s0me0ne··on JQuery 2.0 Drops Support for IE6/7/8; API-Compatible with jQuery 1.9.
Did anyone read the post? 1.9 will still support ie6/7/8, so just use that for compatibility. Let's move the web forward. I still use XP at home and don't care because I use Firefox. So if grandma/grandpa and corporate america don't get all the new bells and whistles, they are probably used to it, because they don't have rounded corners, text-shadow and box-shadow on everything anyway. They probably won't even know what they are missing on that HP/Dell POS. :p
s0me0ne··on The Digg Team Is Going To WaPo, But The Assets Aren’t
Reddit's site is ugly and the UI is horrible. I've tried to use it and it sucks. Plus there is so much childish crap on there. I remember first finding Digg in 2005, then they opened it up to non-tech categories. It was still good, because I could get the feeds for categories I liked. They added images and pics, and I filtered that crap out as well. Then v4 happened and use went down and the categories went very narrow and it sucked.

I really wish Hacker News had categories, but it would very hard to categorize things. Right now I have a massive filter on Yahoo Pipes, but of its no where near perfect. All I can work with is the title of the story to filter things and link.

s0me0ne··on PHP: A fractal of bad design
PHP doesn't require any libraries to build a simple website. I've yet to see any document that shows in great detail (more than a simple 1 chapter static page based site) how to build a website using Ruby or Python by itself. No libraries, frameworks (no Rails, no Django) or other external stuff, just plain old Ruby or Python. I think this combined with the fact it's very easy to learn, the ton of tools out there, ton of web apps make it a hard language to kill.

What really can be done? Should they make a new version that provides more consistant function names and break backwards incompatibility? I've yet to hear what people think should be done with PHP besides abandoning it.

That being said I don't think it should die, I think it has it's place. I'm not as smart as the rest of the folks on here, but for doing client sites, PHP gets the job done very fast.

s0me0ne··on Toothache anyone? It's time for a vacation
Is there a site like this for healthcare? I remember seeing something on the news once where people were going to India to get surgery done. When the US treats healthcare like profitable business, what else do expect to happen? Consumers w health issues will go elsewhere if possible, although with emergencies, you are pretty much stuck here.
s0me0ne··on Google Pushes Play Front And Center
Basically useless for desktop users, they should let us pick the order of that nav. All I need is gmail, docs and reader.
