DP and recursion problems.

I found a website called gorecursion [0] on Reddit and he is very good at describing these solutions from the naive case to the optimized case very well. This helped me quite a bit, but I still didn't get the offer.

I know a lot of people at top companies. All of them have an innate ability to do these algorithm problems better than people like me - they can crank out solutions quickly and get offers almost everywhere they try.
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: Can engineers from Google or Facebook solve whiteboard questions easily?
I remember that video. I thought it was hilarious because the question was so easy anybody that has done leetcode would be able to identify it and code it in like 5 minutes. I've gotten it at 4 different companies!
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: Can engineers from Google or Facebook solve whiteboard questions easily?
It is >0, and those people make more than me :(
sadamznintern··on Ask HN: Can engineers from Google or Facebook solve whiteboard questions easily?
I'm really glad someone is seeing this for what it is. Too often people claim that you should go for the naive solution first, and then iterate, when that really doesn't work in the dynamics of a normal interview.
