Do you mean the lavalier mic from Aliexpress I mentioned? Well I first ordered one from Amazon and from knowing that and from looking at many other offers it is clear that these are pretty much all the same model. And so you pay for different marketing. When it comes to “not knowing how it’s made”: It is not even using a USB connection but rather plugs right into the microphone jack. So not sure how this could be used for surveillance. And regarding the human rights: Sure that is not ok. But most things are made in China and it is hard to escape. But if you find something good made “locally” (wherever that might be for you) then please share!
On conference calls my headphones are usually plugged into the audio-out of the back of the mic so I can monitor my audio (and Linux can also output the system sound to that channel).
Pulsecaster is a very good tip, thanks!
I am also not afiliated in any way with Fifine but I was really impressed by the build quality of the mic.
I am also on Fedora and on the journey of improving audio I also have been playing around with Pulseeffects. Playing around with gate, compressor and limiter, etc. can certainly improve even more (and cut off some noise, etc.) but I am still figuring things out:

Also you don't have to put the mic so close to your face that it is visible in your video feed. It still has a much better quality and less noise than many other solutions like bluetooth headsets I tested before.

I got both but mostly use the condenser mic and it is an absolute game changer. If you want to explain something it is so noticeable in the eyes of your conference participants how good they can hear you. And it makes a huge difference if you finally feel like what you are saying is not painful for others to endure.
Check out this very lovely video series on how to pimp up your conferencing setup. Especially this episode about mics:

Edit: And this is the mic I can recommend using on Linux:

And: LVFS
Family plans are in my eyes. They log users more into the platform and makes it very difficult to switch. If you want to move away from Spotify, you now have to convince enough of the others to make it feasible.

I did not claim that it was one. I also was not even mad about recurring payments, to me the problematic change was that the data was now hosted on some other machine owned by the company who is producing the software (e.g. in theory single point of entry).

Edit: Damn someone beat me to it.
I get your frustrations and as a PinePhone owner myself I would not consider it anywhere near usable as a real Smartphone replacement.
However after installing Arch it is pretty snappy and has certainly sparked some new hope in me. I really recommend you to check it out.
For Signal there is (or will be) Axolotl [-1] which looks promising and when it comes to developer support both KDE and GNOME devs show some support for it. E.g. GNOME recently announced libadwaita [0]. Give it some time and check out the Arch release for PinePhone: [1].

So freaking what. Use decimals and you can easily convert anything into everything. And you don’t have to rely on those few cases where you can exactly divide.
6.8m = 680cm = 0.0068km, etc.
Who writes out prices in fractions?
Its even worse with baking. Scaling up units from recipes is really hard if you have fractions of different units like tee spoon, table spoon and cup and when ounces can both mean a volume and a weight. (“fl. is not always specified”) No thank you.
Also your examples are really poor, when the base systems keep changing in the same dimensions (e.g. length) there is not benefit at all, just confusion or reluctance to convert to other units because it would be too awkward.
Its funny how it is so important to have a wider range of temperatures whereas I most often hear Americans use ranges. And instead of saying "today temps will go up into the 70s" you just give the actual number, "it will go up to 23C", what is the problem with that? You could also say because a celsius degree is greater, the number matters much more and it is often not necessary to give a range like that. Ranges or not, it does not matter. A celsius is certainly small enough that decimals are not necessary for humans day-to-day.
What I also often hear from Americans is that the inch is such a perfect unit and "2.5cm" is so awkward but then I hear "6/8 of an inch" and similar units or the mixing of feet and inch and I just don't get it.

You pulled the “trigger a European” card. This is not why the US healthcare is astronomically high. The reason is: practically no meaningful regulation and thus free roaming oligopolies of a few providers with insane billing practices (which hospitals are covered, etc.). And much more...
"2x HDD SATA 2,0 TB Enterprise"
Which is too bad.
I am currently waiting for slightly better offerings (a few weeks ago when I found out there were slightly more attractive options) and then will pull the trigger.
I yet have to find anything that comes close to this bang-for-buck ratio.
