rzzzt··on VST3 audio plugin format is now MIT
The company's history page says they were part of the merger in 1967 that created "Big Nokia": https://company.nokiantyres.com/about-us/history/#:~:text=19...

This changed in 1988 with the formation of an LLC, in 1995 they went public and in 2003 shares still held by the parent company were sold off to Bridgestone.

A motorcycle named Norton Commander also exists, and Nokia* sold winter bicycle tires with studs on them so they would grip better on ice and snow.

Prog8 requires 64tass (for which a .deb package exists it looks like) and a Java runtime: https://github.com/irmen/prog8

rzzzt··on Farming Hard Drives (2012)
Pin 3 on the power connector used to be constant 3.3V, but its purpose changed to keeping the drive in a low-power shutdown state for enabling e.g. staggered spinup: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/hdd-sata-power-disable-fea...
rzzzt··on Build your own database
One that lets people enter. We will figure out exiting later, with exiting on a different floor as a stretch goal.
rzzzt··on Commodore 64 Ultimate
They both have one: https://archive.org/details/commodore-64-manual-en-1982/page...

On the user port I managed to short 5V to GND instead :'(

Wasn't the GDR subject to CoCom restrictions?

There is one small difference, BMC64 uses Circle and circle-stdlib to produce a bare metal image and does not rely on a Linux distribution: https://github.com/smuehlst/circle-stdlib

Same with Beaker Browser and Dat/Hyperdrive as its backend.

Also battery backup (or at least some beefy capacitors).

rzzzt··on The illegible nature of software development talent
There is a reference to a Ribbonfarm post where the term is explored: https://www.ribbonfarm.com/2010/07/26/a-big-little-idea-call...

I see where they are coming from but still have a hard time making the connection between the idea and the word.

Pandora's monster, Pandora is the scientist.
rzzzt··on Solar panels + cold = A potential problem
Same thing happened to PC PSUs. I don't think there is a recent unit that still has the self-destruct voltage selector switch which pops them if you are in 230V land (and the switch is set to the smaller setting).
rzzzt··on Solar panels + cold = A potential problem
AC wiggles and wobbles.
rzzzt··on A lifetime of social ties adds up to healthy aging
The journal mentioned in the article (Brain, Behavior and Immunity - Health) has a few submissions related to this topic, like the one that examines CRP levels and social media use: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37224891/
rzzzt··on A lifetime of social ties adds up to healthy aging
What if I just want to spite my enemies with my continued existence? They will shake their fist angrily at the sky for decades to come.

Assuming it's an octal number: 1042.
rzzzt··on Choose Your Own Adventure
A long list of the books in the series can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fighting_Fantasy_gameb...

Some feature a branching storyline while in others the paragraphs are arranged in a 2D grid-like fashion and you can visit an earlier place multiple times.

(One thing that has stuck with me is a bad ending in one of them, where you are captured and the last choice you make is whether you want to sit in a small cage or stand in a tall and narrow cage for the rest of your life. I mean come on)

rzzzt··on Revamping an Old TV as a Gift (2019)
Note that I'm only appreciating them from a safe distance (and from the front). For an introductory list of the many things that can harm someone opening the cover, here's one: https://www.ifixit.com/Troubleshooting/Television/CRT+Repair...

Members of the forum "Elektrotanya" have collected a nice set of service manuals and schematics over the years: https://elektrotanya.com/content/about-site

I also see Polish forums when looking for TV stuff but I don't have a specific suggestion for that corner of the web.

rzzzt··on Tips for installing Windows 98 in QEMU/UTM
In one video I've seen UTM used mouse emulation without absolute positioning: it treated the screen surface as a giant trackpoint nub and you could move away from the current location with variable speed. A native on-screen keyboard is also available.

For absolute positioning a USB input device is emulated, so this might not work in Windows 98 without a suitable driver: https://docs.getutm.app/preferences/ios/#cursor
