runarb··on Oil is near a price that hurts the economy
> Yeah you do. Compare the casualties and destruction in 19th century and 20th century wars.

Looking at Wikipedia's list of wars by death toll[0], it seems that people were capable of massive casualties and destruction without fossil fuels, too. Like the Taiping Rebellion in 1850–1864, with a death toll of 20–70 million. The Mongol invasions in 1206–1368, with a death range of 20–60 million, and the Three Kingdoms period in 184–280, with a death range of 34 million.

It would be interesting to know what ultimately happened to the bolts if they indeed were removed.

When I disassemble something, I do as I was taught in my mechanical class in high school, and always keep all parts I take of in the same box. If I am left with some extra bolts when finished, that would be a worrisome sign.

runarb··on Facebook must pay $100.000 to Norway each day for violating our right to privacy
Correct. From what I can read in the decision letter, Metas local Norwegian subsidiary, named "Facebook Norway AS", is being held collectively responsible for "fine of up to NOK 1 000 000 per day of non-compliance on Meta Platforms Ireland Limited and/or Facebook Norway AS" - https://www.datatilsynet.no/contentassets/36ad4a92100943439d...

Facebook Norway AS did, however, only have a revenue of about 6.6 million USD in 2022, with a profit of 3.6 million USD, according to https://www.proff.no/selskap/facebook-norway-as/oslo/reklame... . They have 27 employees. The revenue from Norway are however much bigger and was speculated to be 233 million USD in 2021: https://e24.no/naeringsliv/i/A3r1Mz/facebook-bokfoerte-bare-...

runarb··on Norway to fine Meta $98,500 a day over user privacy breach from 14 August
> Fines like this are a nice little tax write off, just another business expense.

The fines seem to be leveled at Meta's local company in Norway. As I understand it, fines are not deductible in Norway.

(I am not an accountant, and my company has never gotten a find, but looking up this in the accounting system I use, it seems it is not deductible: https://kontohjelp.fiken.no/as/medMoms/7799?sok=7799 ( in Norwegian)).

From what I can remember from other cases here in Norway, the daily fines will be increased if the regulatory body sees that they do not have any effect.

The goal here is compliance. So the regulators will first try guidance, then a formal warning, then daily fines, then increasing the fine, fine (local) directors personally, and finally dissolvent of Metas local company.

How do you feel about the recent spick in inflation? I have also been sitting on some cash for a year, and its buying power has definitely fallen. I find it now hard to see if prices will fall or wags will go up, so the cash I have will be of less relative worth.
