s9w··on Biden Defeats Trump to Become Next President
Not only is the headline not identical to the article, but it is also not true. It is also against the site guidelines, but no one cares for those anyways.
s9w··on Biden Defeats Trump to Become Next President
Headline is not true
s9w··on Can We Finally Agree to Ignore Election Forecasts?
That is not true.
s9w··on The polls messed up
It's no wonder people lie about their vote when the wrong answer can get them into trouble.
s9w··on Microsoft Fluent UI System Icons
The point of icons is to recognize them. These icons are insanely similar to each other, which is in direct opposition to that original goal.

A similar disaster were the new gimp tool icons:

https://www.gimp.org/release-notes/images/2.10-icon-themes.p...

They actually brought the old ones back as an option.

s9w··on Microsoft Fluent UI System Icons
They're good for marketing and a manager because there's a number of nice adjectives about them. "modern", "minimalistic" etc. They're bad for users - because they all look the same and lack color as well as shading.
s9w··on Germany raided 83 homes in coordinated raids against online hate speech
Well you can get convicted for saying you like a joke. That did happen.

s9w··on Germany raided 83 homes in coordinated raids against online hate speech
There's a group of people downvoting everything I post, even about c++. No worries
s9w··on Germany raided 83 homes in coordinated raids against online hate speech
Well it's one of the typical lawyer tricks. There is a paragraph in the constitution that explicitly grants you freedom of speech. There's also others that more or less say you get to jail for saying xyz. Unfortunately, law is not a program that has to compile.

Then put selective enforcement on top and you have a very powerful weapon that gets great PR ("against hate").

s9w··on Germany raided 83 homes in coordinated raids against online hate speech
Insulting is explicitly illegal in Germany. In person or internet, doesn't matter.
s9w··on Germany raided 83 homes in coordinated raids against online hate speech
German sources have more info [0]. Among others, one guy was targeted because he linked a verboten music video. Another one because endorsed crimes.

s9w··on The West has failed – US and Europe have made a mess of handling the crisis
Situation in Germany:

- slightly less deaths than normal [0].

- Less ICU patients than normal ([1] vs [2])

- stagnant (and normal) amount of people with respiratory illnesses [3]

The only thing unusual at all is the PCR tests.

s9w··on Let the Incarcerated Vote
That is a very long stretch. I've never heard of hammerskins and I spend way too much time in the "bad" parts of the internet.
s9w··on Let the Incarcerated Vote
What points to them being the same person?
s9w··on Twitter backs down and unlocks NY Post account
I'm actually confused as to how people even make Twitter accounts. Twitter has always asked for a phone number here at the time of creating your accounts. Who even considers giving that? I've never been able to even create a fake account.
s9w··on [dead]
Most of these are really old, and the others are quite a stretch.

The McCloskeys were about to be killed by an armed mob and showed their weapons as self-defense. Kathy Griffin wasn't banned from Twitter or other social media. She wasn't convicted for hate speech. Nothing happened to her for holding up a severed head. And what did happen to Taylor Swift for coming out as a democrat supporter? nothing.

Also this is 100% politics on top of being wrong. Has no right to be here.

s9w··on 2020 Nice Stabbing
Things aren't really that much different in Germany. Things have changed from big attacks to lots of small ones that don't get reported.

On 10-29 a 25yo woman was killed in Bremen.

On 10-28 a 21yo man was stabbed and almost killed in Hamburg.

On 10-27 a 19yo man was stabbed and almost killed in Leipzig.

On 10-26 a man was stabeed and almost killed in Berlin.

On 10-25 one man was killed and three were heavily injured in two different knife attacks in Brandenburg. Same day a 18yo was shot three times and almost killed in Kassel. Same day in cologne a 25yo man was stabbed and almost killed in cologne. Same day a 8yo (!) was held a knife to the throat. Same day in Stuttgart two men were heavily injured in a stabbing. Same day in Hamburg multiple people were injured by stabbings and 6 shots.

On 10-24 a 22yo was shot and killed in Hamburg.

On 10-23 a woman was almost killed in Lemgo.

These were just the last 7 days. It does not include indicidents with non life-threatening injuries, which were there multiple of (Besides the 8yo thing, that was included for the age).

s9w··on 2020 Nice Stabbing
So just for the record. By now there's photos, and the blade looks long but not very broad. Looks like a filet knife I would say.
s9w··on 2020 Nice Stabbing
Well this might sound odd, but I've seen some videos.. it's very likely not just a kitchen knife. I've only seen this happening with large blades. And then it actually happens surprisingly fast. I imagine they "train" somehow to get some routine.

But either way, I can't see anyone interfering with something like that going down.

s9w··on Ask HN: Good C++ code bases to read?
It's a simple API, that's for sure. But it's pretty consistent in itself and obviously is trivial to build abstractions upon. Also makes it easy to port to other languages.
s9w··on Ask HN: Good C++ code bases to read?
Kindof. Almost no standard library but it does use namespaces. (almost) no templates. Lots of pointers and arrays. Lots of explicit begin/end or push/pop functions instead of more idiomatic solutions like RAII/scope guards etc. va_ macros instead of variadic templates or fold expressions.

Also while ImGUI is great and the guy follows good coding practices - it's not at all what I would recommend for learning C++. Not only is it technically not C++, but the problem it solves (GUI-Framework and immediate on top) leads to some pretty hard to follow code with a lot of hidden global state.

Of course they do. Google results are _massively_ censored. Entire sites are not listed there, even if searching for their name or domain.

It's good that this is being talked about, but at this point everyone should know that google results are mostly about steering you into their belief systems if the search term have even the slightest political tint. Bing is much better for being neutral, even if not always for the quality of the results themselves.

s9w··on Cyberpunk 2077 delayed to December 10
But wfh didn't change since their last delay, or their gold announcement.
s9w··on Cyberpunk 2077 delayed to December 10
Well for starters, they all showed the wrong release date.
s9w··on Cyberpunk 2077 delayed to December 10
This is its third delay I think. And AFTER announcing its gold status. This is so bizarre. And it's not even an amateur studio or a monumental project like Star Citizen. They delivered multiple projects that were at least of comparable size.

They released so many trailers in the last weeks and even days. This must be so expensive purely from a marketing perspective.

Also none of the reasons are news. Corona has been here for a long time now, and other teams deal with it, too. And I'm sure the release platforms have also been set in stone for a long time.

Also just Yesterday they posted this on twitter: https://twitter.com/CyberpunkGame/status/1320829781936640013

s9w··on “SARS-CoV-2 was only successfully isolated from samples with geq 32 PCR cycles
Title should read "<= 32 PCR cycles" but bugs out somehow.

Most test threshold are in the 35-40 cycle range.

s9w··on More “false positives” reported in Munich
All positive results from Heidenheim, Bayern München and Türkgücü München and were wrong ("false positives").
s9w··on The Now-Defunct Firms Behind 8chan, QAnon
Twitter talks about killing men, white people, Trump or conservatives. It's honest to god not much different.
s9w··on The Now-Defunct Firms Behind 8chan, QAnon
It depends on who you are on what you define as hate. The sites both have a very clear political preference. And both are harsh towards the other. But the chans due to the way the work have less of a vendetta style activism and mostly ignore or ridicule outsiders.

There's some rough language - I would say on average the chans are certainly more direct and less signaling, but the lows are pretty equal for both sites. Death wishes are very common on both.

And of course what you interpret as hateful is massively defined by your beliefs. If you define using wrong pronouns as such, then you're gonna have a bad time on the chans. But so would you on Twitter for having a photo with a MAGA hat.

The chans can be surprisingly humane and supportive. Truly so and not just for social points. Their usual dismissive description is not matched by the actual content. Which is understandable since honestly at the moment, a very good chunk of the content is by bots and organized groups.

Related: I recently posted a long article on all sorts of c++ stuff on a technical Reddit. It also contained criticism of Git. People got their god damn pitchforks! They told me to give up my job, told me I'm a bad coder, they went through reddit and git histories, looked up accounts on other sites and sent me things to my private E-mail that carry a prison sentence in my country. And the mods didn't even remove any of it. Because I criticized Git. But they do insta-ban people for using the wrong pronouns.

Things are not like they seem if you're not in the 'in'-group. Deviate just a little and people come for you - on Twitter like on Reddit. There's no such thing on the chans.
