ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: Migrate from Hasura in Production Fast?
Spin up your hasura instance using a docker container in something like fly.io or whatever you use do run docker containers (you can email me if you want)
ruslan_talpa··on A new JSON data type for ClickHouse
I’ve got a lib/executable that you spin up and it gives you a rest api (read and write) for clickhouse if you are interested

Exactly what you describe but not free [1]

ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: Does Anyone Use a "Closed Core" Software Model?
Interesting example. I was thinking about this more in the direction of "protecting the IP/investment" rather then "abuse the users" but i get your point.

With the telegram example, i don't see it very much different from a SaaS where you get to talk to an API however you want. My question was more in the space where the customer gets the entire codebase (to deploy it themselves) where just the core is closed (or proprietary with maybe source available)

would seeing the source for the core (but no rights to alter/reuse) improve your opinion as to "doing some scam"?

ruslan_talpa··on Launch HN: Okapi (YC W24) – A new, flexible CRM with good UX
Sorry for the late reply, my email is in my profile (and the link to the product if you want to see before contacting me, though in would prefer to get in touch either by email or discord that you can find on the main page)
ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: What non-AI products are you working on?
This exists (commercial) https://subzero.cloud/

I think i’ve built just that, can we get in touch? I would appreciate the feedback
ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: Does anyone find tools like Retool useful?
Over the time (as part of researching competition) i also hear a lot of fans of retool with rave review (though never specifics as to what they are using it for). And i get it's appeal for building the UI, drag and drop, you see it directly and all the props of all components are there in the UI with documentation. But putting together the UIs is not what i find hard (using libraries like Reach-Admin). For me it seems way more time consuming having the UI interact with the actual backend/db and when i see in retool that this is done by "write a bunch of SQL for each table/button/screen" and they are just there in a list ... i just don't see how this is scalable/manageable for a internal tool with 10-20 screens. Also all the input validation is on the frontend ... did i miss some docs somewhere?
ruslan_talpa··on What if serverless meant no backend servers?
* localStorage is small, volatile, OPFS is big/durable

* main thread <-> db vs main thread <-> worker <-> db:

  - firstly, sqlite with OPFS has to run in a webworker

  - even if it was possible to run in main thread, this approach allows for a code structure that is similar to a traditional architecture (frontend/backend split) and it's easy to route some request to the web worker while let over request fall through and reach backend server and not needing to worry about that in the "frontend code"
ruslan_talpa··on What if serverless meant no backend servers?
in principle yes, i agree but one aspect the desktop apps lose, the distribution model. it's way easier to just say "go to this link" and the app is running (no install step, no central store, no "code signing").
ruslan_talpa··on What if serverless meant no backend servers?
since this is basically running in a (modern) browser, doesn't it follow that it works on all platforms where there is a browser?
ruslan_talpa··on What if serverless meant no backend servers?
although naively implemented [1] you write a migration in the new version

ruslan_talpa··on What if serverless meant no backend servers?
I was just made aware TursoDB has a version of their client [1] with the same underlying technology so it seems it might be possible to have the best of both worlds, interacting locally with the db in the browser while it's being synced to the remote instance (not 100% sure though).

Weird seeing Oradea in a “top 10” list :)

Drop me a line if you ever visit.

ruslan_talpa··on SQL as API
You are wrong on both statements :) It does not stop working and this “customization” is easy.
ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: What are some unpopular technologies you wish people knew more about?
Exactly that (same api structure) https://docs.subzero.cloud/
ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: Why aren't Django Admin style dashboards popular in other frameworks?
If by backend you mean your db (and not your python/rails code) and you want django admin functionality but with react on the frontend, check out https://subzero.cloud (ts lib), i am building it
ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: Why aren't Django Admin style dashboards popular in other frameworks?
Unlike retool, you almost never need to touch backend because the system already provides 90% of your needs just by introspecting the database, you only implement super custom endpoints where you need custom complicated queries or you need to call 3rd party systems
ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: Why aren't Django Admin style dashboards popular in other frameworks?
I am building https://subzero.cloud

If your data is in pg/mysql/sqlite/clickhouse this might work for you

That is for js/ts stack

ruslan_talpa··on Why Is the Django Admin "Ugly"?
what other stack would you pick if it also had admin?
ruslan_talpa··on Ask HN: SaaS Founders, What 3 advice would you give your younger selves?
What changed since the blog post? Employees? Cofounder?
ruslan_talpa··on Show HN: Django Admin for TypeScript
1) The similarity is with "django admin" specifically (not django). The way i saw this was: "if you have models setup with django, django-admin gives you a admin UI for the data without any setup", with subzero "if you have a database (with any schema), subzero gives you an UI for the data without any setup" and both of these systems can be customized with code. Another way to put it: you have your db, you point subzero to it, and you get the UI linked here, no configuration needed, and if desired, it can be customized to any degree

2) actually the overview of the docs is a bit old, it was written some months ago when there was no UI (just the backend stuff) so the positioning changed a bit. While the copy on the homepage was indeed intended for "managers/CTOs" it should have certainly made sense to a developer too so i have to fix that somehow.

Thank you very much for the feedback, really valuable.

Since i can no longer edit the link of the post, here is the link directly to the login page so that the "back hijack" is avoided

ruslan_talpa··on Show HN: Django Admin for TypeScript
Thank you for the feedback, - I though in the TLDR world, people would prefer to just see the demo instead of the "homepage" ... i guess i was wrong, anyway the link is [1]

- The back button isn't hijacked (but i get what you are saying), i linked to the / of the demo but it immediately redirects to login. I'll change the link to login so that there is no "back hijack"
