saamm··on Why there is no recommender system for hacker news?
Ned Jackson Lovely has an interesting talk about just this thing!

saamm··on Show HN: Python library with Matlab-like functions for creating JavaScript plots
This is neat! Have you tried to get it running in a Jupyter notebook?
saamm··on Programs that have saved me 100+ hours
I've found the IDEA Vim plugin to be good enough for most of my work, but the macro support isn't great. Specifically, I miss running macros on multiple lines with `:norm@q`.
saamm··on Show HN: Your precise age updated live
If we're trying to be precise, why not also enter the time at which we were born?
saamm··on Elastic PyPI: your own Python Package Index on AWS Lambda
Hosting a PyPI index on S3 is simpler, but I admire the effort here!
saamm··on Ask HN: What simple tools or products are you most proud of making?
Does anyone know of a Firefox equivalent of this extension?
saamm··on Ask HN: What simple tools or products are you most proud of making?
http://puns.samueltaylor.org/

Enter a word, and this site will make up some puns for you based on that word. I'm way more proud than I have reason to be of this.

saamm··on Show HN: Finding puns computationally
Nailed it!

I scraped some idioms from the web, and take the 10 with the lowest score relative to the input word.

To score an idiom relative to an input word, I first convert the input word and each word in the idiom to phonemes (using cmudict [0]). I find the minimum Levenshtein distance between the input word's phonemes and the phonemes of a word in the idiom. The score for the idiom is that minimum distance divided by the number of phonemes in the word that had the minimum score.

The idea with dividing it is to give longer words a bit of a boost (though admittedly I didn't test that rigorously).

saamm··on Show HN: Curated database of awesome dinosaur pictures
Heads up: you say, "DinoPictures.org is a search engine that curates...", but your domain is dinosaurpictures.org (not dinopictures.org)
saamm··on Show HN: Salsa – something spicy about your startup life
What are the benefits of this over Glassdoor?
saamm··on Show HN: Facebook data visualizer
This is super neat! For usability reasons, I think it might be good to add some labels. For example, on the two "by Year" graphs, there are two lines, and I have no idea what they mean.
saamm··on Show HN: Sparkline.email – a quick graph of your email inbox size
Heads up: I'm getting an application error. ("An error occurred in the application and your page could not be served. Please try again in a few moments.")
saamm··on Show HN: Magic Mockups – Free real-life mockup generator
I like the idea!

Something is slightly off about the mockups [1]. I'm not 100% sure what it is. Maybe the colors look too vibrant to be on an actual screen?

saamm··on Show HN: Versey
Would you describe this as Instagram for audio recordings?
saamm··on Show HN: Beluga - A nice way to make lists and share tasks on your iPhone
That makes sense. I was asking mostly out of curiosity; I can't use Beluga because I don't have any iOS devices.

Were I to use it, I think it would play a role similar to Trello, which I'm using to manage a small project with a 5 person team.

Unrelated: I thought it was funny/cute that the items on the lists in the screenshot are whale-related.

Best of luck!

saamm··on Show HN: “Who is hiring?” redesign
It would be super useful for me to be able to do some filtering. For instance, show just internships in NYC.
saamm··on Show HN: Beluga - A nice way to make lists and share tasks on your iPhone
May I ask why groups are limited to seven people?
saamm··on Show HN: Triage Ebola like an Expert
I enjoyed how simple this was to use!
saamm··on Show HN: Jobs that fits you(Job Seeker)
I'm not in the target market for this, so the only feedback I have is that I think "6,00,000+ jobs accross India" should be "600,000+ jobs across India".
saamm··on Show HN: The Famous reply all button now is gone
I have no idea what this is or does.
saamm··on Show HN: Glance.wtf
This is pretty neat! It would be cool if I could get it to read given RSS feeds.
saamm··on Show HN: HN-beautify – a stylesheet for the HN frontpage
Is there a reason you don't want to put it on the Chrome Web Store?
saamm··on Academic Urban Legends
Don't they sell distilled water in the supermarket? How do they figure supermarkets can get away with selling something that dangerous?
saamm··on Tech Blogger Tries To Cancel Comcast Service, Hilarity Ensues
I'm going to be canceling Comcast around the end of the month. You're telling me I can just send a letter to my local service center and say, "Peace out!"?
saamm··on How to Sharpen Pencils (2012)
I go to a university in America, and I've had a few tests there given on Scantron.
saamm··on A 60-Hour Work Week is Not a Badge of Honour
I think he may be implying that it is easier to handle the lower levels of social interaction (with friends/family) that come along with working a lot of hours if you're more introverted.
saamm··on Android for all and the new Nexus 5
As a GNex owner, I'm a bit upset with the fact that there won't be official support for 4.4 on my phone. Supposedly, this choice is due to TI not supporting the chip anymore.
saamm··on To-Do Lists Don't Work
I may be reading the article incorrectly, but I feel like this could be accomplished with any calendar software (Outlook, Google Calendar, et c.)
saamm··on Github needs a new button
Thank you!
saamm··on Github needs a new button
Really? I don't think I've seen that before, but that sounds perfect for me. Do you have any advice on how to find such issues?
