sabertoothed··on Thailand cave rescue: all 12 boys and coach successfully rescued
How does it matter who the first person to ask for help is?

The later stages were coordinated with the local Thai rescue team. As proven by email exchange Elon published.

sabertoothed··on Ask HN: Ways to sell a failed business
Thank you!
sabertoothed··on Introducing .app, a more secure home for apps on the web
Gandi was super intransparent about the phase and what they are actually selling.

Indeed, Gandi did not actually obtain the domain. But merely offered to try to bid with the money once the price of the domain reached that point where it was available for that price.

In my case, that failed. The domain was purchased by someone else at a higher price.

I now have to fight to get my money back into my bank account. Gandi made their life extra hard by not being fully transparent.

sabertoothed··on Introducing .app, a more secure home for apps on the web
It looks like it, indeed.

I was confused because gandi and 101domains did not explicitly state the phase. And gandi took my money and deducted it from my account but apparently did not actually obtain the domain yet.

sabertoothed··on Introducing .app, a more secure home for apps on the web
It is very strange.

101domains wanted to charge me ~13,000 USD for a domain / year.

gandi, however, allowed me to purchase it (the same domain!) for ~650 GBP / year.

What is going on?

sabertoothed··on The Boring Company raises $112M from Musk, early employees
No, it pretty much has. And this is independent of any long-term arc.

The main competitor German car manufacturers see (internally) is Tesla. This is what they fear right now.

sabertoothed··on Recurrent Neural Network Tutorial for Artists (2017)
Hi jefft255,

I think you are totally right. As far as I understand, CNNs rely on the correlation of neighbouring pixels. And so directly applying them to vector graphics won't work.

However, vectorisation has massive downsides as well.

I will try to summarise it in some article. This had nerd-sniped my brain and so I need to write it down. Even if I have no solution for the problem yet.

Happy to send you a link to the draft once I have it so you can comment.

sabertoothed··on Recurrent Neural Network Tutorial for Artists (2017)
hardmaru! David, I am a big admirer of your work.

I am a PhD student and currently writing a blog post on how Deep Learning can be used in combination with vector graphics.

Do you have any ideas / remarks on this? What are the general options of applying Deep Learning to vector graphics (as input and/or output)?

sabertoothed··on Ask HN: Printing (canvas, tshirts) service via API possible?
The suggested technical procedure would be:

(1) You offer an API that takes a download link as a parameter.

(2) I send a request to your API with the download link where the SVG can be found.

(3) You download the SVG and prepare design options for the customer. You respond to me with a purchase link for my customer.

(4) I forward the link to my customer and earn a small provision if the customer purchases any goods with that design of his.

I like your humour.

TSLA stock fluctuations really keep me on my toes. -10% on one day, +10% on the other. It is an emotionally charged stock.

This is not true. There are quite a number of reasons to be found in the article. They are just not listed for you using bullet points.

E.g.: Focus on investigative journalism - << After publishing the Panama Papers, in 2016, Krach declared Der Spiegel’s monopoly on investigative journalism in Germany over. Part of this push, he said, arose from the need to secure the future of the paper. “The only strategy to survive in the long run in this very complicated and economically difficult environment is that we have to differentiate ourselves from others, so that people can find in our newspaper something they cannot find anywhere else,” Krach said.>> And then further arguments: Success with the Panama papers, etc. etc.

...(3) their agenda is the opposite of what you want or hold true
