s_husso··on "I couldn't really learn Erlang, 'cos it didn't exist, so I invented it"
>> The crazy think is we still are extremely bad at fitting things together - still the best way of fitting things together is the unix pipe

Is that sad or pure genius?

> I have the urge now to follow in Heather's footsteps, waste my own time, and write a version of sed in PHP. Or maybe Perl. And then write a wrapper for it in Applescript. Because, why not?

Wise words my friend :)

At least (if by any chance writing sed in PHP doesn't teach you anything) you can look back and say "I've written sed (in PHP), maybe it didn't come up as clean or as good as the real deal, but at least I have done it".

> It seems almost like an exercise designed to provoke: rewriting one of the cornerstone nix utils

Thought provoking or not, but I think rewriting the nix-utils with your language-of-choise is one of the best opportunity to learn :) Learn more about your language and learn how damn much effort has gone into the nix-utils to get them where they are today.

s_husso··on Tron Legacy (2010)
Thanks. I was wondering what tools they were using to create those effects (openframeworks, cinema4d).
s_husso··on Nokia: Yes, we decrypt your HTTPS data, but don’t worry about it
> Mobile network vendors (including Nokia's NSN) have a record of being very very helpful in supporting government wiretapping.

I think the major issue is that you cannot 'sell' any core mobile network-devices without: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawful_interception

So "very helpful" is kinda debatable in my opinion.

s_husso··on Howdoi – Instant Coding Answers via the Command Line
That would be super useful!
s_husso··on Steam for Linux Beta is now open to the public
> though all games in the Humble Indie Bundles support Linux > so hopefully they are added to Steam soon

Darn. This what I'm waiting for as most of my games are from humblebundle. Well at least uplink+defcon should work :)

I get the same feeling listening to this as the tron-legacy ost by Daft Punk. Would label the album genre as 'epic coding music' ;)
s_husso··on Angry Birds movie is set to hit theaters summer 2016
Good for Rovio! It was only matter of time when this would happen. Considering that there isn't a day, at least here in Finland, that one doesn't bump into some form of Angry Birds merchandise. Yesterday evening I went to get couple of beers from the local store and noticed Angry birds soda, candy, reflectors and plush toys near the counter. Talk about perfect place to sell your merchandise if you happen to be queuing with your kids :)
s_husso··on Hidden Portals in Earth's Magnetic Field
They dub it as 'the portal' but it seems that there is just a really long, 93million miles-long, magnetic field that connects the magnetic field of Earth and Sun. So I assume that it doesn't mean that we can 'throw stuff' at one end and expect it to come instantly over to the other end?

Can someone explain is there an application where we could utilize this discovery?

s_husso··on What Great Leaders Have That Good Leaders Don't
> Never leave anyone behind

I've got a mix feelings about this. I've stumpled on couple of cases where this would have been the "right thing" to do. Basically there was one person on the team who really didn't come along with the rest of the team. To top of this, the team also had some preassure from the management :) The combination caused heated conversations and then it escalated to a point that no one talked to the one person. Fast forward a year or so, couple of guys left the team before management decided to transfer the one person to

s_husso··on Introducing GNU Guix
Thanks for clearing it up :)
s_husso··on Introducing GNU Guix
Can someone explain what benefits do I get for using this rather than the package manager offered by my distribution? And do you need root access to install guix? Because if you do then

> unprivileged package management

seems quite, well, useless imho. If on the other hand everything in guix lives in the userland, I can see myself using it in the servers I don't have root-access to..
