I've been saying for years: All buildings should be parking garages.

Because you can always just put a mini residential building inside a parking garage if you need tenants.

Need an office? Just put a mini office in the parking garage. It's perfect.

Parking garage construction is so clean and simple. Other buildings are too complex! From now on, I'll only build parking garages.

(Then I guess you have the opposite example of the residence without the parking garage! It's a great place to live, but there's nowhere to store my things and park my car!)

rubyfruit··on Ask HN: Why don't we solve aging?
I want to hold out hope that conscious is uploadable.

But I got myself to a point intellectually where I think that’s impossible.

But given The Hard Problem and what not, it would be great if one day someone just figured it out.

Like oh guys it was just ____ all along, and now they sell Death Insurance for the embodied (rich folk) or if you’re poor you’re just a mind in the cloud with something like a Heroku bill pooled in with other souls.

Like there’s a budget tier of the afterlife fml (fmd)

rubyfruit··on Ask HN: Why don't we solve aging?
You’re right that immediately if nobody died anymore we would have overpopulation and resource issues but I consider them extremely secondary issues to not existing.

Maybe even kinda fun.

If you couldn’t die war would be fun. It might even be fun to get blown up.

It would be a different thing entirely

rubyfruit··on Ask HN: Why don't we solve aging?
If we lived forever I could in theory endure thousands of years of mediocrity for the right cause.

It must be what it feels like to be religious, yet mortal, and not care.

rubyfruit··on Ask HN: Why don't we solve aging?
Not necessarily. I think death can be escaped by solving it with technology.

And maybe even space and time can be escaped too in some way.

Even using means I can imagine, the sun and earth are entirely controllable physical bodies that we will some day play with like toys.

Maybe I’m being overly naive, simplistic, lofty, or just human! Someone has to

rubyfruit··on Ask HN: Why don't we solve aging?
I joke all the time where are the Renters Lives Matter signs?

The closest thing to modern slavery employed en masse is the work:rent game with ever changing values and conditions that always keep assets just out of reach haha. It’s cruel

> inb4 the closest thing to modern slavery is literal [forced labor] we use newspeak guys

And I know.

But still, it would be interesting to at least see real solutions of the world so much as being earnestly attempted rather than the constant charade.

> Johnson has stated the aims of the company are to reduce the biological age of his organs to that of an 18-year-old

I once read that we could in theory produce things like synthetic organs, but something like a synthetic liver would be the size of a 50,000 sqft factory requiring a full staff of chemists, would need a refinery complete with boilers, smokestacks, chemical waste facilities, and so-on for each individual person.

Think of kidney like a dialysis machine, or a heart like an advanced blood pump, lungs like aerators, muscles, bones - we can reverse-engineer most of it.

But there are still many mysteries in blood production, cellular function, digestion, hormones, genetics, and consciousness, to name a few areas.

It's humbling, we are at the very earliest stages of the biological sciences. But it's something nanotech and funding could chip away significantly at IMO in our lifetime, potentially solving many of the organ-related issues like diabetes, cirrhosis, cancer, and other things.

> if aging didn't seem just natural and the idea of a defeating it didn't seem a bit crazy

I can't imagine having this mentality

Of course aging is something we will solve - probably within the next 1000 years.

We will look back on these times like before humans wore clothes and had language.

Not lost on me that you had your name scrubbed from comments, the "offending" account banned, all under the guise of "harassment", and then you come back and solicit more trouble - as if you can't get enough.

Hahah.

I forgot you existed, Neil. And don't be too hard on yourself - job market is cooked. The time to build your legacy is now.

This comment is so specific I know what you’re talking about and that you’re wrong about at least 2 details.

Whether you made it up or are confusing multiple people idk

Dang isn’t a great person, no mod is. Censorship is evil and we’re still in the dark ages.

In the future they will say in 2026 people were something like illiterate - nobody cared about solving death or aging (nobody is even working on it) and the authority of our day was way more into censoring ideas and collecting rent.

You’re basically a Savonarola fanboy

rubyfruit··on Did they ghost you?
> there is nothing stopping you publishing it as a signal to others

Well, online moderation can stop you.

Glassdoor seems more about keeping things "squeaky clean" rather than "transparency" ;)

I don't think candidates (or customers for that matter) have much of a voice anymore online.

Everyone who's popular on social media who could reach huge audiences is already working for the brands.

"clean code" is one of my favorite myths.

Especially when the guy so into code cleanliness can barely dress himself, can't design well, and so-on.

A lot more parallels between visual design / art and people who structure code nicely in files and use the "latest syntax" (omg so clean)

> Magnesium sulfate is absorbed less effectively

Drinking the same Epsom salt in water that you soak in has the same effect as soaking in hot or cold water with it, and it's also the same effect as taking magnesium supplements sold over the counter.

You can try it yourself - totally safe. You already eat magnesium all the time.

Whatever you're doing with your comment, I'm not convinced.

rubyfruit··on Does creatine make you smarter?
Magnesium? Its widely known that magnesium is used by the body lol

What they “doubt” is that it can be absorbed through the skin.

But anyone who takes magnesium tablets can tell you the effect is the same.

And it is studied btw - problem is there are countless on both sides.

rubyfruit··on Does creatine make you smarter?
The people who deny that Epsom salt has any effect say the same thing. They say it’s only the hot water relaxing your muscles not the Epsom salt.

But they fail to account for ice baths with Epsom.

Similarly you fail to account for anyone who takes creatine with any other food or beverage.

So I don’t love such theories.

rubyfruit··on Does creatine make you smarter?
People have no idea how successful big pharma’s info campaign has been since what I’m increasingly calling the real Web 3.0 (post-influencer social media and arrival of big corporate narratives).

According to Reddit, Epsom salt has no effect (doesn’t absorb) - you’re wasting your time by using it. They’ll cite all sorts of real, funded studies that agree and yet always the comment section is filled with anecdotal evidence of the contrary - to which a typical response is “hot water in general is soothing” (ignoring efficacy of magnesium sulfate in ice baths).

I digress - creatine is a similar situation. All this confusion at best. It’s also not unlike the health effects of cannabis just prior to going effectively legal - it either causes or cures cancer, or something? We need more research! That’s the real problem!

Any time you see this sort of narrative it’s corporate politics and influence at play.

By virtue of how hard it is to get any information on creatine, it probably threatens some market or vertical at least (whether or not it “works”). Like A. muscaria mushroom or sassafras, you’ll have to do your own research to really know.
