ryanlm··on Ask HN: Non tech co founder
He wants to get interns to do business dev. He actually said that to me.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: Non tech co founder
Not afraid, I told him I'm sorry if I'm rude and that I'm not trying to undermine him, I just want to get up to speed on his thoughts and goals.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: Non tech co founder
Hey thanks. This sounds like the first reaction that I had. Can you elaborate on experiences that are similar to mine?
ryanlm··on Ask HN: Non tech co founder
He came up with the idea. Has no funding. He is a long time high school and college friend and the only person I know that wants to pursue entrepreneurship.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: Non tech co founder
Yes. And he claims he is the "founder", and he honestly still hasn't been able to tell me what it is he will be doing while I'll be working my ass off writing code for this thing.

Keep in mind this isn't yet a real company. Just a google drive with documents.

ryanlm··on I'm Peter Roberts, immigration attorney who does work for YC and startups. AMA
When is the best time to incorporate and do a binding equity split for a new venture? I have a co founder and we've begun to talk about a 50 50 equity split as an S corporation. Before work is done, is it best to have a real entity formed?
ryanlm··on “Oculus removed the headset check from the DRM in Oculus Runtime 1.5”
What does this mean?
ryanlm··on Lon.gs: A URL shortener in C
Wouldn't the process just die? It would say segmentation fault or something and return to the caller I would assume. How would you get a bash shell?
ryanlm··on Lon.gs: A URL shortener in C
Can you define shell? Do you mean you can get a bash shell from an exploit in this code?
ryanlm··on Lon.gs: A URL shortener in C
You're forgetting something about networked code. At some layer of the stack it has to be written in C or assembly.
ryanlm··on Lon.gs: A URL shortener in C
That's not a warning. That's a runtime error.
ryanlm··on Lon.gs: A URL shortener in C
I consider the fact that it is written in C a feature.
ryanlm··on Visualising the .NET Garbage Collector
Is the GC open source?
ryanlm··on Reflection in C++
Interesting. But this wouldn't work in a shop because the internal API would need to be maintained.
ryanlm··on Unambiguous JavaScript Grammar
Where is the BNF?
ryanlm··on Ask HN: Is there a good book on IT/Silicon Valley history?
Not a book, but the computer history museum has a silicon valley exhibit.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: How do we replace our POP3 email solution?
Why host it yourself? Outsource this.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: Own a young SAAS app? Be my tech mentor I'll be your marketing mentor
Is this a pitch to sell your services?
ryanlm··on Ask HN: One-person SaaS apps that are profitable?
How do you handle taxes? Did you incorporate?
ryanlm··on Home Depot Files Antitrust Lawsuit Against Visa, MasterCard
The whole chip thing takes like 30 more seconds. I'm considering carrying cash to just save time.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: How often do you get contacted via HN?
My first instinct was that it was some kind of scam, but apparently these people did some hard research into my publicly available information (LinkedIn, etc). They didn't mention their name which almost set off a red flag for me.
ryanlm··on Shell companies that hoard and sell IPv4 addresses
How exactly does one buy IP addresses? Do you have to run your own BGP instance and peer with others? Could I, for personal use by a /22 and control my own network? How much does that cost to do?
ryanlm··on PHP Sucks
They emitted oplines to the opcode array directly from the parse production.
ryanlm··on PHP Sucks
If I were to build enterprise software in PHP, I'd use Zend Framework. Not sure why it's not as popular.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: What programming language has you really excited lately, and why?
Is that all? That's a pretty generic reason IMO.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: What are the alternatives to LinkedIn?
Do you mind sharing why?
ryanlm··on Microsoft to acquire LinkedIn for $26B
What a surprise this is to hear! I didn't know LinkedIn was in the market to be acquired.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: I have an idea for a product, what do I do?
To address some points, I have already built a version of this product for a client. So, I feel like there has already been some validation. I wouldn't use any of the same code. Our no compete agreement expired this year, so there wouldn't be any issues.
ryanlm··on Ask HN: Transpiling a dynamically typed language to a statically typed language
My honest opinion is that unless you've written C, or assembly, I don't consider you a real programmer.
