russdpale··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
Good, now do it for the rest of them, from linkd-in to facebook.
russdpale··on Banning TikTok Is Unconstitutional. The Supreme Court Must Step In
I just wish they wouldn't stop with tik tok. Facebook, twitter and all the rest present the same danger.
russdpale··on The Onion buys Infowars
This is the dumbest take I have ever seen. I guess spreading disinformation that gets people killed is comedy now.
russdpale··on The Onion buys Infowars
Not a good idea, Alex Jones is a big reason for the hate against people like Anthony Fauci.
russdpale··on The Onion buys Infowars
This has been my thought all along. Drown out his real stuff with AI generated slop. Slop him.
russdpale··on Telegram will now hand over phone number and IP for criminal suspects
You ask these like they are some kind of gotcha moment, but all of these very simple questions have been answered for decades by international law. You think yourself clever but show yourself ignorant.
russdpale··on FTC: Vast Surveillance of Users by Social Media and Video Streaming Companies
instead of stupid recommendations, which are laughable, the government should actually enforce them.
russdpale··on Show HN: Backlot – Create custom "TV episodes" with just a few words
super shady to have people sign up then tell them what the credits and pricing is. I guess money aint enough? You gotta participate in surveillance capitalism as well. Creepy.
russdpale··on Cops are using AI chatbots to write crime reports. Will they hold up in court?
It's using it's training data to rephrase and reword your existing text. Hello, mcfly.
russdpale··on Cops are using AI chatbots to write crime reports. Will they hold up in court?
This is an absolutely terrible idea, people's lives are going to be ruined by this.
russdpale··on Show HN: Omi – Open-source AI wearable for capturing conversations
If you wear this you are a fucking creep.
russdpale··on Show HN: Access all your AI models in one place
the worst part about ai is that the entire internet, even building it, will become pay to play. It really sucks.
russdpale··on Show HN: Windows 9X – Windows 98 but all of the programs are AI generated
ok so what makes this bloody brilliant is that it can claim to have the modern features of windows with the online user account requirement LOL
russdpale··on Blue checks on X deceiving users into engaging with harmful material, EU says
No shit.
russdpale··on Show HN: No Fap AI Tracker on Telegram
weird
russdpale··on Show HN: We were tired of bureaucracy, so we build a repo for the best guides
When you say you are tired of bureaucracy, what you are saying is that you are sick of listening to the voices of your fellow citizens. I would change the language so as to not slander the bureaucracy or the people who work there, who are usually just good citizens trying their best.

It's a good idea though, overall I think. Eventually you could do more than the public sector, the private sector has some terrible processes to navigate as well.

russdpale··on Apple won't roll out AI tech in EU market over regulatory concerns
Not just plastics in the waterways, but in our brains and even our dicks apparently.
russdpale··on Apple won't roll out AI tech in EU market over regulatory concerns
> I don’t know what the endgame is.

Well that is your first problem, politics is not an "end game".

russdpale··on Apple won't roll out AI tech in EU market over regulatory concerns
Corrupt, that is how US regulators look, and everyone knows it. But this is the website that is spawning far right fascists who are advocating for political violence in the bay area, so I don't think you will get a lot of reasonable takes here.
russdpale··on Show HN: Simpler web dev with Htmx, SQLite and TypeScript
ditch typescript and Im more with you.. you'll never convince me that something that compiles to js is "simplicity".
russdpale··on Show HN: Clip Remix, Transform YouTube Videos into Twitter Threads with AI
twitter? meh
russdpale··on Microsoft will switch off Recall by default after security backlash
and abusive partners/stalkers.
russdpale··on Microsoft will switch off Recall by default after security backlash
passwords are the last of it, think about women inquiring about abortions in states where they aren't legal. Or people trying to get away from an abusive partner, on and on it goes.
russdpale··on Microsoft will switch off Recall by default after security backlash
no it isnt the same, you may know I went to my health care provider's website, maybe even to make an appointment depending on the url, but with recall, everything that is on the page will be stored, not just the url. It's totally different. So the message I sent my healthcare provider that is discussing some of my most sensitive medical issues will be available to read and a record is kept of it... not just the url. Do you not see the difference?
russdpale··on Legal models hallucinate in 1 out of 6 (or more) benchmarking queries
Knowing this, lawyers who use these tools should be disbarred. Period.
russdpale··on Two Years Later, Generative AI Is Not Even Trustworthy or Mainstream
It is still far too unreliable for serious work in which the task requires you to wear adult pants, unless that task is hyper specific and fairly simple, like say, photoshop's spot removal tool. This has been true since gpt2 and is unlikely to ever be resolved using current training methods.. something that has also been known among serious people since gpt2.

What is attempting to drive this adoption is the unending pressure for quarterly returns. The irrational demand for ever increasing profits will last longer than any set of company ethics or oversight.

russdpale··on Show HN: We tried to make Azure easier for developers
not from what I can tell, but azure is so absurdly huge perhaps I am just missing it.
russdpale··on Show HN: Terminus – A Free, Versatile, Self-Hosted OS Based on Kubernetes
It would be nice to have an image that does not include the super sus AI and web3 "features". So far as I can tell people are clamoring to get away from that stuff and by all accounts the amount of people using these tools when given the option is extremely small (around 2%), and these apps are going to turn more people away from this project than towards it.
russdpale··on Show HN: HackerNews but for research papers
Would love to see non-stem on there, especially history where there is so much exciting stuff going on as many historians are stepping one foot into Archaeology. We are discovering so many amazing things right now.
russdpale··on Show HN: We tried to make Azure easier for developers
What azure needs is a sanboxed, free dev environment that one can actually learn in. That's the biggest first hurdle, and generally one that just makes people say fuck it and go elsewhere.
